Boston University 2011-2012 Season Thread Part Deux

Re: Boston University 2011-2012 Season Thread Part Deux

I think the loss of Coyle is huge. A raw, but very good power forward that is just beginning to learn how to use his size and talent. Sure, the numbers aren't quite what we hoped for but there is more than just numbers and I think part of that is his age since more and more we have 17-18 year olds playing against 24-25 year olds. That is the same reason why I think it took so long for Trivino to score on a more regular basis.

The Pipeline Show @ThePipelineShow 8m Details
I just spoke with Charlie Coyle at the airport in Edmonton and can confirm his moving to Saint John in the #QMJHL audio on TPS tomorrow.

Seems like that's it. Should be a very interesting second half.

I'm surprised Minnesota didn't try and convince him more to move to Houston of the AHL.

I heard they were ok with either, but there is another top prospect for the Wild with Saint John in the QMJHL, so that may have been the reason why.

According to Coyle, his leaving BU for #QMJHL is not due to poor academics but just to focus 100% on hockey. Audio on TPS tomorrow AM

Re: Boston University 2011-2012 Season Thread Part Deux

Yea those first rounders are easy to replace! Dime a dozen. Sure.

Seriously Nick? He was a BUst of John Sabo and Gregg Johnson magnitude.

For what it's worth, Saint John does not have anything about him on their web page and INCH (the best source of college hockey information) doesn't either. Regardless, I have no problem believing that Coyle had academic issues. He went to BU, so he obviously wasn't too concerned with academics. He also left Thayer and went back to his public school, probably for academic reasons as well. And we all know what JackPa does to kids who take academics seriously...

This seems a bit self-contradictory, he doesn't leave because of poor academics, he's just leaving so he doesn't have to focus at all on academics. Confusing situation all around, but best of luck to him.

He went back to Weymouth high so he could come to BU a year earlier. He would have been a Junior at Thayer, but a senior at Weymouth.

Is there really anything concrete to all of these Coyle rumors? Sounds to me like anyone who would know is either saying nothing or denying it.
Just sayin...

Eagle tribune guy has a retweet of someone who spoke to coyle just now. Says he confirmed going to the qmjhl.

I still think he is lying

If this is the case (I don't believe him), it's a bush league move by him to abandon his teammates in the middle of a season.

I know. BC was doomed when Pennault didn't pan out.

Well, except Pineault was a 4th line player/healthy scratch in his one year at BC. And he wasn't drafted until the 2nd round, #46 overall. Besides that, great comparison!

Sabo and Johnson played 4 years and stunk. Neither had the ceiling that this kid has. Coyle was 3 semesters in.

Guys are capable of just blowing up after Christmas. We saw it with a guy like Benn Ferriero. I think he scored 16 goals after Christmas or something like that. We've seen a lot of guys play phenomenal hockey coming back from the WJC.

There's no telling what he would have done. Either way, they're replacing him with an even worse player. Every line just got worse as mookie just pointed out.

You just can't compare a 3 semester bust (Coyle) with a 4 year bust (Sabo).

Exactly... I think we are going to miss the potential breakout more than the production from the first sememster. Plus the trickle down to the 3rd, 4th lines.

Agree.

ALRIGHT

If anybody has anything else to tell us... out with it, now.

Parker retiring?
Kieran secretly injured?
Kraus coming back?
Kevin Gilroy not really related to Matt?
Ben Rosen not actually jewish?
Cisse not actually an awesome name?
Refs no longer on our side?

I want to know. Now please.

We've got different definitions on what constitutes "very good". They way I see it, he scored 20 something point last year and would score the same amount this year. That's mediocre in my book. Maybe he goes nuts in his senior year but its as likely he regresses also. This team needs more guys banging in 20+ goals and 40-50 points if its going to be successful.

I think that happens more often at BC than it does over here....:(

Agreed. It's one thing if you can't cut it academically with hockey at the same time. At least you gave it a shot. But abandoning the team (which was/(is?) a contender is a scummy move.
