Boston University 2012 Offseason

Re: Boston University 2012 Offseason

Basically you're better off screwing the conference and finding a way to leave like a thief in the night rather than giving a season's notice. Heck, they should be happy, no one else ever wins the non-basketball sports it seems like. Now there'll be some competition in their conference again.

Was talking to a family with a Stony Brook soccer player (W) over the weekend, they are glad BU is leaving...BU women dominated AE soccer. Of course they mentioned they hope to go to CAA anyway.

They will now dominate Patriot League soccer. As long as they play enough OOC competition, they should still be able to achieve national top 25 rankings. Hopefully the men's team can be successful as well.

Mookie's frustraton likely comes from the fact that the rest of the country (almost) has announced next year's schedule and BU is still looking for season ticket committments/renewals before they actually tell us what we're getting for our $ this year.
Also, mookie still doesn't have a schedule.

that first payment was supposed to process today, huh? (mookie still has yet to renew)

Re: Boston University 2012 Offseason

I renewed but opted out of the quarterfinal games.... It would be nice if they had a schedule for us before the renewal process began.

Re: Boston University 2012 Offseason

We basically know the schedule based on the renewal letter info (plus BP and 2@ NoDak), but not all the specific dates. I know it's only July, but how can you not know if everybody else does?

As a season ticket holder since HAA opened I really bummed...but I'm not renewing.

Here's my logic:

1.) There's no real advantage other than getting your regular seats. If you can make it to the box office (which I can) the price is the same, it's actually higher to be a season ticket holder considering that BU has $12 ticket specials to the public from time to time. I have to say that it really grinds my gears that I pay $22 a seat and then I see an add for these discounts. How about you credit me that $$ towards next year's seats? And no...the beanpot doesn't sell out so that's not an issue.

2.) Save for the BC games it's no longer a tough ticket. You can walk-up most games and just buy a seat. That gets me out of paying for the exhibitions against Univ. of Canada (TBD) and the U-18 games. Not a huge fan of the obligatory 3 game HE quarters that are also so poorly attended. Finally, I also don't need the Lowell Friday night games in front of 3,700 fans that are silent...

3.) The team hasn't been very good in the past 7 or 8 years (yes 2009 was awesome...I was in DC) and I can wait and see if they're worth the investment.

4.) Prices of everything in the arena are spiraling out of control and they need this feedback. $7.50 for a beer? Is John Henry running the place?

5.) Off ice issues? What's the outcome of the task force?

6.) I guess the lack of sustained on and off ice performance and the fact that the atmosphere isn't close to what it was in year's past makes it an overall boring environment.

Feedback? Thoughts? Comments?

We know the games but as you stated, not the dates, which could make a difference for some. I've already renewed, but it would be nice to know the teams AND the dates prior to having to renew.

Crap, I agree with all your points, yet I am renewing.

My guess is, especially with the dropping of Nicastro's charges and the seemingly nonchalant prosecution of Trivino, the task force isn't going to come back with anything to write home about beyond some general recommendations along the lines of monitor them more, make sure they don't get into T's underage, etc.

I chose to renew, but I can absolutely see why many would choose otherwise for a variety of reasons.

A lot of valid points and I too share some of your frustrations.

Probably the biggest reason for me continuing to renew is that (at least so far), I am not yet willing to give up my seat location. If I had picked 3 or 4 rows lower, I would consider my seats to be about the best in the arena, and so far that's tough for me to pass up.

I particularly agree with your point about having to play full price for the canadian exhibition and the U-18 game. Thankfully they made it so the quarterfinals are an option now, and I did opt to not purchase the quarterfinal tickets. If we could opt out of the U18 game, I would. The canadian game, I might still buy them with the season tickets as I'm always excited when hockey season rolls around too. I also agree about the discounted ticket offers... seeing that grinds me too.

I will say that the free extra tickets they occasionally put in our account are a nice offer, and I actually have used those a couple of times.

The concession prices are a bit high, although I'm not likely to buy more than one or two beers at the game anyway, so in that sense to me there is not that big of a difference between the beer being $6 or $7.50.... but I definitely agree with your point. I'm more concerned about the quality of the concessions. For $7.50 a beer, they should be fresh, cold, Co2 set properly, taps cleaned so the beer tastes crisp. Sliders, fries and dogs should always be hot and fresh (seriously, how hard can that be?)... I can't tell you how many times I've gotten back to my seat, sliders in hand, only to be disappointed. I generally do not get the Nachos... but do they fill the bowls all the way yet?

The off ice stuff at this point is not a factor in me renewing or not renewing. I certainly didn't like it all when I heard about it, but I do have confidence that the coaches, athletic department, university etc will handle it properly. If it became ongoing, then it would become more of a factor in the decision making process.

Re: Boston University 2012 Offseason

The Detroit Red Wings have signed Max Nicastro to an entry level contract.

Re: Boston University 2012 Offseason

I'll renew (even though I've yet to do so) but I agree its getting harder to do so and I think they're starting to price themselves out. Especially given the product on and off the ice and the stagnant nature of the program.

Re: Boston University 2012 Offseason

BU/BC once again on a Sunday during football season. We could possibly be done with each other by December 1st, terrible.

Edit: Also odd that NU/BU is the 1st game for the Beanpot
