maybe if they scheduled the beanpot at 4p on a saturday it would fill up!

Would it do better as a Friday / Saturday event similar to the Hockey East championship weekend? I bet it would.

I had the same thought. Is the Monday tradition losing its appeal from a practical standpoint? I think having it on a weekend would encourage more pre & (esp.) post-game gatherings both nights, and may also get more people in the door for the consolation game.

From a ticketing standpoint, they could do (as an example) single night offerings for $40/1st night, $50/2nd night, or $75/both nights.

The concession/parking thing really is something to consider. A meal for one person will run you about $15-20, and there are no water fountains in the entire building so you can't even bypass the drink price. I'm sure that also serves as a deterrent for students as well, not sure many can afford to sit there for 6-7 hours paying $5 for a bottle of water and another $6-7 for a hot dog.

I was thinking if they played the first round on the off weekend leading up to super bowl they could attract a larger crowd. Say Sunday at 2 and 5:30
They have not sold out the beanpot in years but I think last year was first time they listed the actual attendance not the standard sellout attendance
Last night was disappointing in that I thought there was more press on the competitive teams this year

You can always grab a drink from the restroom sink faucet. :D

So, Beanpot semi final is over. Game this Friday. I asked earlier - does LaCouvee get a start or does he stick with Maguire?

And Bomber - are you ever going to answer the trivia question???? I wanna know if I was right.

I find this practice repulsive. If I were ever a mayor of a big city, I would get an ordinance passed that requires a water fountain to be available in any arena/stadium. It gets me so upset. I CAN'T STAND paying money for water, much less a ridiculous price. I use the water fountain at HAA regularly.

And to follow on my previous post, this is my last resort, but still avoids spending money for water.

Not losing its appeal in the slightest, will not change

I agree that nothing will change. I do think that overall it is not as "hot" as it once was and the overall appeal has waned.

I won't have thought so, but on Monday, one of the people I was there with asked for and received a cup of tap water for free. So it seems you can skirt the drink requirement.

Ruikka was who I was thinking of. I'd love to get confirmation on Joubert

I think Q sticks with #31.

Joubert played 13 games for Princeton in 90-91, sat out the next season as a transfer and played three seasons for BU. However Hockeydb shows he spent part of that 90-91 season in the USHL, so most likely didn't finish his freshman year at Princeton. Pretty nice numbers in his three seasons at BU, with a monster year (29G) on the '95 title team.

I guess those 7,000 empty and unsold seats don't count for anything.

For some of us it hasn't lost its appeal. The only Beanpot that I have missed since the mid-70s was last year, and I had tickets but couldn't go do to the weather and scheduling change.

But to say that it is "not losing its appeal in the slightest" is myopic to the extreme when evidence says otherwise.

To me the game itself has not lost its appeal, but when I factor in $45 parking, $12 beer, $9 slice of pizza etc, I do question if I really want to attend.

Based on the games not selling out for the first time in years (ever?) I'm obviously not the only one.

I'm sure next week will be sold out / full etc.

Been to dozens of first games at Beanpot where it was friends and family only

You are missing the whole point. Those games were still sold out. This one had 7,000 unsold seats!

The only times the old and new Garden looked remotely full on first Mondays was the last period of the first game, and the first period of the second game.
People more interested in the second game show up late. People more interested in the first game tend to not stay for beyond the first period of the second game.
But the seats were all sold.
Not last night.
Not for the last few years during the first Mondays.
