Re: Boston University 2015-16 thread part 3 - The Postseason

Did tom say "team" or "program"?

Matter of opinion if they top 5 now. (Mookie thinks bc and pc are top 2 right now).

A slight stretch to claim umlol is a top 5 nationally--though to be honest that is also up for interpretation. Goofs are PROLLY a top 5 with facilities, $$$, recruits, etc. but blow chunks.

BU does have poor leadership. Which starts with GQ of course. These are kids who rotate out every 2/4 yrs. no luxury of a GLA being there to run the show in addition to a Bellicheat to compare to perhaps the best lead team on earth.

Tough to pinpoint. But little to no work ethic this weekend. Was impressed with the prep work being laid down for one or two of the boys to go hack someone next game and finish their BU careers with a major / misconduct whistle as we see year after year. :(

Mookie shoulda stayed home this weekend
Even Jasmine wasn't worth it

Re: Boston University 2015-16 thread part 3 - The Postseason

We need to realize that finishing 5th isn't bad with this group of hea teams.
Igles and Friars are flipping good. Like as in best 2 teams in NCAA good. I'd take them over Sioux right now on neutral ice.
And while QU may be good too BU beat them. But again all opinion

Re: Boston University 2015-16 thread part 3 - The Postseason

Add to that the nacho buffet ran outta chips!!!!! Who does that?!?!?

Well that's just plain dumb, knowing the crowd was going to be huge.

But it must have been the trend last night as daughter was on last day of spring break, hadn't been to a game all season so she comes along and fortunately she didn't want to go to Beer Works which would be our usual stop. Come to find out a regular fan got to Beer Works nice and early, seated at 4:00, and didn't get into their seats at Tsongas until right after UML's first period goal! So I think a few places were a little off last night unfortunately but she said they were shortstaffed and the waitress was beyond frazzled.

chickod, I don't think you're too out there. My wife and I have been following the team for ten years now (I know, less than many of you) and were just talking the other day about how frustrating it's been that generally the last couple years' teams seem to "show up" much less than they should.

Absolutely positive he said "program." The quote (almost verbatim) was, "Right now Lowell is a Top 5 program nationally." He also said when it was 2-0 that if Lowell scores another it would be a "blowout." He was clearly disgusted, which was the general point that I wanted to convey. You could say "underachieving."

Thanks...I didn't even want to bring up how "lucky" they were in '09. That will start a firestorm, but the reality is they played poorly down the stretch that year as well (and were lucky to even beat UNH to get to the Frozen Four in the first place).

I understand the landscape has changed and there are many more good teams now. I don't expect them to win EVERY year. I get it. But I am a little tired of "talented" teams not showing up. Lake Superior State has won more National Championships in the last 38 years than we have. Again, either our talent is overrated, or the team underachieves. You can't have it both ways...

Despite what many think, this does not consume me to the point of obsession. It's college kids playing a sport...I get it. I just have a problem with a less than complete effort (and again, it's either that or they're not as good as we think - there can't be any other explanation)...and that applies to anything in life, not just college hockey. What I wouldn't have given to have enough talent to be in the position that some of these players are. And maybe that's the problem...when you're treated like a god from the time you are in junior high, you get a big ego. That's why I think it takes those role players to balance out a squad. In more than a few cases, "mediocre" players have turned out to be great coaches, because they could never afford to take things for granted. Many great players were lousy coaches because they couldn't understand why the players just couldn't automatically do what they were able to do. Perhaps BU needs to rethink the "balance" of types of athletes they are bringing in.

So we just dismiss last year because it screws up your argument, right?

Did we win last year? Was I living in a cave? Did I miss something? I could have sworn from my seat at center ice in the balcony I saw a team wearing black and white celebrating. But maybe my eyes are failing...

But seriously, you're missing the point. The expectation is to be a top-flght program. If I'm wrong about that, then I stand corrected. I'll be thrilled with one National Championship, like Harvard in 1989. Again, why are you attacking me? Are you happy about the last two weekends? Do you HONESTLY think that they DIDN'T underachieve? I'm talking about (as I have been for the past month) EFFORT. Did you think it was there last night?

I can accept losing. I can't accept mailing it in. And don't say they "didn't mail it in...they just aren't talented enough." If that's the case, then all the expert talent evaluator "pundits" have their heads up their collective you know what. But...let that be. NEXT YEAR we are purported to have one of the top recruiting classes. So we'll see what happens, won't we? If we have talent AND effort, we would have / will have won more than two National Championships in 38 years. "THAT'S my point.. (Jack)" :)

Re: Boston University 2015-16 thread part 3 - The Postseason

To tell the truth Mookie wouldn't say they mailed it in. Cause it takes some effort to mail something

OH MY GOD!!! THEY LOST TWO GAMES!!!!! THEY SUCKED LAST NIGHT!!! THE SKY IS FALLING!!!!!! Breath. I know we live in the sports-radio culture where we call for the coaches head after a four game losing streak, but I thought BU Nation was better than that. If they are Frozen Four-less over the next 2 seasons we'll talk. I'm just not ready to crap on the program for losing to a higher seed on the road. (Yes, I know they phoned it in last night. It's one game.)

You win. A person can't say ANYTHING even remotely critical without getting lambasted. You guys sit there and pass accolades back and forth. I'm done.

Re: Boston University 2015-16 thread part 3 - The Postseason

And 2009 only happened because of luck.
Darn straight. Lucky the leadership finally showed up in the 3rd period of the last 3 games. Leadership hung around for OT in the NC game too. Lucky bahstahds. :D

But you have changed the comparison. Providence lost in the Hockey East quarterfinals last year and did't make the Garden, which is what we are taking about here. In fact they lost at home to UNH, who finished 8th in the standings. BU lost on the road to a very good UML team.

And as for the national championship, since 1981, when the WCHA finally settled on have a tournament that crowned a single champion, only 18 of the 35 NCAA Champions won their league tournament. And in the 13 years of the 16 team tournament only 7 NCAA Champions won their league tournament. So almost have of the at large teams have won the NCAA title.

Also, what are your expectation to be a top-flight program?

Sean

It really is crazy how many teams flame out in the conference tourney QFs and recharge the batteries and win the national tourney lately.
