Boston Universtiy 2011-2012 Part IV: Dont stop fighting til the fight is done!

6th in pwr.....

And here is another eric beef with the PWR:

Prior to the weekend we were ahead of Lowell in the PWR. Then we split with them, and now we are behind in the PWR. Their win over us on sat should not carry more weight than our win over them on Fri.

No mathematical explanations necessary.

mookie is the resident expert but seems like you are forgetting it isn't only about the 2 teams, it involves what the other teams are doing too

Re: Boston Universtiy 2011-2012 Part IV: Dont stop fighting til the fight is done!

...the player saw the hit was coming, and turned his back. Seems like that is the nature of the game, and seeing how that penalty is called, it didn't surprise me to see him turn into the boards and take that hit, then go down. Not saying it was a clean hit, but if he doesn't turn his back, its shoulder to shoulder. I'll have to check out the replay though.

Everything you say is true. They showed it two or three times on NESN. Of course, what you lose when you see it in slow motion is the reaction time. CJ commented then whenever you can see BOTH numbers and the name on the jersey you CAN'T hit him. But even in real-time I would have to say that he had "time" to avoid it. The real point is, there was NO NEED FOR IT!!! When are these guys going to learn? They were totally dominating the game at that point and on the verge of taking the lead and the penalty changed the entire game. Lowell got momentum and kept it for another period and a half before BU got it back, and then it was too late.

Regarding the "atmosphere" (which I have commented about several times), it's ironic to note that they have not yet clinched home ice. Maybe they shouldn't. Seriously. Look at their record at home. I have watched visiting team after visiting team come in here and not only are they not intimidated, they seem to relish it. They're going to end up playing one of these teams anyway (BC, Merrimack, Lowell or Maine), because they will probably finish third or fourth (so they'll get the six or five seed) so what's the difference? They seem to play with more of a chip on their shoulder on the road. At home they always start slow ( although they had a good first shift last night but then they fell asleep for the rest of the period). If they get to the Garden they're in the NCAAs anyway (in fact, to plummet all the way to below 16 in the PWR would be the biggest collapse in history). It wouldn't bother me one bit to see them go on the road. They can win a series against any of these teams except BC (sorry, I just don't see them beating BC two out of three).

What are you talking about? It doesn't "carry more weight." Did you forget that Lowell WON THE SEASON SERIES against us? They took TWO out of THREE games. So now we're resorting to complaining about the PWR? Here's a concept for you...if you WIN, the PWR takes care of itself? Amazing, huh?

Re: Boston Universtiy 2011-2012 Part IV: Dont stop fighting til the fight is done!

I think the loss of Coyle and Trivino is finally starting to sink in. Losing 3 of your last 4 and only scoring more than 2 goals three times in your last 8 games isn't a good sign heading into tourney season.

No I fully understand the bigger picture, involving other teams, the whole mathematics behind it... and I know the sat game technically does not "count more". That does not mean that I'm not allowed to be annoyed by it when, at a glance, I notice something like that. You guys would be annoyed too if Merrimack had managed to pull out the game on Saturday night, and they jumped ahead of you in the PWR.

Maybe, but I don't mind rooting for this group. What remains are hard working kids that want to win. Take that over prima donnas any day. You'll never make a video of highlight reel goals for Santana, but the kid works as hard as any player I've watched here.

I say this every year. PWR does not really even exist. It is there on Selection Sunday and that is it. Looking at it now (using current results through the mathematics of it) and noting changes from day to day results and then complaining about the movement compared to the results is absolutely foolish. Changes in RPI by .0001 can switch comparisons and move things around. It's going to change again. Who cares? You're looking at something that is meant for 1 day out of the year, and you're looking at it on the wrong day.

Seriously...

I'd add in that Kieran Millan has looked especially uninspiring in most of those games doesn't help either, but what you say is true. It's not like this team hasn't generated the chances, it's the finishing (Trivino) that they're missing.

This is all of course very true. Unfortunately most of us can't help ourselves from looking at it every week!

So any thoughts on who are flight risks after this year? Am guessing Chiasson, Clendening and maybe Nieto have to be considered possibilities?

Jack's happy!

“When you attempt 44 shots in the third period and don’t win, that’s a testament to the other team bending and not breaking,” said BU head coach Jack Parker. “I loved my team tonight.”

They'll finish 3-1. 2-1-1 at worst. I like this team. And they are indeed a team.

Last night? **** happens.

Really dude? Enjoy the season. We have all summer to talk about flight risks.

Re: Boston Universtiy 2011-2012 Part IV: Dont stop fighting til the fight is done!

I certainly see Parker's point. With the exception of a few plays BU essentially controlled the game. I certainly can see why he'd be happy witht them.

For the most part that was my reaction to last night's game too. We made some mistakes, but the biggest problem was Carr was really really good. It happens

I can't see BU playing BC or UML in the QFs. In fact, I think BU finishes in 3rd (at worst) and avoids Maine/Merrimack too. If BU finishes in 3rd and somehow loses the QF series, I think they'll still make the tourney.

I don't understand this. I forget what it was going into the weekend, but weren't BU and UML fairly close in the PWR? Merrimack wasn't close to BC.

Minimum 2-0-2...book it.

Re: Boston Universtiy 2011-2012 Part IV: Dont stop fighting til the fight is done!

BU has a great schedule here on out. Good a time as ever to go on a run and gain some momentum. Finish those opportunities.

You guys are overanalyzing my comment about the pairwise... we were ahead of them in the pairwise going into the weekend, then win one and lose one (so finish equal on the weekend) and after the weekend we are behind them in the pairwise... and i find that annoying thats all.

Again, I understand the pwr system etc... but that does not mean i can't be annoyed by it.

I didn't intend to comapre how far apart BU/Lowell vs BC/MC were... just using that example to illustrate how you guys would be annoyed too if it happened.

Re: Boston Universtiy 2011-2012 Part IV: Dont stop fighting til the fight is done!

But what I'm saying is you're not using a realistic example because Merrimack splitting with BC would not have vaulted them all the way ahead of BC. Being completely honest, if BC and MC were tied in the PWR, and a split vaulted MC ahead of BC...I really wouldn't be "annoyed" because there are so many other factors in play outside of the actual split between the two teams. I've just come to accept that. Now, I don't pay close enough attention to the PWR to know the impact of each result or each future result. I just look at it at the end of each night and hope my team won their game...
