Boston University 2015-16 thread part 3 - The Postseason

Re: Boston University 2015-16 thread part 3 - The Postseason

Team has been gawd awful for a while now, and have a goalie who cant steal a game for you. Horrible heartless effort but as you noted we've seen this before. "They shoot horses don't they?"

But they DO have individual talent. There is just no coordination. They seem like a bunch of individuals...almost like these "all-star teams" you see in high school football or something. Like they've never played together before. This is a TEAM game, and they just don't play like one. I still feel as though they need MORE players that (even if not as talented) will stay longer and lead to more continuity from one year to the next.

Re: Boston University 2015-16 thread part 3 - The Postseason

All we need now is to see which terrior takes a game misconduct trying to injure a pio

Re: Boston University 2015-16 thread part 3 - The Postseason

There is little to no depth here.
We have a top 6 forward who was skating in the NAHL in January (this is not a good league if anyone is unfamiliar)

Re: Boston University 2015-16 thread part 3 - The Postseason

Not sure if "quit" is the right word...I got lambasted (better word than "eviscerated") for suggesting that signing ALL high draft picks (which leads to people leaving early and, as a result, no continuity) is a bad trend. But, I repeat, you can't have it both ways. Either there is no leadership on this team (and again, just because they are "seniors" doesn't make them de facto leaders), or they're just not as good as we thought.

Agree with your point that loading up entirely on high picks who leave early isn't always a recipe for success (see: Kentucky basketball), but that's not really the problem with this squad. Yes, they're young but there are plenty of upperclassmen on this squad. I'm not sure it's an effort thing either, but something is just completely taking them off the rails when they give up one goal. The second line of Ahti, Lane, and whoever else has been with them has completely fallen off the map, Robbie, Andren, and Cloonan have become non-factors, and the top line creates chances that they can't finish.

Really wish we went to running clock already

Re: Boston University 2015-16 thread part 3 - The Postseason

Of course not. Did anyone really think anything would miraculously change in the past two weeks? I've said this before - I seriously question Quinn's coaching ability.

This is their fifth playoff game this year. They have had a good effort in exactly one of them. It's probably too early for that discussion, but if this happens again next year, we have to start seriously asking that question...

They have individual talent but no top line "go-to" talent. It's like BU has 2 second lines. A poor 4th line. D who wants to play offense more than defense. Occasionally gifted but more often shaky goaltending. There is the post mortem.

Exactly right...and that's why it appears as though they "quit." Because when you can't score, you get demoralized when the opponent does, especially when it's the first one. But there does seem to be something missing. They seems to not have good vision on the ice, and the "shots" aren't really good scoring chances. They don't ever make the extra pass and seem confused. Also, I'm not a fan of the "cycle" style, because I feel they need to open up the ice to take advantage of their speed rather than all bunching up together. The spacing on those power plays was horrendous. And we won't even talk about guys just being left wide open on defense and nobody touching them.

Maybe so, but even RIT didn't get "embarrassed" (only down 1-0 going into the 3rd). If they have ANY talent at all, you would think there would be some pride associated with it.

Re: Boston University 2015-16 thread part 3 - The Postseason

WEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE!!!!

(Let us extend GQ another decade with a raise)

So, since he was the hand-picked successor, this sort of makes for an uncomfortable conversation, doesn't it????

Re: Boston University 2015-16 thread part 3 - The Postseason

Mookie really hopes this is because the boys took Denver and gave the goals

Re: Boston University 2015-16 thread part 3 - The Postseason

Inconsistent goaltending is psychologically damaging to a team, IMHO. Combine that with a young D, and you get bad d zone turnovers and panic under sustained pressure.

Lack of depth and specificly lack of speed in bottom 6 is also a problem.

Sigh. I don't know how to fix talent issues like they have, except through recruiting. A solid, reliable, unquestioned no 1 G would be a good start, I think. At least the Bruins are about to go on a deep playoff run...oh...

Play ball?

Re: Boston University 2015-16 thread part 3 - The Postseason

Sad thing is Denver is not even trying anymore

Re: Boston University 2015-16 thread part 3 - The Postseason

What's uncomfortable? GQ will take what you give him

I'm not following your point, so I don't want to speculate without a translation... :) But I hope it doesn't mean what I think it means...

Young D?!?!?

They all played into the national championship game last year (crept for Charlie)

Guess again
