Bowdoin 2012-2013: Do the Boys earn the respect we think they deserve?

Utica is big, strong, fast and talented and they are well coached. They will be without a doubt the best team Bowdoin has played all year and they are playing at the Aud which is an incredibly tough barn to play in. Fenkell will need to be at his best to give the Bears a shot to win.

Agreed. I'll be rooting for the bears in that game, their posters are more cordial.
;)

No doubt about it. The upside of little coherence crossover during the regular season is that we don't know that Bowdoin isn't the best team Utica will see all year. This has the potential to be a great game in which we will learn about both teams. Everyone will need to be on their A game.

Re: Bowdoin 2012-2013: Do the Boys earn the respect we think they deserve?

Correct polarbearfan, we don't really know how Bowdoin would stack up against some of Utica's tougher opponents, Oswego, Hobart, Neumann and Manhattanville. And we also really don't know if either team will play at their best or if one will play like Oswego did when they played at the Aud in January. I guess I am a little leery of the Polar Bears because I thought they were going to be much better when they played Oswego in 2010 and 2011. This team looks better, at least on the computer, than those teams did but Utica is also coming off a frustrating shutout so they might just be too much. In any event we know that whomever wins the game will be a first time visitor to Lake Placid which is a plus.

You think you are aggravated by a lot of the posts by "Utica fans?" Think how I feel!

You guys have a couple of "notorious" fans - so do we. (One in particular)

It's only fourteen days and when was the shutout ??? Geesh

Re: Bowdoin 2012-2013: Do the Boys earn the respect we think they deserve?

I'm not sure it's been mentioned here recently but Terry Meagher is closing in on 500 wins after notching win number 498 last night. Sure would be cool to see him win his 500th... and 501st this year!:D

Wasn't he All American at Boston University too ??

Re: Bowdoin 2012-2013: Do the Boys earn the respect we think they deserve?

He has quite the hockey resume for sure.
He was also an assistant at Clarkson (he's the link to get from Jack Parker to Jerry York in 2 jumps) when they lost to the Back Door Badgers a long time ago. So that's a negative when it comes to playoff success.

What's your point? Is it that he doesn't have "quite the hockey resume"? Or is it that he's not perfect? Or that he can lose in the playoffs? If it's the playoffs, or the NCAA tournament...we already know that!

I think he has a great resume. He just needs a ring to cement the legacy.

Re: Bowdoin 2012-2013: Do the Boys earn the respect we think they deserve?

Over the years I have been to many Bowdoin games, going back to my days as a Cadet. So for that reason I will cheer for the Polar Bears.

Being that my "Bears" aren't in the tourney, should I look north and root for the "Polar Bears"? I like this team, I'm tellin' ya....look out for them.

It kind of goes this way " There are Utica hockey fans, then there are hockey fans that are not fans of Utica" I am in the latter, go Polar Bears!!

Terry Meagher was a very good player on those great BU teams of the 1970s, and captained the 1976 team that won the ECAC title over Brown but lost to Brown in the consolation game of the NCAA tournament. Terry didn't play in the latter game as he had been thrown out of the semifinal against the U of Minnesota. Terry was never an All-American. His brother Rick, however, was a three-time All-American at BU, and generally played on a line with Mike Eruzione, the famed captain of the 1980 US Olympic team. For a report on Meagher's ejection in the 1976 NCAA semifinal, see below:
