Boston University 2012-13 Season Thread -- Up To The Task?

Maguire starts tonight.

Have to say I'm a little surprised, but it makes sense. I hope he has a better game. O'Connor is off to a blazing start, so one more shaky start form Maguire could mean some serious pine time.

Can't see how this makes sense. How do you start a struggling freshman goalie on the road against the number 5 team in the country after not playing him against Umass? I don't doubt that Maguire can be good, I just question the timing to give him a chance to try to make up for his last game. I guess it'll give us a good excuse if we lose and if he plays well and we win, having two solid goalies makes us look like a pretty dangerous team. Good luck to Maguire tonight, I hope he doesn't need it.

Less pressure to play first game than second.

Re: Boston University 2012-13 Season Thread -- Up To The Task?

I went to the UND Blue Line Club Fan Luncheon this afternoon. The football coach spoke (they play tomorrow afternoon, indoors! I think I'll go!) and both Coach Parker and Coach Hakstol spoke. It was pretty funny. I got up to take a picture of Coach Parker at the podium and he he says " And I see one red and white person here!" And everyone turned to look. Heh. He was very funny and talked about the when they were planning for building Agganis and how he visited the Ralph and said how BU would build the second best arena in college hockey. He reminisced about the interlocking schedule when Hockey East was formed but how that stopped and how difficult it is to schedule OOC games, but next year we will have many OOC games and North Dakota will come to Agganis.

After he sat, the head of the Blue Line Club got up to introduce Coach Hakstol and said "You mentioned Mariucci. The only thing wrong with that place is the team the plays there." Bwah ha hah, then Coach Hakstol got up to reiterate that point, finds me in the crowd and said if I was wearing maroon and gold how I would be acting and I yelled back "I never wear maroon and gold!!!"

He then talked about the NCAA game in Worcester in 2004 and how after they won, Coach Parker walked over to their locker room and asked Hakstol if he could address the team and said that really meant a lot to him and the team that Parker did that. He also brought up the 1990 NCAA playoff series that we were all just talking about. It was a nice event. Glad I wore my red and white. :)

I feel like it would be the opposite. If the other guy wins the first game, you already got the split no matter what so a loss doesn't hurt too much. If he loses, you can't do worse.

Jack's intermission interview pretty insightful. Next year non-conference games include 2 vs nodak, Wisconsin, Mich and Mich st, and Cornell. Cool!

don't forget harvard!!!!

This team is fun to watch -- even if it's via a lousy TV feed. Looking forward to hearing the impressions of Scarlett and others who made the trip.

Good game Terriers. I hope we meet again.

WOW. I didn't see that coming. BU at times looked like they wouldn't be able to beat Sacred Heart. Passes off of skates, in ability to clear the zone for over a minute.....But I will take it.

So what was the deal with the booing of Privitera? Did they pick him just because Oksanen didn't dress? I have to admit, it was pretty sweet to see him thread that nice pass for the GWG while they were booing him.:D

A great series overall. UND is a great program - looking forward to seeing them in Boston next year.

So my previous post was meant for the game thread.

From a BU "Internal" perspective:

- great to see two freshmen getting the GWG and the icing on the cake. O'Regan is clearly ready for this level of hockey. To have the presence of mind to pull the puck wide with so little time to prepare on that insurance goal....well I think he's going to get a lot of points. And Lane is a hard worker who plays smart positionally. For him to get a goal when Parker was most likely just looking to keep the game tied...just awesome.
- O'Connor was once again very good in net. The first goal was a fluke, he made the right play, as a Sioux player was likely to get to that puck first - he had to get to that post. Oh well. And the second goal...well when you leave a career 150 point guy wide open in front of the net, he's going to score more often than not.
- Noonan had a tough night. I think Kristo was his man on that goal, and the diving penalty was a potentially huge momentum swing, given that BU was on a 5 on 3 at the time.
- I guess Parker agreed that Oksanen had a tough night last night, since he put MacGregor in tonight.
- And "4 points" Rosen gets a chance to at least bring home 2 ;-), with Moran sitting.
- Good to see Nieto come up big for the tying goal.
- I believe Hohmann's assist on the first goal gives him a point in every game, and matches his point total from last season.

A road split against the #5 team, in front of 10k fans...I'll take it.

Sheesh, I had to leave the game with 6 min left (losing 2-1) to put kids to bed. After a lengthy bedtime process, I come downstairs, and we've won 4-2! Crazy.

The fans were booing Privitera because on Friday night he hit a UND student in the face with his stick while sitting in the penalty box. The fan uploaded a photo of the aftermath and it's floating around the internet. I have yet to see it myself. He also squirted fans with a water bottle.

In the postgame interview Privitera admitted to both, but told the reporter that the water bottle thing was just between the two of them (another hockey beat writer overheard the interview).

ETA: Blogger Tim Boger writes about the incident and has quotes from said postgame interview: http://kellygreenwhite.wordpress.com...exx-privitera/

Besides Friday night's third period, I like what this young team brought to the table this weekend. They will only get better the more they play with each other. I am certainly more optimistic about this team and a refreshing change from last season.
