merry new year!

JFK received Player of the Game honors in the win against Slovakia.

On the flip side, rough game for hickey against finland. Although it was a mess of a game and tourney for canada in general.

You're also assuming that Roberto will return to the program. For what it's worth, I've not seen him once at a game, on the road, in the box with the scratches, anything like that. For all we know, BU's plan is to wait for this to blow over (hopefully) in the second semester and quietly part ways with Roberto at some later point. He could also indeed return next season, we don't know. The point is, BU has not definitively "chose" anything. Not to mention, the option that they've currently "chosen" is the one the NCAA agreed upon. This conversation is a load of nonsense at this point.

No way we are hearing the whole story here. They have not suspended a kid for 1 year for doings something that 90% of all college athletes are doing. Remember that fantasy sports are also illegal per NCAA. There is more to this.

90% of college athletes gamble on athletics at a level above fantasy sports?

NO...you misinterepted. He meant he must have been doing something MORE than 90% of college athletes are doing. Because if he WERE doing what 90% were doing, it would be no big deal.

No doubt that the USA Terriers have been better than the Canadian Terrier... :D Hickey is no Marie-Phillipe Poulin...

However....before we get too overconfident....the Czech team was dead. They may as well have stayed home. If you watched the Canada/Finland game, they were flying up and down the ice. An unbelievable game. We don't want to have to play Finland in their home rink in front of their fans. From what I saw, the USA is methodical and efficient, but the Finns play with more speed (I won't say "skill" but almost) and they certainly have more firepower. When the USA plays a team that can skate and check with them, they're not getting seven goals. But Finland scored six against a Canada team that we were life and death with.

If all he was doing was beating football on Sundays, I really feel bad for this kid. I am just not sure I believe that story. There are some other rumors out there.

Well we have seen how ridiculous some rumors can get. But I haven't heard anyone else but you bring up the angle that the punishment is too harsh for the crime, so there must be something else. While I agree that the rule seems harsh since many kids that age gamble, it sounds like NCAA athletes are all very aware of the fact that it is off limits for them. The NCAA certainly sees to be done with this, so if there is anything else, it must me only a team rule issue? Or just doing something that really ticked off the coach (see the brothers Lappin).

Weren't the Lappin brothers at BU like 25 years ago? Who suspended Roberto?

Peter and Chris Lappin left the program, supposedly due to some interactions of at least one of them with one of Parkers daughters. As far as Roberto, I could be wrong, but from what I understand Roberto was taken out of the game lineups by the coaching staff (announced as breaking team rules at the time of the first game, then mostly mum on the topic, now justified as due to privacy issues while the matter was being investigated), and then suspended for the season by the NCAA.

good,change it up. Jesus:rolleyes:

Are you OK sterlippo? This is the second post I've seen today where you've been, let's say....less than your pleasant old self. You know how I worry!!!! Also, I actually was interested to hear that news. Grier's dad used to work for the Patriots. Interesting to see the family continuing on in that field.

Any. Way. Peeps - we have a big game Thursday. Harvard. They just won the Mariucci Classic. And they're ranked #5. We should have Hickey back but doubtful JFK, McAvoy and Fortunato will be back in time given they're all playing Wednesday. In Finland. Have not heard a peep about Grizz. Is he OK? Will he play? I'll be headed to Bright. Hopefully I won't get the only seat without a back again. Billion dollar endowment and they can't afford to fix that!

Scott Weighart's interview with Quinn provides encouraging news on Oksanen, as well as Grzelcyk and Olsson. He touches on the new forwards as well as the WJC guys, but no decision on who will play Thursday. US-Sweden bronze medal game is Tuesday, not Wednesday.

Scarlet--stay warm in the Harvard icebox.
