Re: Boston University 2009-2010 Season Thread III: From the Beanpot until the end...

Not sure how the math works out that way, but I trust that thread.

Because lowell plays uvm. If we lose, either lowell jumps to 27 points and cannot be caught, uvm jumps to 26 points and we can only tie (and lose tb) or both jump to 26/25 respectively and we cannot catch the winner of game #2, and could only end in a 3 way tie for if they tied. i believe it is also true that we cannot play northeastern in the quarters, and i just looked at some scenarios, and cannot see one where we finish 3-6 or 4-5.

I haven't gone through all the scenarios either, but I'm pretty sure this is true. Just fooling around briefly, I can't get anything closer than 4-7.

Edit: Slow night at work + SiouxSports what-if calculator is a bad combo. I just realized that if BU-NU is a split, UML-UVM is a split and MC takes 3 pts from PC, there will be a 4-way tie for 5th between BU, NU, UVM and MC. This conference is stupid.

Edit No. 2: And if UMass sweeps Maine, that makes it a 5-way tie for 5th. Hahahahahaha.

Edit No. 3: I believe in this 5-way tie scenario, NU would end up as the 5th seed, MC as the 6th, UVM as the 7th, BU as the 8th and UMass as the 9th.

I will be so ****ed if BU has to go to Orono. BC or Lowell, fine (I don't think there's any way BU can end up at NU). I wouldn't even mind going back to Burlington. But for the love of God, please do not send me to Orono. It's forever far away, there's nothing to do there, I have to sit on crappy and uncomfortable bar stools in the press box, and I still can't see anything whenever the fans stand (which is like every time there's a Maine rush up ice). Plus, I'd have to get a hotel room because I don't know anyone at UMaine, and I'm broke. Alright, rant over. And yes, I realize I probably just jinxed us.

Burlington would be the worst for me, it's the only place I'd end up having to pay for a room. If it does end up being Orono get in touch with me, I probably wont be able to help with transportation, but there is a good chance I could help you with a free bed (or floor depending on how many of you Freep'ers there are) less than 5 minutes from the rink.

This may have been written in some form or another but from the "glass half empty" files (according to what i"m looking at):
NU sweeps BU
UMass gets 3+ points
Mack gets 2+ points
Season over....no home or away ice

Re: Boston University 2009-2010 Season Thread III: From the Beanpot until the end...

Well, after a solid hour of fooling around with the what-if calculator, I've come to the conclusion that trying to predict anything right now is absolutely pointless. Using what I consider realistic possibilities (like UMass sweeping Maine doesn't seem realistic and PC sweeping MC doesn't seem realistic), I come up with pretty much even chances for all of the following QF matchups:
@UNH
@BC
@Maine
@UML
vs. UML

I also come up with a couple scenarios where BU hosts MC or UVM, but it doesn't seem quite as likely as those other 5 scenarios. BU missing the playoffs doesn't seem too likely either. Neither does BU getting the 3 seed. And, good news for Agganis, neither does BU traveling to UVM.

just win baby.

Re: Boston University 2009-2010 Season Thread III: From the Beanpot until the end...

I can't do math, but what I've come up with is:

BU will get home ice as long as they sweep the weekend, UML and Vermont get into a fight over which place is a worse place to live (Vermont or Merrimack Valley), Maine takes the weekend off to go ice fishing, Amherst quits, BC drops their hockey program in favor of academics, the sun rises at 6:42 a.m. on Saturday and Matt Gilroy eats an 8 egg omelet on Friday.

I think our chances are pretty good!

Re: Boston University 2009-2010 Season Thread III: From the Beanpot until the end...

What is the difference if they get home ice? With the inconsistency this team has shown, do you really think they have a chance at getting anywhere past the quarterfinals? Once it is one-and-done, I honestly don't see them with a shot.

Running the HE table would be the point where I go 'half-empty'. I think they can make the garden, and could possibly beat somebody to get to the final but they haven't shown the consistency in net nor the rest of the ice to win the whole thing.

I guess Trivino was that important;)

Re: Boston University 2009-2010 Season Thread III: From the Beanpot until the end...

I'm mostly likely going to see this team in person for the last time on Friday. Last year, I saw them NINE more times after the regular season finale. :eek:

BU Hockey: Underachievers

Re: Boston University 2009-2010 Season Thread III: From the Beanpot until the end...

maybe whoever is creating the next thread should just name it the offseason thread :(

I don't know about that, a sweep by UVM of UML and 3 points for BU is all it takes I think.

UVM has played well the last two weekends with the worst game being Sunday against BU. I thought BU played really well Sunday and could take 3 points from NU. Its not that far of a stretch. Maybe not the most likely scenario, but not really out there.

Re: Boston University 2009-2010 Season Thread III: From the Beanpot until the end...

Not many saw UVM sweeping us either...

Re: Boston University 2009-2010 Season Thread III: From the Beanpot until the end...

And let's not forget (I think) only two of the four home teams made it to the garden last year (BU and NU?)...

I just got an email from Agganis... The subject read:

"Terrier Men's Ice Hockey vs. Providence this Saturday - Senior Night"

As far as I know they only got two things wrong there... pretty good, eh?

At first I though maybe they just sent out the same email as last year and never bothered to update it. Then I remembered that last year it was Senior Day on a Sunday, so it couldn't have been that. I'd really love to know how this got screwed up this badly.

At first I thought they used the same email as last week, but why would they add "Senior Day" without changing the rest of the title? :confused:

I was really hoping we wouldn't have to play PC again... they seem to have our number.

To make this whole thing even weirder I got only one email from them today, and it has the correct time, date, and opponent.
