Boston University season thread 4: Where BC comes to talk hockey

Re: Boston University season thread 4: Where BC comes to talk hockey

Game Day.

Concerns:

- Noonan's health
- Our non-touted Freshman goalie gets the big game jitters
- A bad Patrick MacGregor turnover
- Penalties
- Last game for coach pressure
- Johnny Gaudreau and Steven Whitney
- BC's the better team. (5 HE team selects to 2 - both rookies - says a lot.)

Hopes:

- Coach brings a "First day of rest of life" attitude to locker room and the boys come out with a spirited/confidence attitude.
- The non-touted Freshman goalie is motivated by his "non-toutedness" :)
- Lock down BU D
- Strong 2-way play by the BU forwards
- The Danny O'Regan Line
- A spirited fan presence
- No OT
- The end to North Dakota's WCHA streak is a good omen
- The 2-headed HC for BC causes multiple too many men on the ice penalties
- To live another day

"Non-touted?"
Non-touted by whom?

Played two seasons with Powell River, posting a record of 27-15-1 with a 2.39 goals-against average and a .910 save percentage in 52 games ... Guided team to BCHL finals this past season and back-to-back Coastal Conference titles ... Named a 2012 Second Team All-Star ... Backstopped Team Canada West to a gold medal at the World Junior A Challenge in November and was named tournament's top goaltender ... Two-time co-winner of the BCHL's Wally Forslund Memorial Trophy (lowest combined GAA) ... Selected by the Pittsburgh Penguins in the fourth round (113th overall) in the 2012 NHL Entry Draft.

Maguire's resume prior to coming to BU looks pretty "touted" to me!

Checked seats and bu section is across from home bench. Last time Mookie recalls sitting in this 1/4 was the 8ot win over the igles with Maiser coming through big in the semi final.

:D

I'm counting four...Wey, Matheson, Gaudreau, and Whitney. And didn't Rodrigues make a team?

As for your goalies, I agree with HC (maybe a first...certainly don't want that to become a pattern). Compared to O'Connor, Maguire has quite the pedigree. OC is just a lowly undrafted 21 year old freshman ;)

Given all the attention that Gillies got, all other freshmen goalies were doomed to fall in the "non-touted" category.

If I heard this correctly (took a half day today), some BU transfer is lighting it up for Temple in the tourney right now. O'Brien? Played a couple years at BU.

He is a local kid, was a huge recruiting get, turned down Big East scholarships so that he could start from day 1, medical redshirted last year and graduated so he was able to transfer to a grad school and not sit out a year, was going to stay at BU if not for them being banned from the AE tourney this year.

Re: Boston University season thread 4: Where BC comes to talk hockey

Tentative BU conference schedule is on twitter as we speak.

Read the Globe today. It's all about Lowell and PC's amazing freshman goalies. No mention of the kid between the pipes for BU.

So they say that next years playoffs will have seeds 1-5 getting byes.. and the first round is still best of 3. I wonder if once they are down to 8 if round two will be best of 3? So 5 teams sit idle for a weekend?

Re: Boston University season thread 4: Where BC comes to talk hockey

Ya, it will be similar to what the CCHA and ECAC have been doing for a while now. Top five get a bye into QFs. Opening round and then QF round both best of three.

Well obviously 4 and 5 need to rest for a week before they play each other!

Re: Boston University season thread 4: Where BC comes to talk hockey

Wishing BU good luck for the game. I just saw highlights from the end of the last home game at BU this year, and Jack Parker pointed to the band and said "and I love the Band!" Boston University does have a great pep band, and it's awesome that Jack Parker thanked them like he did!

Re: Boston University season thread 4: Where BC comes to talk hockey

Of course, according to jd, this means Jack Parker finishes with a winning head to head record against Jerry York? :P
