Boston University off-season thread (preparing for 16/17).

Re: Boston University off-season thread (preparing for 16/17).

Patrick Harper is bringing it again tonight.

Another great game for BU but the level of play from the U18s was clearly inferior to the U18 teams the past few years.

Really tough to get a read on BU after seeing the game tonight. USA defense made so many turnovers in their own zone with no pressure and at the blue line too.

The USA goalie was their best player as he was getting zero help.

Way too many clutching and grabbing penalties by both teams.

8 Goals in 6 periods.

Perhaps BU will pull a Kariya and include these stats in his totals.

Not that they count, but since Harper had hat tricks in consecutive games here is a trivia question for you: when was the last time a BU player had hat tricks in consecutive games?

So are BU students going to be creative with the tequila chant when UVM comes to town?

Burn the boats

Get the duckboats ready

Not so fast. As noted in the USCHO article Minnesota was in the same place in 2007 and what happened? Let's see how they do in the two games in Denver.

I feel like Drury did it during his Junior year (with one of them perhaps being his 4-goal effort against BC. If not, then perhaps Jay Pandolfo's senior year (I know he had at least 4 tricks that year, feel like it may have even been 6).

Re: Boston University off-season thread (preparing for 16/17).

I watched most of the first two periods on the stream:

- Love the streaming. Other than a few times where the score was occupying the entire middle of the screen for 20 seconds while action was ongoing, I thought the production was well done/ Certainly an improvement.
- I agree that this U18 team appears to be weaker than recent years. Perhaps I am over-influenced by the fact that the 3 BU guys on the team appear pretty average. That said, I thought Farrance's skating was impressive and I could see him improving as the year goes on and being an impact freshman. It seemed Tkachuk didn't play that much. Was it just me?
- Harper - what can you say? He reminds me of Cal Ingraham. His touch with the puck around the net is a cut above. He knows where to go to get good scoring opportunities, and needless to say, he is cashing in on them at an a torrid pace. I'm sure things will settle down with real competition, but the bottom line is that he is going to be a big contributor on this team.
- Keller looks phenomenal, as we expected he would.
- Interesting that with so much freshman scoring in these two exhibitions, Bellows has been blanked.
- Fabbro likes to shoot.
- Looking forward to seeing how they do against real competition.

Re: Boston University off-season thread (preparing for 16/17).

While the U18s certainly weren't as good as some of the teams they've had in the past, there were still some very high skill players on the team unlike the UPEI sqaud we faced last week. Other than the penalties and some things here and there, a very complete effort. Those penalties are going to be the norm this year, impeding player movement is one of the points of emphasis this year, so the holding/hooking/interference calls that we've been whistled for in both exhibitions are what they're on the lookout for.

According to CHN stats, BU and BC are the two youngest teams in NCAA D-I at 20y 2m average age.
