Boston University off-season thread (preparing for 16/17).

Re: Boston University off-season thread (preparing for 16/17).

So tomorrows game is against The University of Prince Edward Island Panthers.

I don't ever remember seeing them visit before.
Correct, BU has never played against PEI before.

Agree the X-Men and Varsity Reds seem to be the most common.

Canadian teams I can remember off the top of my head are:

St. FX "X-Men"
New Brunswick "Varsity Reds"
Toronto "Varsity Blues"
Concordia "Stingers"

Not sure I can remember seeing any others although I'm sure there are.
Here is a list of every Canadian school BU has played before. It includes the season the series started, the last season BU played them, how many games BU has played against them and how many were exhibition games (all games since the 1989-90 season have been exhibitions).

School - Started - Last - GP
Acadia - 2015-16 - 2015-16 - 1 (exh)
Concordia - 1989-90 - 2002-03 - 2 (exh)
Dalhousie - 1960-61 - 1983-84 - 3
Loyola of Montreal - 1967-68 - 1967-68 - 2
Memorial University - 1967-68 - 1967-68 - 1
New Brunswick - 1963-64 - 2008-09 - 13 (3 exh)
Queen's - 1961-62 - 1964-65 - 2
Royal Military College - 1964-65 - 1964-65 - 1
St. Francis Xavier- 1965-66 - 2013-14 - 6 (4 exh)
St. Thomas - 2014-15 - 2014-15 - 1 (exh)
Toronto - 1925-26 - 2012-13 - 11 (6 exh)
Windsor - 1998-99 - 1998-99 - 1 (exh)

Merry Christmas everyone. Here's to a successful and entertaining '16-'17 season !

Re: Boston University off-season thread (preparing for 16/17).

FYI it looks like they gave season ticket holders free extra tickets to use.

I just happened to notice they were in my account since I logged on to transfer one.

One would think they would have let us known in advance so we would actually have a chance at using them.

There was an email sent out on Wednesday that I received which mentioned the extra tickets.

A couple of other season ticket holders in my group also did not get an email.

Too bad, we would have tried to bring another family with us had we had some notice.

Re: Boston University off-season thread (preparing for 16/17).

Terriers dressing only 14 forwards tonight due to several injuries. One report said Andren has a broken thumb.
Line chart

Only 14? With the studs on this team you can skate 8 every night and cruise through the schedule.

Re: Boston University off-season thread (preparing for 16/17).

Harper with a Paul Kariya hat trick

So I guess we don't have to worry about Harper not being ready after being bumped up a year. Last time that worked out well that I remember was Peter MacArthur.

Re: Boston University off-season thread (preparing for 16/17).

BU, NU, and especially Merrimack involved in games that turn ugly with players tossed for fighting. Might the NCAA vs. Canadian colleges exhibitions have run their course?

Also, Keller with the quietest hat trick debut by a freshman Terrier. :D:D

Merrimack game - 172 PIM
BU game - 122 PIM
NU game - 114 PIM

Yeah, probably time to put these exhibitions on the shelf for awhile.

Amen to that. 2 or 3 teams up there are remotely competitive. That was not one of them. Must make for some entertaining hockey if they play one another like that.

Merrimack was in a game with lots of penalties?!? No Way!

very true here. mookie would like to know that harper is on pace to score 300 pts, but tommy kelley looked great out there. he was beating people to pucks. beating people while carrying the puck. maybe 1 iffy shift and that was it.
of course mookie would love it if he did some training or drank of potion to make it so, but......

at least nobody got hurt!!!! :D

and that pei guy who thought it would be a good idea to tangle with greenway :p dude is lucky the terriors can't throw down. greenway is probably the pound for pound hockey east tough guy champion (was close to it last year). this season will be fun to watch.

interesting note.

10 goals scored.

only 10 players had points.
just 4 forwards

I looked at all the games played today and it was not just the exhibitions, as 2 of the 3 regular season games had over 40 PIM and a major. Here are the games, PIMs and majors called (with the regular season games in bold):

New Brunswick at Merrimack - 172 PIM, 4 majors (hitting from behind, high sticking, slashing, contact to the head)
Windsor at Bowling Green - 168 PIM, 8 majors (5 fighting, 1 charging the goalie, 1 abuse of officials, 1 head-butting)
Western Ontario at Niagara - 161 PIM, 9 majors (8 facemasking, 1 slashing)
Prince Edward Island at Boston University - 122 PIM, 4 majors (2 roughing, 1 clipping, 1 hitting from behind)
Acadia at Northeastern - 114 PIM, 2 majors (contact to the head, facemasking)
Québec à Trois-Rivières at Clarkson - 69 PIM, 3 majors (2 roughing, 1 hitting from behind)
Brock at RIT - 67 PIM, 1 major (facemasking)
Dalhousie at Massachusetts - 66 PIM, 2 majors (hitting from behind)
Waterloo at Miami - 64 PIM, 2 majors (kneeing, cross-checking)
Guelph at Mercyhurst - 57 PIM, 1 major (checking from behind)
Army at Colgate - 57 PIM, 1 major (checking from behind)
McGill at Quinnipiac - 54 PIM, 2 majors (elbowing, cross-checking)
Mount Royal at Denver - 51 PIM, 3 majors (boarding, checking from behind, fighting)
Concordia at Vermont - 48 PIM
Toronto at Western Michigan - 42 PIM
Michigan Tech at Minnesota-Duluth - 41 PIM, 1 major (contact to the head)
Carleton at Holy Cross - 37 PIM, 1 major (contact to the head - cross-checking)
St. Francis Xavier at Connecticut - 35 PIM, 1 major (contact to the head - high sticking)
Queen's at Robert Morris - 31 PIM, 1 major (infraction not listed)
Victoria at Wisconsin - 26 PIM
Manitoba at North Dakota - 20 PIM
Regina at Minnesota State - 20 PIM
Alamaba Huntsville at Ferris State - 8 PIM

Of the 23 games 17 had at least 1 major called and there were 46 majors called in total. It appears that the NCAA is cracking down on all penalties and has also told the officials to call majors when warranted. It will be interesting to see how the 20 games Sunday are called and how the teams adjust to the officiating.
