Chuck Murray coined the acronym MBPBEGAM for Make Believe Phony Baloney Everyone Gets A Medal round a few years ago, to which HEA responded by eliminating the round this season (hence, UVM, Mack, and Yukon are done after next weekend). The freed up weekend was used to spread out the regular season.

Cool. Yes, I'd like to see ECAC, AH, NCHC, and Big7 totally leave some of the worst out of their playoffs!

Since these are the “Top” 4 teams, this should give them as much travel distance as possible.
Though it’s not really fair that the other leagues who let everyone in be denied the top seeds. Of course it doesn’t matter what I think...

No, we send UAA south and Merrimack west.

And you are correct. If SLU(t) had been denied the playoffs, they'd be a top 4 seed.

Just hope they don't make the semis. We've seen a 12 seed do it before; I believe they have something to do with toothpaste.

Update from Odessa:

We posted a handful of fliers around the campus of The University of Texas of the Permian Basin (UTPB) on Friday, seeking individuals with officiating experience with the stipulation that the maximum qualifications were no more than two years of IM league. We did not specify the sport, so therefore four bouncyball refs have been hired, and they will officiate the Odessa regional BFB games according to roundball rules. They will be paid for their efforts with a case of Natty Ice tall boys.

Traveling violations for everyone!

Snively, out of Mt Washington, I'm hearing that Marty the cat doesn't really care what players do, be it spearing, slew footing, etc... as long as he gets his favorite cat food and scratches behind the ears.

All need to remember that last year when Marty did not get his favorite cat food late in the game, he grabbed the puck and hid it in a snowbank. Game over.

No question, anticipation is increasing for the tournament to begin. The Futile Four is just around the corner!

I do have a question for John J. MacInnes. With the plethora of penalties caused by "illegals" at the border, have there been any plans made for skating 2 on 2, 1 on 1 or just letting the goalies duke it out for a win?

The latest word from tournament officials is that standard player numbers must be maintained. That will demand some strategy from coaches once the teams arrive at the regional. I can tell you that the benches have yet to be built outside the playing surface, so where they are placed (along with the penalty box/border detainment area) will have an impact on that issue.

If Marty shows up in Point Roberts, I'd venture a guess that he'd be more interested in gorging himself on sockeye salmon than worrying about the rink anyway.

Guy Fieri's people called; not only is he serving gut rot to the Futile Four teams, he's agreed to do a "Between the Glass" bit for the Futile Four team. No actual knowledge of hockey known, but rumor has it he's better than Pierre McGuire.

Tech is in for sure, and queue the Tears of Unfathomable Sadness. However, SLU may be out if they win tonight; they are in a 1-1 series with Darmouth.

Not to challenge the rankings, but I believe Miami State was the Nacho regular season "winner" based on tiebreakers, so wouldn't they be the Nacho AQ instead of Omaha?
