says Barbara Matson...............who ever that is. Boy, whither the Boston Globe?

Barbara has been writing for the Globe for the past ten years. She covers college sports and focuses on hockey. She knows her stuff.

The other guys got it - Barbara Matson. Ironically, I hit my 5 freebies too so now I'm tapped out for awhile. :(

For what it's worth, the Herald had this take on the same comments. Still wondering who asked what question ...

Besides the poor writing and proofing of the article it appears the Herald writer didn't bother to read anything about the matter:

"Last week, Boston University announced it had turns over to the NCAA an investigation into its hockey program amid allegations that an unnamed player was gambling last season."

OK, so he graduated, applied for grad school AND was admitted. Arguably, isn't that justification he originally planned to return to use the final season of his eligibility then? Was Ottawa's offer SO good that there was NO chance there would be a better one next year??

I'm not claiming to know those answers - just to point out there is more than one way to look at it.

O'Connor and the coaching staff had planned all year that he would earn his degree, graduate, and turn pro after his junior season (this way BU had 2 scholarship goalies last year in him and LaCouvee, and 2 this year in LaCouvee and Maguire) the grad school application was a backup plan in case the pro offers never came.

And yes, Ottawa gave him the maximum rookie contract allowed under the current CBA, so there is no chance there would have been a better one at the end of the following year.

Agganis, how dare you bring facts in to counteract a tin foil hat argument! :D

FWIW, it was common knowledge even to BU fans in Fall 2014 that O'Connor was graduating and would not be coming back for his senior season.

Seriously, this rampant rumor mongering and speculation needs to end unless someone has more facts to bring to the table. Everything that I have read and seen is that O'Connor is a good guy and a great teammate. Obviously, if he graduated in 3 years, he was a good student. There are no facts that suggest O'Connor was involved. There are no facts that even come close to saying anyone threw the championship game. In fact, the statement said the investigation determined the gambling did not involve college hockey.

Oh its all in good fun. Eventually the facts will come out and that will be that. In other news, I hear the NCAA is investigating how a major program keeps a sh! tty coach for 30 years who's never won a national championship, yet the fan base has a Jim Jones like devotion to the guy! Rumor is said coach, who is not named but has a fondness for turtleneck sweaters, has pictures of the Athletic Director with a goat, which is the only way he keeps his job after decades of incompetence. :D

Kid was a 24-year-old senior, probably got quietly escorted out of his dorm by the Big 10.

Since we know that some person (or persons) began the false NC game claim and, as CHN reported, the “rumor is being perpetuated by coaches, agents and scouts in New England,” ferreting out the identities of those mendacious folks would seem far more important than rehashing tinfoil theories about something that simply didn’t happen.

I'm curious how you can be so sure it didn't happen. Do you know something the rest of us don't like who other two players were? Hopefully nothing happened but as of right now I haven't seen anything very convincing either way.

I'm curious how you can be so sure we actually landed on the moon and that Joe McCarthy was wrong all of these years. Don't you see, there are Communists everywhere!
