Boston University vs Boston College 11/30 and 12/1

Re: Boston University vs Boston College 11/30 and 12/1

I don't think a single BU fan left before the final buzzer. Actually the BU fans seemed to be calling out BC fans for leaving. Also why was BU singing O Canada? That was weird.

Game at BU:

are there boxes all the way around HAA so that there are no open areas to the concourse? I've heard its a jazzed up Tsongas and everyone has good things to say about it but if there are luxury boxes all around so that the concourse is closed in so you can't see the ice from the concourse , well, give me Tsongas, no offense intended, just my preference

Re: Boston University vs Boston College 11/30 and 12/1

And speaking of bad fans, why don't the fanboys wear face paint anymore? Was there a shortage or did the task force mandate it couldn't be worn anymore so girls could more easily identify their attackers?

I see that the new thing with the superfanboys is that they are now wearing BC Snuggies to games. I saw one at BU on Friday and there was a horde of them on Saturday. If BU fans were wearing them you would be all on top of this, a new low.

I think there is standing room on the ends or at least one of them? That said, Tsongas is easily my favorite arena to watch a game at in the league, though I think they've closed off a lot of the concourse with boxes there too?

Re: Boston University vs Boston College 11/30 and 12/1

Gentry, I think the Snuggie was a security thing for those few BC fans underneath said Snuggie this weekend. Haven't seen them before against any other teams. They must have thought it would take too long to get through a Snuggie and would make it less likely for them to be a sexual assault victim with the BU hockey team in attendance. Not a bad strategy since you can't get pepper spray or any other weapons through the gates of either rink.

In other news, I hear the Terriers have struck a deal with Speedo to become the official sponsor of BU hockey. This money from the sponsorship will allow BU to upgrade their sonar equipment and if there is any left over money they will look into buying new periscopes for the players as well.

you need a pass to enter one end in Tsongas, members only but it's still open to the arena . I had passes for the BC game and was in there, they did a nice job. My favorite arena by far as well, at least until i see HAA

Not quite all the way around, but pretty close. The light blue areas on this map are the only places you can look through from the concourse to the rink. Also the back of 118 is one large standing area, but they normally rope that off and rent it out as a group area, as it can fit more people than any luxury box.

oh ok, i see that. Do people generally stand in those places and watch while they have a cold beer ?:D

Re: Boston University vs Boston College 11/30 and 12/1

I was there. Didn't really notice the crowd because I was too busy watching the game.

Same here. And at the end of the game, I certainly didn't hear the obnoxious fanboys chanting anything. Even if they were, you couldn't hear them due to the noise being made for York. I'd imagine the shot of the fanboys during the 3rd period and as the buzzer sounded was eerily similar to that famous photo of them crying after BC smoked them in Worcester a few years back.

Congrats, although I did see a few rats scurrying for the exits ;)

I guess I don't understand calling out some opposing fans for leaving "early" when your team just got pasted.

Sad to say we didn't live up to the best of the teddy bear toss events...

This is how to do a Teddy Bear Toss... something to strive for next year!

Sometimes yeah... its nice to be able to meet up with someone and watch the game for a bit if they are in different seats from you. Really though, there is not enough of the open space like that. IMO Agganis would be much improved if there was one or two less boxs in each corner of the arena to create just a little bit more open space for that.

HAA isn't the best place to watch a game from the concourse, but there's definitely areas to do so. The reason I tend to like HAA over Tsongas is the pitch of the seating at Tsongas takes it very far backwards and I've found sitting towards the top of a section that I'm fairly far away from the action, where Agganis has a steeper pitch so you're higher, but closer. That said, I had almost center ice seats in the bleachers at Conte the other night and the view was excellent, great place to watch a game, if it had a chairback, it'd be ideal.

Re: Boston University vs Boston College 11/30 and 12/1

Its pretty obvious that the refs gave Jerry his win on TV in front of the home crowd and that's cool. Given the quality of
HE refs nowadays I'm not too surprised although one wonders if Coach York, a class act by all accounts, wouldn't have preferred to win the game fair and square instead of getting like 20 5 on 3 situations and blatant trips being called diving.

Curious to see if the team goes in the tank @ Providence in order for York to break the record at home. I mean, it wouldn't be the first time a BC sports team threw a game...;)

Anyway, happy about BU's play. Lots of effort, good goaltending, and some offensive spark. Looking forward to seeing BC again come Beanpot or HE tourney time. There is room for improvement however, such as:

1) Can any of them hit the open net with regularity? I feel sorry for Rodrigues girlfriend as she must have a sore belly button and I'll leave it at that. Same for Privatera, who had both sides of the net wide open and Milner dead to rights but missed the net by 10 feet even though he was in closer than the faceoff circle.

2) Spent too much of the game flat on the ice. Need to pick up the hitting, especially after refs put the game out of reach. If you're going to get penalties, might as well earn them.

yes, you could definitely notice the steeper pitch at HAA in the pic Adam posted. I don't know why BC hasn't replaced the embarrassing God awful benches. Oh, wait, maybe i do:o. still i dont think it can be that much $$ for that though it may shrink the capacity somewhat. Maybe with the new AD and these other projects going on they'll loosen the purse strings but i'm not holding my breath waiting for it but it would be a great upgrade IMO

Have you really never been to HAA?

Also the bleachers in BC are wider than those at most places (Matthews and Alfond who both lost seats in renovations recently come to mind) so I would expect the capacity to remain constant, or at worst lose one seat per row, should they replace them with seats.

nope, never been. there's another BC poster, maybe JD, not sure, who has also stayed away from HAA. I know, it's insane, superstitions aside

Oh I've been to Agganis many times, just not for a BC game ;)

Should these teams meet again, if BU can refrain from taking retarded penalties all over the ice, I'd expect a game like last year's Beanpot Final. That might be a big if though. If they make it as easy on the refs as they did Saturday night, well, they probably won't have a chance.

ah, yes, i do remember that now........so you think the Beanpot will be a BC-BU final i take it?:p......still one of the strangest things in sports, that there's never been a Harvard/NU final:confused:

Please stop with the fanboyism and talk sense.

BU is on track to become amongst the most penalized teams in the NCAA for the second year running. Don't sit here and talk about how sweet and innocent they are when we all know they try and maintain that "bad boys of Boston" mentality.

Second of all, if they threw that game then they'd also have to throw their tournament game over break as well.
