Boston University Part IV: Off-Season or New Season?

Re: Boston University Part IV: Off-Season or New Season?

Ticket prices... I was thinking of going to Manchester tonight... but $54.10 (when you include ticketmaster fees) seems like a lot of money for a college hockey game... espically when you dont have a dog in the fight.

Is that for one seat?

Speaking of attendance, go check out Gino Auriemma's rant about attendance at NCAA games.

Re: Boston University Part IV: Off-Season or New Season?

Yup... as best I can tell from the ticketmaster website. The two day package is $86.90, so they give you a bit of a discount buying both nights (and you only pay one ticketmaster fee)...

I'm not sure what my price point would be for random college hockey when my team isn't in it... but that is above my threshold for sure.

I wonder, if attendance in the eastern regions is better, since the teams (and fanbase) seem to be more concentrated than they are out west.

Re: Boston University Part IV: Off-Season or New Season?

BC lost... justice prevails!!!! Karma, can't beat it!!

What an idiot.

Funny that BC just squeezed by Yale 8-7 in the first round last year when Yale's weakness was in the net. If one of their goaltenders had the kind of night that Howe had, the Eagles would have been bounced in 2010.

Come on, this is a little too simplistic. BC was up 9-4 (I think) and you don't know how the game would have unfolded.

How about that BC shot late in third that hit the pipe, then bounced off the back pad of Howe and just squeaked on the outside of the post. BC had their chances, and I wasn't going to count them out of that game until the final whistle blew. 3 or 4 posts if I remember... It was just CC's night. They played the game of their lives.

Agreed that no one knows, other than the fact it sure would have been different. Howe played the game of his life. (His GAA this season is over 3 and his save percentage is .89something -- shades of Jason Tapp.)

The thing that croaked Yale last year was its goaltending. I'll go further out on the limb: Last night if CC were stuck with last year's Eli's trio, the Eagles would be seeing the Wolverines later this afternoon -- in spite of being otherwise outplayed by the Tigers.

 Funny I came looking for the BU thread but it seems I accidentally confused it with the BC thread...

totally agree with that..............

Re: Boston University Part IV: Off-Season or New Season?

BC didn't quit and I felt bad for Muse at the end. He was a heck of a player over 4 years and like Millan carried almost all of the load up there.

While CC was the better team last night, It sticks in my craw that Barry Melrose who is (overrated and overblown) had his off the top of the head pregame prediction come true about BC and Muse being ready for a bad game or something to that effect.

Oh well there were some detractors about HE and it's record OOC so I hope that we still have someone standing after today.

Ciao

Jeez, you must hate the fact that a BU fan(s) brought up BC losing then...

Why is he an idiot? You do realize that FSteve, Nick, Onion Man, claver, TimP etc. don't exactly engender much sympathy, right? For that matter, neither do you.

Actually JD is a good one and a fair one, and Nick P is usually right on target though the truth does hurt.

Agreed. JD has been an excellent contributor to this thread. Nick, Steve, Carmine, et al. also have good, honest insight in between shots. And frankly, I'd be a little disappointed if the shots weren't there.

It's plainly idiotic to gloat over the BC loss. It's a model program. Read Kevin Cullen's Globe article today.

It isn't idiotic to gloat over a loss to a team that everyone was picking to win it all that happens to be your rival. They still had a better season that us no doubt but it doesn't mean we can't enjoy their season ending in an embarrassing fashion. I agree that JD is a solid contributor along with Carmine but it doesn't mean BU fans can't enjoy the BC loss after a season where there wasn't much to enjoy. The fact that BC is a model program is irrelevant unless you re a bandwagon fan. For me it doesn't matter if they are 1 or 58 in the country I'm going to root against them and enjoy it anytime they lose.

I, for one, don't get my jollies from BC losses, unless they directly or indirectly help BU. Call me crazy, but I'd rather see Hockey East succeed in the tourney even if BU isn't involved to help show the strength of the conference. Would I rather have seen Merrimack have a more successful tourney than BC or UNH? Sure, because having a new HE team in the mix shows the depth of the league. Would I like to have seen BC win another NC? Probably not, but I at least wanted them to make the Frozen Four with the off chance of having two Hockey East teams face off for an NC.

But did I "enjoy" them losing? Heck no

What about admitting BC is a model program much better than ours at this point AND being happy when they lose?

You guys keep falling over each other to suck up to BC, and it's slightly sickening. It's a sports rivalry, it's ok to not like the other team, and that's kind of the point.

This is more along how I feel. To me BC is kind of like your buddy whose a big rival that you always want to beat, and it hurts more than anything if you dont. When the situation comes up, and your not in the fight, you have a hard time cheering for them, but then almost wish they had won after they lose.

That being said, I'd never cheer for a western school over an eastern school (particularly a Hockey East school) when it comes to the NC.

I usually just find a team I can root for outside the conference. I don't agree with the root for the conference philosophy. I understand people's reasons for it but I personally can't force myself to root for anyone in the conference to be celebrating unless it is us. For example, this year I am rooting for Minnesota-Duluth because Chris Connolly's brother is quite a player for them and I was pulling for Miami because what we did to them in 09. It is usually pretty easy to find someone to pull for out of the conference. Western Michigan comes to mind as well this year. Would I rather see one of those three or UNH win? It is just an easy decision. I want UNH to remain the university of no hardware forever.

This is the big difference for me too and I think it comes with time following college hockey. I got into college hockey at Cornell and was trained to see Harvard as the source of all things worthless (I may still believe that, but probably not as strongly...I think :) ). At that point there was no way I could ever see myself rooting for Harvard if they made it further than Cornell in the playoffs. But with time (especially on these forums) I saw how little the rest of the college hockey world thought of the ECAC in general. It's one thing having a rivalry with an intra-conference team, but it's another thing when people basically think that you're not even in their league (competitively speaking). It was at that point that I started rooting for Cornell 1st, the conference second, and everyone playing Harvard third.

Hockey East has less of the inferiority complex problem, but it's still the case that Western teams think that their god's gift to college hockey. So because of that, while I want to see BU succeed in every way possible, including beating BC, there's no way that I'm rooting for one of those teams to beat an ECAC or Hockey East team.
