Boston University off-season thread (preparing for 16/17).

Re: Boston University off-season thread (preparing for 16/17).

Mike McMahon put it best:

Now that he has gone undrafted, it makes a lot of sense for Fortunato to transfer. He needs to put himself in best position to sign as a UFA

BU, loaded on D, is not the best spot for him to get noticed as an undrafted UFA. He should choose a spot where he's guaranteed top-4 mins.

I suspect Fortunato entered the offseason anticipating one or both of Somerby/Hickey to leave, opening more of a spot for him to get PT. With both back, Fabbro and Krys coming in, Fortunato at best is fighting for the 6th spot with Diffley, MacLeod, and Switzer.

So you believe his leaving is voluntary? Oh-kay:rolleyes:

You and "sources" agree on that, unless you are the source! :)

I know some here didn't like his play on the ice, but I did. That said, if he was going to see less playing time I wouldn't have seen as much of him on the ice this upcoming season. It seems he made the best choice for himself and I wish him well in his post-BU career.

And you know differently? If so, now it's your turn to share.
Frankly, I don't "know". I wasn't in the meeting he had with DQ. However, you are loaded with high end and experienced defensemen and didn't lose anyone to the pros. I "suspect" that he was shown the math and "encouraged" to believe that his opportunity to play and to impress the scouts would be severely diminished in the future.

That's not how I define Voluntary.

Nah. David quinn would never do such a thing. Only other schools do that.

This would have been an easier pill to swallow if Fortunato had missed a "voluntary workout" during exams but I guess now we can wait for Rogie Sandusky to pop out from his tent underneath the windows of a 14-year old prospect and be as outraged as he was when York suggested a moving along for Joe Pearce.

It's probably similar to RobB in that Quinn honestly laid out the scenario to him and helped him understand where he stood on the depth chart. Was it Fortunato walking into Quinn's office and saying coach, I want to go elsewhere - probably not. But I don't suspect Quinn called him in and said kid, you're gone. There's something to be said for giving the players honest information about where they stand as opposed to stringing them along for the purposes of having backup players if needed, but not giving the kid a proper chance to advance his career.

Re: Boston University off-season thread (preparing for 16/17).

I would assume that's how it happens most places where this issue comes up.

Re: Boston University off-season thread (preparing for 16/17).

Finally some clarity on who made the decision and why.

Shouldn't pay attn to internet trolls but BU staff did NOT force Fortunato out like some saying. He wanted guaranteed ice time/other issues
.
Too bad Fortunato didn't make his decision a few months ago when JD Greenway was hoping to join his brother on Comm. Ave.

Speaking of trolls...Wow! Joe Pearce!!! More than a decade later and the dickish one can’t let go of that bone. Ya point out that Jerry is not quite a saint and it's on you forever.

Re: Boston University off-season thread (preparing for 16/17).

mookie liked his game. mookie remembers that while other guys were asked to sit out every so often, fortunoshoto was asked to take a shift.

would he have been better with 20lbs and 4 inches? prolly.

if he wanted guaranteed ice time, so be it.
if he was told he'd have a tough go of it because others had banked guaranteed ice time, that's bs.

kids need to earn it. not cause they were drafted here or there.

Re: Boston University off-season thread (preparing for 16/17).

That's just it mook, bingo. I don't have a problem with quinn.

Based on all we have heard from players about DQ - that he is up front and honest, I find it hard to believe that anybody is guaranteed any level of ice time.

Re: Boston University off-season thread (preparing for 16/17).

think jd's issue is with people who jump on jrrrrrrry and give GQ a pass for doing sometimes the same thing.

People "jump on jrrrrrrry" because his fanbase actually thinks he is a saint. When he acts like a mortal hockey coach, it's fun to call the BC faithful on it. No one has ever thought Quinn was a saint. He hasn't been here long enough. People don't "give him a pass" because it's all part of the job of running a D1 hockey program so there's nothing to give him a pass on.

Re: Boston University off-season thread (preparing for 16/17).

Yes, st. Jerry.

Mookie is spot on. And again, i actually don't have any issues with quinn. Your previous coach on the other hand...

;)

hoky does come and tell us that kids ARE in fact promised (or their advisors are promised) to get them to show up on campus.

Yes, and I remember hearing that St. Jerry promised Marty Reasoner (aka "The Savior") guaranteed first line and 1st pp unit to get him to commit to BC. Coach Parker, as I heard it, refused to promise him the same and said he would have to earn it. :D

Ha, I don't think it took a promise for reasoner to figure out where he would stand on that BC team
