Re: Boston University 2009-2010 Season Thread III: From the Beanpot until the end...

*sigh* He really looked in pain when trying to get off the ice. That sucks. I thought that line was playing really well of late. Will they keep Megan on that line? He filled in the rest of the third period on that line. Or will Gilroy or Glass get the chance?

Not good...Hope he has a speedy and full recovery...

Aside from Megan, perhaps Connolly gets moved up to center the 1st line. In that case - Glass or KG will back fill for Connolly as 3rd line LW.

We'll obviously be asking Parker about all this stuff when we talk to him later today. My personal guess would be this:
Connolly - Bonino - Saponari
Cohen - Megan - Chiasson
Gaudet - Popko - Pereira
Courtnall - Santana - Gilroy

Again, just a guess, though. I've gotten the sense that Parker's wanted to get Bonino back with Connolly and Saponari all along, but just wanted to send them the message that they have to work harder when they're playing with Nick.

about how many minutes per game was Trivino playing? does any site track those stats? it looks like USCHO does not.

I think the BU stats people keep track of it, but they definitely don't make it public anywhere. I'd guess that Trivino was getting about 17-18 minutes a game.

And Saponari hasn't really gotten the message completely yet. With the way Gaudet was playing, I don't think he'll get bumped from Bonino's wing, either. I think Connolly takes over Trivino's spot and Gilroy/Victor(/Glass?) fills in (as FOBUH said). Bonino's line would probably become the 1st, though.

Connolly was clearly uncomfortable at center earlier this season. I'd be pretty surprised if Parker tried that experiment again. Connolly's been playing very well this semester -- Parker has mentioned a couple times that he's back to being the pest to play against that he was last year. At center, though, he almost looks lost. I think it's more likely Parker moves either Gaudet or Santana to the middle since they've played center quite a bit in the past.

True, but half our team looked uncomfortable earlier in the season, even at their natural positions, so I wouldn't draw too many conclusions from that. Connolly is versatile enough to play center and can handle the defensive responsibilties. I like how Gaudet's been going to the net but I don't see that happening as much is he's working from the center position. Santana centering is possible, I haven't seen any of him there to tell.

How long does it take this sort of injury to heal, and looking in the long long term, what are the chances of repeat injuries?

It completely depends on the degree of the fracture. Fracture is such a general term - it could mean the bone broke completely (unlikely... I would think he would have known that immediately and would not have even been able to skate off the ice), or it could just be a hairline or greenstick fracture, which has a much faster recovery time.

Usually bones heal completely and are stronger in the broken area, the chance of a repeat/nagging injury is much lower than muscle, ligament, joint injuries.

Just conjecture, but I'd expect that, given recent success, Jack will limit the lineup shuffling and keep two of the top three lines intact. Moving Popko to the Cohen/Chiasson line does that and also keep it a strong defensive line, which was its key role vs. Maine (holding Nyquist to no shots on Friday).

I rarely post on USCHO. I really just like to read the forums but this kid Alex, is ruining the forum for me and everyone else. I looked at the article about the supposed heart condition and half the article is plagiarized from Wikipedia.

Then I searched facebook and found an Alex Greer that goes to BU and on his public profile he put his high school. I looked up his HS with his name on google. I found it's a HS from CA and he posted on berecrutied.com, to have coaches look at him. Also the school only has a rollerblade team since it's in CA.

Hey Alex, it sucks everyone has dreams. BU is a D1 hockey program, only a handful of players ever are true walk-ons. I got cut from my HS baseball team and didn't post on baseball websites thinking I could walk on to Florida State. I faced reality. If you are going to post stuff here about yourself, take your public profiles into account.

By the way, looking all the information about him, took about three minutes. If that. I will now go back to reading the forums.

It would keep it a strong defensive line, and keeping the lines intact as much as possible was a criteria I was contemplating as well, but Zach and Chiasson have been able to contribute offensively and I can't help but think that Popko might hold them back significantly. At the same time, maybe playing with them will bring back the agressive forecheck that I expect from him and that will open up some opportunities. The two wings are big bodies, which is why I originally thought Connolly could slide in nicely.

Well to be fair, they did add ice hockey in 2007 (I looked it up as well): http://www.sanjosesharksblog.com/post.php?id=17

Couldn't find any game reports with this guys stats though. You're right, it's over Alex. Go join the club team.

For what it's worth, I contacted this Alex Greer over a week ago, identified myself as a Daily Free Press reporter interested in his story, and never heard back.

Hyperbole much? I thought it was rather enjoyable actually:)

Makes it easier to have the program record in statistical categories.

Well duh, he has an exclusive deal with Claire Antioch, he feels her complete butchering of the English language adds intrigue to his story.

Who interstingly enough doesn't seem to exist. No one in the BU directory named Antioch.

EDIT: Seems she's moved on to factual articles, two about NHL trades. Oh well.
