Re: Boston Universtiy 2011-2012 Part IV: Dont stop fighting til the fight is done!

Even just focusing on irishfan's post...Parker simply retiring still wouldn't be another blemish. At least not in my opinion. Something else would have to come up.

There has been speculation/rumors/etc/takeitasyouwill that Parker was retiring at the end of the season even before any of this came out. This may be hokydad's "old news" comment?

1. Who deserves more credit for the team being #6 in the PWR despite all this? Parker or players?

In a strictly team performance basis, I think this year is one of Parker's better seaons in memory. Of course the players have to execute. It also helps that there are not a lot of good teams this year. In a normal year this may be a lower PWR team.

2. Who deserves more blame for not policing guys like Nicastro/Trivino? Players or Parker?

School/AD/Coach creating a culture, more than anything else, this stuff can happen at any school, it is just minimizing the chances. Aside from maybe a senior captain, I think it is difficult to have 18-22 year olds police other 18-22 year olds effectively.

Re: Boston Universtiy 2011-2012 Part IV: Dont stop fighting til the fight is done!

Yes, that's normal. Mine stinks to high heaven. They get gassy because they suck in a lot of air because of their pudgy faces. Just be glad it's not eating its own feces... had to bring mine to the vet after it got worms from doing that. Very high maintenance. Probably should have gotten a dog instead.
Thanks for the answer to a serious question. I took him because he was going to be put down and I love dogs.

No problem, I rescued mine as well. They found him abandoned on Comm Ave tied to a parking meter. His name is Mike.

Anyway, here's a couple questions for you guys...

1. Who deserves more credit for the team being #6 in the PWR despite all this? Parker or players?
2. Who deserves more blame for not policing guys like Nicastro/Trivino? Players or Parker?

Credit 50/50 to both jack and the players for the play on the ice.

Blame for lack of policing? Tough one. Parker is obviously not going to be at ts pub or in the dorms with them so I would say the players themselves. Parker has kicked multiple guys off the team for bad behavior and you would think that would be a pretty strong message that somehow subsequent offenders did not get. I guess in the bigger picture though, the part where the coaching staff takes some blame is in the screening of the character of the recruits.

While I do think that higher quality guys coming in wouldn't find themselves in these situations perhaps, it's more likely that the culture that's somehow being propagated here is the real issue. It was clear in Trivino's case that Parker wanted to help him and maybe didn't understand how much his intervention was needed ultimately. This time around it looks like Nicastro flew under the radar (enough) and got away with this behavior, and maybe didn't think something like this would ever happen. Can't do much but speculate as the facts are limited to the public.

I just don't think players can police themselves and maybe the assistant coaches have to monitor the players more and have more communication with the captain and assistant captains regarding players' everyday routines and what's going on day to day to prevent future incidents. It's more work for the coaching staff to babysit the team but can BU afford anymore incidents like this?

Re: Boston Universtiy 2011-2012 Part IV: Dont stop fighting til the fight is done!

Is it not easier for teammates to police other teammates on weekends after games than it would be for Jack Parker to do so?

Re: Boston Universtiy 2011-2012 Part IV: Dont stop fighting til the fight is done!

If Parker was going to retire, and knew so long ago, I feel that the successor would already be selected (though not publicized). If I heard Parker was retiring and Quinn was coming back, that would be anything but a blemish in my eyes:D

So, what should the new thread title be?

"Help Wanted"?
"Waiting for the Next Shoe to Drop"?
"Hoky Help Us"?

Re: Boston Universtiy 2011-2012 Part IV: Dont stop fighting til the fight is done!

I'm sick of hearing of this "culture" crap. Go to the FOH room at Maine where the Maine players come out after the games. You'll see tons of girls and other fans just ogling the players telling them how great they are, even during rough times. I mean every team in Hockey East besides BC and UMass, the hockey team is the flagship sport on campus. Kids get to hook up with girls on recruiting visits. All schools in HE have "puck bunnies." Obviously, IF the allegations are true, Trivino and Nicastro decided to take inappropriate liberties with girls who did not like them as much as they liked the girls.

again, this goes back to the points i've been making to myself for the past couple days, and back in mid-dec.

:D

I considered "When's Visiting Day" but felt it was in bad taste.

that's not in bad taste. "do they have conjugal visits here" would have been in poor form.

Re: Boston Universtiy 2011-2012 Part IV: Dont stop fighting til the fight is done!

Is there anything concrete out there that suggests that this was anything but a one time occurrence for Nicastro?

Re: Boston Universtiy 2011-2012 Part IV: Dont stop fighting til the fight is done!

Will the last one out please turn off the lights?
We finally found a way to beat BC in something!
Look out below.

by concrete do you mean police record?

i believe the freep folks interviewed residents who proclaimed nicastro was one of the worst offender post-trivino.
there was the mystery parent on the bhb who told a story about his daughter at t's.

unfortunately the school has yet to hire me to the position of "vp of doing the right thing here" so someone else needs to weed through this to mix the concrete.
