Bottom-Feeders Bracket; Road to "FutileFour" team selection process

Re: Bottom-Feeders Bracket; Road to "FutileFour" team selection process

Last16 was removed from the FARTS criteria a few years back. Plus, losing to club teams and getting shut out by D-III colleges is practically an autobid.

Even we beat all the club teams we played and scored a goal on Adrian.

You are now an honorary member of the BFB selection committee.

ZooMass can't be happy. Spared having to play in their conference tourney, two teams who were forced into it have played their way past the Minutemen, with one of them, Maine, actually slotted to play in this great championship.

Here's a question for you...can a team get an auto bid to both the NCAA tournament and the Futile Four? Both Canisius and bubble team Mercyhurst are still alive in the AHA playoffs, so at least in theory either one could get an autobid.

If Canisius were to win the AHA autobid, I believe that would move them out of this tournament.

Actually, Canisius no longer qualifies for this tournament, as per the Bowling Green rule.

Re: Bottom-Feeders Bracket; Road to "FutileFour" team selection process

The BFB/F4 Executive Bored (pun intended) has just completed their semi-annual review of tournament qualifications, and makes the following changes, effective immediately.

The changes affect the so-called "Atlantic Hockey Rule" (no team can qualify for BFB if they finish above the mid-point in their conference, regardless of how weak their conference may be), and the "Bowling Green Rule" (no team can qualify for BFB if they advance to the semi-finals of their conference tournament, regardless of how bad their season was). These two exemptions have morphed in to a set of three guidelines:

1. No team that finished the regular season in the top THIRD of their conference standings can qualify for BFB under ANY circumstances.
2. No team that finished the regular season in the top HALF of their conference standings AND advances to the semi-finals in their conference tournament can qualify for BFB.
3. No team that advances to the championship game of their conference tournament can quality for BFB.

Under these guidelines, Canisius (who finished 7th in AHA) is still eligible for BFB...but if they advance to the finals of the AHA tourney, they'd become ineligible. There is no way possible a team can qualify for BOTH the BFB and that other tournament.

Ah, there is that.

I'm livid about this. Absolutely livid.

Also, it seems like I'm not the only one: http://www.uscho.com/2013/03/19/massachusetts-assistant-quesnelle-departs-after-nine-seasons/

And to the Penn State fan, you have to be kidding me if you don't think Penn State belongs in this tournament.

Here are the final FARTS. Brackets and seeding will be delayed 48 hours in order to make travel arrangements more difficult.

1. Alabama-Huntsville
2. Sacred Heart (AHA Auto-bid)
3. Army
4. Bentley
5. Alaska-Anchorage (WCHA Auto-bid)
6. American International
7. Bemidji State
8. Northeastern (HE Auto-bid)
9. RIT
10. Clarkson
11. Harvard (ECAC Auto-bid)
12. Penn State
13. Princeton
14. Michigan State (CCHA Auto-bid)
15. Maine
16. Vermont
****just missed****
17. UMass
18. Michigan Tech

Canisius works themselves out the BFB allowing Vermont and UMass to slip back in to consideration. For those UMass fans who may still be bitter about missing the field, you might be interested to know that it was VERY close. The final consideration came down to Vermont losing 2 of the 3 games they played h2h with UMass.

Simple: all games played at the Benton H. Wilcoxcon Ice Complex in Huntsville, Alabama, the most expensive airport to travel to/from in the United States. We're farthest away from everyone on the list except Anchorage, and we're worse than Anchorage.

How do we play this out? Monte Carlo simulations via KRACH? Mumbletypeg?

I will do everything in my power to make sure this event is well attended, advertised and publicized. I will also do my best to ensure that the quality of the ice for this tournament is superb. This is the best way I can think of to get revenge on the committee.

You may try, but the comittee has bred a special type of ice eating termite for just such an occasion.
