Re: Boston University 2012 Offseason

The best news is that Friday night games will now start at 7:30pm! Looks like BU and/or Hockey East listened to some feedback or noticed that Agganis was 3/4 empty at 7pm on Friday nights. In any case, good move.

What time will the beer stands be open?

Hasn't Aggains been 3/4 empty for pretty much all games the past couple of years?

On a separate note, two big thumbs down on the Sunday games. If is isn't going to be a fri or sat game I'd rather see thurs evening games.

Re: Boston University 2012 Offseason

As a Patriot season ticket holder also there are 3 games in conflict with Patriot games--The BC-UNH games at 5 come after a 1 PM Pats game

BU/BC once again on a Sunday during football season. We could possibly be done with each other by December 1st, terrible.

Edit: Also odd that NU/BU is the 1st game for the Beanpot

Why is that odd? Previous year's champ always plays the second game on the first night. This isn't like the HE tourney where the #1 seed plays first (usually).

Hmmm.... I thought Fed had determined that in the beanpot the early game was determined either by coin flip or by perceived attendance / rating implications.... looking back, in 2003 and 2004 we had the early game despite having won the year before....

That being said, if it is picked by ratings or attendance, it is surprising that Harvard ever would have the late game, if it picked by coin flip, not so much.... or is the winnner of the previous year plays the late game something that has been implemented more recently?

maybe it was done to increase attendance at the 5 pm game? BC-HU has to be an overall lower draw than BU-NU. Harvard has no fans and BC fans will probably just buy tickets to week 2 and assume they'll win.

Re: Boston University 2012 Offseason

The previous year's winner has its choice of starting time in the first round. It's as simple as that.

Re: Boston University 2012 Offseason

What I was told a couple years ago is that the late game is picked based on which is the better draw. If that is still true, then yes, Harvard in the late game is surprising. Maybe they just feel that the BC dynasty is now the best draw regardless of who they're playing.

BC being the late game suprised me but we have been the late game for the last 7(ish) Beanpots.

It's clear that Joey B thinks his alma mater is on the rise after their great run to the ECAC finals last year ;)

Unless it's BC-BU, that last game is always empty at the end like the beginning of the first game. I think it's all a wash when you consider the time slots. That late game can sometimes really start late if Game 1 goes into OT and even if it doesn't it's usually always starting a bit late.

I'd prefer they bump Game 1 down another 30 minutes or so to get Game 2 started earlier.

Re: Boston University 2012 Offseason

Last years Harvard seniors never played in a late game in the Beanpot. Perhaps whoever does the scheduling felt bad for them, and wanted to throw them a bone.

Does anyone recall another class never playing in the late game?

Re: Boston University 2012 Offseason

I"m pretty sure the approach to the timing of the games changed from "lat year's winner gets the late game" to whatever it is today. But I could be wrong.

One thing I know for sure - the opening round game times used to be 6 and 9. Now that made for some late nights at the old Garden.
