Boston University 2010 Offseason I - The Year after the Year after effect

Re: Boston University 2010 Offseason I - The Year after the Year after effect

So which came first in OT--O'Sullivan's crossbar or McEachern's shot off the post that ran along the goal line?

It's the same play! O'Sullivan rang one of the left pipe on an awesome outside/in move and McEachern hits the same pipe on the rebound and the puck moves right along the goal line, is almost knocked in by a NMU defenseman, and Billy Pye covers it. Mercy.

It's amazing how little I remember about this game (I was there.) I remember McEachern's post to almost-post shot like it was yesterday, but forgot that O'Sullivan hit the post to start it all.

As mentioned, the effort LaChance made to get the puck to Dave Sacco was tremendous, but Sacco's shot was a week little flip. Billy Pye was in Minneapolis he was so out of position.

Bust on Colby all you want, but let's not forget who scored the winning goal in OT last year.

I mean, I'll never forget that play, and I'm glad he shot the puck, but it's not exactly like he picked a corner, now is it? Some goals are clutch and examples of pure skill (see, Gilroy to Bonino), some goals are a product of luck (see, Tyson Teplitsky, 2003 Hockey East final), I know where Colby's goal fits in.

And for me, that lucky moment alone isn't enough to offset how infuriating he was in his three years. I hope the kid turns it around, but I think he's gonna have a wake-up call to deal with in professional hockey.

Thanks, Bomber. I watched the game back in '91 and watched a tape of it a number of years ago, but couldn't recall the sequence. Had to be among the closest to a championship without winning.

Federal League's story about greatest FF moments on the NESN site lists the '91 NC game 3rd. The DC Miracle, of course, ranks first.

More Av-BU-lanche news--Yip returned to the lineup last night (with my niece in attendence). Avs have no games left with the Ducks, having played the last one on Wednesday.

I've been trying to tell the BU fans for years that McEachern's shot didn't hit both posts, now Bomber knows what I mean.

There were many remarkable goals in that game. One that few recall was Dave Tomlinson's goal that made it 6-4 NMU. Since NMU then went up 7-4, it's not thought of as one of the "comeback" goals the way Amonte's, McEachern's, and Sacco's goals are. While being pretty violently tripped, Sniper unleashes a shot that goes five-hole on Billy Pye. What I love about it is that as he starts his shot, Pye's pads are completely together. But as he completes his shot, Pye splits the pads ever so slightly, and the uck sneaks through.

Yikes. I threw everyone together, little regard for left vs. right shot at this point, anyone else can feel free to make edits. :D

Yikes.

I hope Clendening comes, and Parker has someone else waiting in the wings. Otherwise we are in serious trouble.

Talk about a young line-up. 3 seniors, only one who plays. Crazy, considering how many we had in that class (and how good that class was!)

Forgot about Santana.

File this under "educated guess" ;)

Pereira - Trivino - Vin. Saponari
Connolly - Megan - Chiasson
Gill - Nieto - Coyle
Glass - Gaudet - Gilroy (if this happens, it will henceforth be known as "The 3G Line")
Courtnall - Vic. Saponari - Santana

Warsofsky - Nicastro
Escobedo - Clendening
Rosen - Ruikka

Millan
Rollheiser
Kraus

Solid lines though I'd rather see Nieto switching places with Pereira (Coyle centering that line). I think we saw Joey's offensive ceiling this year, so I'd rather see him on a third line role where he's expected to produce a little bit offensively, but is more valuable as a checker. Nieto with either Trivino or Megan on the second line. We need to try and get some more goals from our forwards and I'd like to see a kid like Nieto up there from the jump.

Definitely agree with you putting Clendening up with Escobedo, and I expect Santana will have a bit of an edge on Gilroy for that fourth line spot going into the season.

Random question about the BU-Maine game.

So the "playoff beard" was scrapped.... but was Zach Cohen really sporting a FU Manchu?

I was just amazed at the facial hair that was going on.

I've said it before and I'll say it again. Shattenkirk should NEVER try and grow a mustache.

Honestly, I think that's true of most guys. Very few guys can pull it off without looking like idiots. Especially guys in their teens/twenties!

I think they know they look like idiots. Did you see Vinny and Connolly? If I were on the hockey team, I'd totally grow the most ridiculous mustache I could, regardless of how stupid it made me look. In fact, I could probably be talked into doing that anyway. Facial hair like that can be justified in two words: "It's college."

To be fair, if Popko was a leisure suit away from looking like the baddest MFer on the planet.

Anyone have photos of the horrifically awesome display during that game?

I don't know, Merrimack had some awesome beards.

FL: the 2008 Chicago Wolves had a slogan: Fear the Stache. They all grew ridiculous moustaches for their Calder Cup run...

Ouch, sorry Santana, guess I pasted over him by accident.
As far as the D pairs, something about Rosen and Ruikka together scares me, but we're going to have 2 guys who haven't played a college hockey minute and Rosen who hasn't played much at all, so the bottom 2 pairs aren't going to look pretty no matter what.

I agree, but Jack always seems reluctant to start freshmen on the first line and often starts them out together. He'll give Pereira a first or second line role, but the freshmen will definitely need to contribute for this team to have success, so they might be moved around as the season unfolds.
