Bottom Feeders Bracket/Futile Four 2010

Re: Bottom Feeders Bracket/Futile Four 2010

The Kenner Dome Welcoming Committee has decided that even though we have a poorer building and a more remote location, the George Gipp Ice Arena is equally inaccessible, has horrendous ice and is also subject to rockslides. Therefore, we are withdrawing our bid for the 2010 Bottom Feeders Bracket Midwest Regional - but expect to see a much stronger bid for the Kenner Dome next year!

Re: Bottom Feeders Bracket/Futile Four 2010

The welcoming committee of the St. Lawrence Center Mall Arena is happy to hear we have received the preliminary nod to host the NE regional for the Futile Four. We promise you will not be disappointed with the selection, and will strive to blow up every possible good thing that could happen for the regional.

Knowing this, we may have to devise a plan to "accidentally" run over a puck or 3 with our Zamboni, rendering it useless just before the regional, forcing us to resurface by hose and shovel, again. Pictures will be posted in 2 weeks, as the pictures that we attempted to take yesterday broke the camera (we aren't kidding, although it just lost power supply.)

Re: Bottom Feeders Bracket/Futile Four 2010

Considering that it's the only bridge that links the "island" part of the Keweenaw Peninsula (where the Gipp is) with the rest of humanity, it should be considered significant.

Also, I think that concession stand may have to be closed for the event. On the other hand (*bright idea*) I imagine it could serve a nasty pre-game meal. You know, the kind that will get teams puking on the bench. ;) :D
F2B&G, my sentiments exactly.

The George Gipp Ice Arena Welcoming Committee thanks you for your kindness.

A few thoughts for the "catering service" - cold cardboar...er, 'pizza' from the MUB (make sure it's a few days old too), burnt GFS (or similar generic) popcorn, and room-temperature milk.

The way I see it, you either make them risk food poisoning, or just don't serve anything. ;) As the committee chair, it's your call.

They actually don't have popcorn...
They do, however, have mini pizzas & hot dogs. I'm sure something could be done with that.
Oh, and hard as a freaking rock candy.
I was actually thinking Little Caesars pizza that's a week or so old, like they like to serve at Calumet High School.

The way I see it, it's got to be stale and greasy for maximum stomach churn, so the Sneezers would work. Just leave it sitting out on the concession counter and shut everything else down.

You're not going to serve spoiled pasties, poorly-smoked fish and flat beer?

Re: Bottom Feeders Bracket/Futile Four 2010

I think you should serve whatever you find at the bottom of Schmitt's Corner's deep fryer.

For those not familiar with the vernacular of the UP a "pastie" (PASS-tee) is a sort of meat pie (kind of like a camp stove version of a 'Hot Pocket') ... not to be confused with a "pastie" (PASTE-ee) like you would see covering the 'naughty parts' in a old time burlesque show.

I remember a sense of wonder and confusion during my first visit UP. I was 10 or 11 and just old enough to know what pasties (PASTE-ees) were, and what they were covering. I was in puzzled awe to see them being openly advertised on nearly every storefront.

They are also pretty common in England. Being able to get them for 2 pounds when the dollar sucked made my study abroad experience much better. :D

I have no reference of how much 2 pounds is, but you can get them 3 for $5 in Ironwood, MI, at a bakery place right on the main road. That is the cheapest I've found them

At the time 2 pounds = $4. It is less now, I think. Considering everything in England cost the same as everything here (example - if a soda here is $1.50, its 1.50 pounds there) and the exchange rate was double, being able to eat for 2 pounds was a godsend.

Was this pre-Euro, or do they still use pounds pretty regularly?

Re: Bottom Feeders Bracket/Futile Four 2010

"Brackets look good, except we are concerned that Clarkson's close proximity to Massena might mean somebody could attend."

Apparently, you haven't watched much Clarkson hockey this year! I think keeping them in Massena may actually decrease interest.

Actually, CCT had their arena 2/3 full with the students on break for an afternoon game. Not bad for a team that's had a horrible season.

England still uses the pound. I was there in fall of 2007.

They are in the EU but have so far refused to adopt the Euro as their currency.
