Bowdoin 2012-2013: Do the Boys earn the respect we think they deserve?

Re: Bowdoin 2012-2013: Do the Boys earn the respect we think they deserve?

The PB's played pretty poorly this afternoon against Conn College (too many needless penalties taken). It is only due to CC being in 9th place in the NESCAC standings, and needing 2 pts to make the conference tournament, that they escaped with a 2-1 OT win. They needto take care of business on Monday against Trinity. If they lose Monday and don't win the conference tournament I think it'll be a long shot for a pool C bid.
NESCAC is a one bid league. Every Eastern Pool A team, with the exception of Norwich (who is pretty well a lock) is in a one and done situation starting next weekend.

I still don't think Oswego is out should they lose. So long as Hobart doesn't win out, I don't see Hobart jumping Oswego with a large factor being Oswego's head to head victory.

So long as Bowdoin, Adrian and Norwich win their league AQ's, what team is going to jump Oswego for the third Pool C slot? I'll give you Utica and the Eau Claire/SNC potential loser in the NCHA getting in.

Maybe Babson? But I just don't see that one happening.

Maybe I'm missing something but I don't think NU is a lock with the 5 Wins that do not count

Whike I dont have exaxcts in front of me....a quick look looks like Hobart dominates ranked and common opponents and sos...that head to head will mean squat.... even Amherst would look a little better unless they rank Geneseo and maybe another SUNYAC team (not happening)

I think Oswego losing has really helped solidify Norwich's chances.

Norwich is pretty darn close to a lock if they aren't already.

I know there's some practical and principled reason why the NCAA won't expand the field to 16, but this year's ECAC-W is a pretty good reason to give it another look. There's substantial irony surrounding the idea that ECAC-W is not conference enough to warrant an auto bid but Hobart and Utica looking like locks for Pool C, ECAC-W will likely be just one of two conferences with two teams in the field.

The "principled" reasons is that D3 treats all men's sports alike in all respects, even those that have a relatively small number of teams and high barriers to entry!!

I guess no coverage of the Bowdoin-Trinity game from Brooks School in No Andover?

The size of the field is strictly limited to a ratio of 1:6.5 in all sports

Oswego wins H2H, Win %, and COP (Oswego is 13-2 vs Hobart 9-2-1) against Hobart as of today. Certainly not a clear cut case for Hobart over Oz.

COP = Utica, Elmira, Cortland, Geneseo, Hamilton, Buff State, Potsdam, and Brockport. Hobarts tie against Brockport is the deciding factor in Oswego's favor.

Great wins today by both the men and women today, sweeping the NECAC Championships. Both of these teams have what it takes to compete at NCAAs. GO POLAR BEARS!

I think it's called the NESCAC. First period by the Bears yesterday against Middlebury was d3 hockey at its best. Fantastic intensity that put the Panthers in a hole that they could not get out of. Best of luck to the PB teams in the NCAA's. Congrats to the Eph's on a solid game today in the final. They too got put in an early hole, but didn't allow it to get any deeper.

Re: Bowdoin 2012-2013: Do the Boys earn the respect we think they deserve?

Third time is the charm?

Bowdoin played well, putting up 56 shots, but they will need to be better, especially defensively to get to Lake Placid. I expect Fenkell to be in net in Utica, and hopefully not the Trinity version. A win is a win is a win this time of the year but they won't be playing UMD this weekend. Hopefully the boys will be ready to go! Go U Bears!

I have the feeling they will have a lot of new fans listening throughout the Northeast! (for Saturday night anyway)

Re: Bowdoin 2012-2013: Do the Boys earn the respect we think they deserve?

Couple interesting contrasts coming into the game. Utica enters having played just one game in the last twenty days (a home loss to Manhattanville) while Bowdoin will be playing its fourth elimination game in eight days. Utica makes its first tournament appearance while the Bowdoin seniors will be playing their fifth NCAA game (with home wins over Mass-Dartmouth and Neumann but two losses at Oswego).

Re: Bowdoin 2012-2013: Do the Boys earn the respect we think they deserve?

A few stats for the OCD out there..through tonights game Bowdoin has put 1032 SOG this season for an average of 36.8 SOG per game and they have scored one goal for every 8.53 shots on net...how does Utica compare?

Re: Bowdoin 2012-2013: Do the Boys earn the respect we think they deserve?

Utica is big, strong, fast and talented and they are well coached. They will be without a doubt the best team Bowdoin has played all year and they are playing at the Aud which is an incredibly tough barn to play in. Fenkell will need to be at his best to give the Bears a shot to win.
