Re: Boston University 2010-11 part II - The Hunt For Red November

Where to begin...(I purposefully have not read any write-ups yet, want to give my uninfluenced impressions)

- save for the 1994 pasting at the hands of LSSU, I can't recall a "good" BU team looking so inept. It honestly seemed as though either a) 4 years of player development were taken away from every player on the team or b) the whole team had been drugged. Just terrible decisions, inability to catch a pass much less make one, players falling down for no apparent reason (I swear Escobedo fell on his butt four times by his own doing). To call it frustrating would be a major understatement. It almost got to the point that rather than be upset at the team, I was feeling sorry for them.
- Joe Pereira should be in the stands tonight. I am sick of players taking penalties in the first minute or two of a game. Then he took at least two more, and they always seemed to be right as BU was gaining momentum. That is inexcusable for the captain, and he needs to take a seat for a night to think about it. And his goal doesn't sway me. Sahir's stick was two inches behind his and would have put that goal in if Joe hadn't.
- I think if Parker had a JV team to pick from, that is the team we would se tonight. He'd sit everyone.
- The team misses Connolly, Do they ever.
- Needless to say, BC looked awesome (well, other than Muse).
- What a wasted opportunity- that arena was hopping iike I haven't seen in some time. At least until the puck dropped. I told Scarlet before the game that I hoped there were some recruits on hand. I withdraw that statement.
- I'd say the Escobedo cough up was a good summary of the whole night. You expect to see that kind of play from Mites and Squirts, not from D-1 college players.
- It's been a few games since I have seen this team play. Coyle didn't seem to have much mojo tonight.

Boy oh boy that was some asz-kicking. Boys vs. men out there.

Then there were the refs, who were neither. It's almost as though they decided to literally 'insert themselves into the game' like we expect sports officials not to do.

I thought Coyle looked pretty good out there actually. He might be the only guy that gave me a good impression last night from BU.

Hey Everyone,

For those who haven't seen the video from last night, here's Josh Provost's postgame clips with Jack, Jerry and Cam Atkinson

Re: Boston University 2010-11 part II - The Hunt For Red November

Thanks for the recap defkit. This is the kind of stuff that is severely lacking around here of late. Especially when I miss the game.

Re: Boston University 2010-11 part II - The Hunt For Red November

BU has some good young players, but they just can't match BC's talent AND experience this year. With BC looking at heavy losses to the pros next year, they should enjoy it while they can, because it could be a lot different story next year!

Re: Boston University 2010-11 part II - The Hunt For Red November

To FL, in regards to the question at the end of your live blog last night, it was not the first penalty shot at Agganis. UNH had one a few years back in their 7-4 win over BU (I think during the Bennett year). I don't know if there were any others, none jump out of my head, but I'm positive of that one.

Re: Boston University 2010-11 part II - The Hunt For Red November

One man's opinions...

By my observation, I didn't see one BC player pay the price for carrying the puck in the Grade A area or behind the net. I mean a clean check (shoulder to sternum) that makes a player think twice, not a slash, hook, etc. Of course, you have to be able to catch up to the guy before you can hit him, which wasn't in the cards last night. Also, BU didn't get the puck in front of the BC net once during the first two periods. I'll qualify my comments by stating that these things may have happened and I didn't see them since I had my face buried in my hands fairly often last night.

Major agreement on all points, especially the ones in bold. Those were exact things I said to my people during the game.

Close. Iirc, It Was 2006, when unh broke bu's 10-game streak. Right after the beanpot

Re: Boston University 2010-11 part II - The Hunt For Red November

Here's a question, as Gibbons was sailing in on his penalty shot, on a scale of 1 - 10 (1 being no chance, 10 being a certainty), how did you rate his chance of scoring. Me? 9.999999999.

Re: Boston University 2010-11 part II - The Hunt For Red November

I'll tell you the real reason we lost last night, Harry was angrily looking down from the heavens last night and sending bad karma our way because his pre-game video was pre-empted in its usual spot by some dopey interview with the Deputy AD or something talking about his favorite basketball player or something. PLAY HARRY'S VIDEO.

well bu, as a team, had no answer for the speed of the Eagles, and as such, defensively really had no chance. but i agree with carmine that coyle was one of the more dangerous forwards out there offensively - he is lean, as you would expect. but he manages to use his size well. i'll also add in pereira, who despite his penalties, had a nose for the puck and was always a threat to score. whereas, i came away disappointed in gill (poor skater) and the milk-man trivino, who had decent hockey sense and always seemed to be in close proximity to the puck but accomplished nothing.

That's always been the knock on Trivino. While he's been hampered a bit by injuries in his first two seasons, he's always been the kind of guy who makes you think if he put in a bit more effort he'd be a solid college player. He's got skill, generally positions himself well, but seems to take lots of weak shots, sometimes half-asses it, and can be frustrating at times.

Great point Steve and slurpees. I have no confidence that he is going to make something happen once he gets inside the blue line.

I will say that Nieto did show me a little something. He ahs always shown speed, but I think he is starting to combine it with other factors (sense, positioning) better. Hopefully his goal was a sign of things to come.

Agreed 100%. This rivalry swings back and forth all the time, and as true fans we're all in it for the long haul.

I think Jerry seems to consistently get more from his kids though.

Re: Boston University 2010-11 part II - The Hunt For Red November

I'm a Brown fan, but BU has always been my secondary team.

After attending Brown-RPI this afternoon and watching BU-BC on TV tonight, I noticed a lot of parallels between my two favorite teams from this weekend:

-Both teams are very young and, as a result, were often sloppy or careless
-Both teams shot themselves in the foot CONSTANTLY
-Both teams were awful on the PP this weekend (which, as I understand it, is normal for this BU team, but quite the contrary for my Bears)
-Both teams often left their goalies out to dry, but at the same time, the goalies let in some goals that made you shake your head. Also, Millan plays WAY too far out of the net when the puck is in his zone
-Both teams may have read too much into their rankings (BU at #2 and Brown garnering tons of national attention and a host of votes) and didn't show up ready to play ranked opponents. Though the Brown-Union game last night was close and we held a 2-0 lead in the 1st, it was, until today, the worst I had seen us play all year. Today's game took the cake by a mile.

Parker's and Whittet's teams should be ready to skate in practice this week. Brown in particular needs to inject some focus and discipline into the team, as we face Providence in the always-heated (on the ice; not so much in the stands) Mayor's Cup this Tuesday. Hopefully both teams can come back from disappointing and frankly abominable weekends. They both have talent (obviously this is more true for BU than for Brown), but seemed to be shaky and unmotivated at times.

I look forward to our rematch next month in Illinois, and I'll be pulling for BU in every game from here on out except that one.

Re: Boston University 2010-11 part II - The Hunt For Red November

Agreed on the York point.....though BU players did alright in 2009.
