Boston University Terriers 2026-2027 season…insert clever title here!

Call me crazy, but I really like this team. Not every team BU has had lately works this hard. Yes, we had some bad defensive coverage on the goals given up, but they were perfect shots for the most part - no goalie probably stops those. To come back and tie 2 games in the last minute is a great sign ( and one a 2 goal deficit in the 3rd). Now we need to advance to taking leads and defending them. I think this team will get there.

Well, can they hang on? Bednarik should sit next game - can’t do that up by 3 (really anytime). Good response after the major expired.

Wasn't there and it wasn't in the highlight package. What did he do?

It's nice to see the puck going into the net.

Very encouraging play on offense, breaking out quickly, slicing through the middle of the ice (and not getting squeezed out on the boards) and penetrating the crease. They created a lot of good chances. I thought there wasn't much to blame for the UConn goals and BU did a lot of good things defensively. Tynan and X both showing great confidence and growth.

Yah, pulled a Devin Kaplan 🤬🙄🫣💁🏾

Recalling. That roster…. Some kids should think about their choicing 😝as Shane lachnace should be on the terriors still. And why did eiserman leave as well 🤔
This could be a NC contender with those two… well maybe that’s a bit much but it would be better for everyone if they had stayed

Finally, the Terriers scored early and often, including a couple greasy ones just outside the crease. Only negative was Bednarik’s blatant spear which got him bounced and cost us a UConn PP goal. His physical play is generally terrific, but what triggered the spear? It’s one thing in October, another come the Beanpot and Tournament time.

Re: kids who should have stayed, coming from a top tier D-1 program it’s easy to be a little self-delusional, see the select few who make an immediate transition to the NHL, e.g. Celebrini, Smith and Hagens, and think you’ve got what it takes to do likewise. And you may have a posse back home chirping in your ear to take the money and not risk injury. While selective, all coaching staffs have been selling the dream since day one. I’m sure tough love conversations do occur, but that NHL grass looks so gr$$n.

Those 3 kids were all top 1/2 1st rd picks. Shane was what? 5th or 6th rd?

Some unique parameters too with him at least where his dad traded for his rights. Then what does grandpa do 🤔. Tell his grandkids he isn’t good enough right now? If Scott did encourage him to leave, does Jack go against that then?

All of us who follow amateur hockey know that the nhl draft is a coin flip. Not as bad as baseball, but still more misses than hits 💁🏾

there's no one right answer or solution on the problem of when to leave. those with a good head on their shoulders and with the right people around them will be able to weigh the risks and rewards here. it is up to the program to continue to live up to the expectations so they continue to be an appealing destination to the player, their circle (agent, family, etc), and the team that holds his rights. and to make sure they recruit the type of kids who make those sound decisions :)

it's not a 1-1, but i know of a relevant case study from UConn. Sharks 2022 6th round pick Joey Muldowney could've left each of the last two years, especially when his twin/bestie/roomie Jake Richard decided to back out on returning for their senior season and signed in Buffalo mid-offseason. he didn't come in highly touted but when you end your sophomore season second in goals in the nation behind Ryan Leonard you can definitely believe your own hype. joey also has the size to deal with so that might make him more willing to stay and build strength to overcome it. perhaps the more interesting parallel here is how during his freshman year, uconn's dressing room allegedly was a train wreck and it showed on the ice. they had home goal scoring droughts that stretched multiple games, they had talent but it didn't go together, it looked a lot like BU last year. they lost a lot of guys to pros and the portal (Sergeev, Salminen, Wood), but the twins guilted Hudson Schandor into staying for his grad year, coach overhauled the roster, leaders established the culture quick, and the huskies of the past 3 seasons have emerged. injuries got in the way a bit last year but the difference in how the team felt to watch from 23-24 to each of the next 2 has been stark, both on the ice and just overall. i think it's made a big impression on all the players, because they haven't lost many to the portal since and are recruiting well.

in theory, BU should have an even easier time rebounding from a tough season due to the inherit recruiting and prestige bonus, and if they do it successfully a la 24-25 UConn, it can be spun into an "us against the world" rah rah thing that leads to some actual wins.

Broke my heart in 1994-95 when Pomichter left who was one of the top 20 most talented forwards in school history. Missed out on the NC and played 21 years of pro ( non NHL) hockey. Imagine adding him to that juggernaut

I felt the same way when Joe Sacco left after his junior year. He eventually became an NHL regular but boy, imagine what that 90-91’ team would have like with Sacco on the roster.
