Boston University 2009-2010 Season Thread II: Still got a pulse, time for CPR

Re: Boston University 2009-2010 Season Thread II: Still got a pulse, time for CPR

The part of last nights game that bothers me the most is that three of UNH's goals were a result of blown line changes. Goal 2 was scored 13 seconds after a BU PP ended but the 5th skater had just crossed the blue line at the time the goal was scored. The box and the bench are right next to each other, what took so long to go from one to the other and then have a second player join the play? UNH's 3rd goal was 9 seconds after a BU PP ended and the entire PP unit (with Colby still at forward and Crisco at the point) and the two never switched to their natural positions and the unit as a whole didn't look ready to defend. And of course the 4th goal was a result of a Too Many Men call. To give up 3 goals because of brainfarts and miscommunication like that, especially to the #1 team in the conference is painful.

Re: Boston University 2009-2010 Season Thread II: Still got a pulse, time for CPR

Maybe it's because I haven't seen them live since December, but I thought the effort wasn't bad. UNH is just a better team. *shrug*

The goalie let in two he shouldn't have. I know it sounds like classic baseball second guessing, but after the way Millan played Friday night, I didn't like the move. Millan looked like he was finally getting his mojo back.

Foster played a great game. He made a # of Grade A saves. I know BU has been making a lot of goalies look good this year, but this was a legit quality performance.

For the most part I'm with Bomber here, and I've seen all the games since the break. The only thing I'm not really willing to concede is calling UNH clearly the better team. I was a little suprised to hear how irrate JP was in the press conference about the teams effort. UNH clearly took away the strength of the power play which at this point I think we can all agree is Cohen bombing from the point. Other than that, didn't we have as many if not more grade A scoring chances? Just seems like they've had about a half dozen games where they've been snake bit this year. Last year, I recall JP referring to "puck luck" time and time again in speaking of wins. Doesn't it work both ways? Maybe it's just time I take off the rose colored glasses...

Maybe I should start posting grade-A's after every game? Seems like there's been a lot of talk about them lately. Anyway, here's the grade-A breakdown for the UNH game:

BU: 20 chances, 14 on net, 1 goal
UNH: 14 chances, 12 on net, 2 goals

As I explained to Agganis before Saturday's game, counting up the grade-A's is a very inexact science. If someone else looked at the shot chart, they might come up with a different total. Just so everyone understands how I do it, though -- I draw a line from where the crease meets the goal line out to the faceoff dot, then across to the other faceoff dot, and then back to where the other side of the crease meets the goal line. Any shot attempt that falls within that trapezoid (I think that's what that shape's called -- I'm in COM, though) is a grade-A.

And as for your rep, Nick P, I had honestly never heard it called the shot glass. I've played hockey my whole life, so yes, I do "know much about hockey." I had just never heard that term to describe that area.

Also, you're right- ideally, it would only be uncovered shots. But we don't get that info on the shot chart, and I'm doing way too many other things during the game to count them myself. Like I said in my previous post- an inexact science.

Re: Boston University 2009-2010 Season Thread II: Still got a pulse, time for CPR

I'm seeing the terms "snake bitten" and "puck luck" being used way too much this year. Players need to create their own luck, and that starts with 1) shooting the puck, and 2) getting it on net.

It amazes me how often they miss one timers in front of the net. They miss from the face off circle, from the blue line, from the freakin crease. Not sure if shooting drills are part of practice but they sure as hell need to be.

Wow some pretty harsh words from Parker in the post-game. here we thought the leadership had turned it around....

Thanks for the kind words, but we have so much room for improvement this year it isn't even funny.

Maybe so, but take pride in the fact that that may not be your 'A' game, but the student fans/band at Agganis are still head and shoulders above anywhere else in Hockey East.

In all honesty, leadership starts with the coach.

You have to laugh a bit at the BU and BC seasons so far. BC can't get up for the big games against BU and BU can only get up for BC.

On a side note, it was nice to see Scarlet and shrader for the first time in a long time (April in DC?).

It is certainly nice to hear you, as an (apparently) unbiased fan, say that. However, I still do not want to have just the best student section in Hockey East, as lets face it how many other even above average student sections are there in the conference, Maine and NU, then maybe BC and UNH on a good day (UNH seemed to have a much larger participation this year than last year in the BU games, FWIW). Instead I want to be as good as we can, and based on past years the bar has been set pretty high and, IMO we have not reached that bar yet this season.

Re: Boston University 2009-2010 Season Thread II: Still got a pulse, time for CPR

The national championship banners are right in front of you, no? HE Championships are above 118, all the HE teams are on the right side of the ice when you walk in, the ECAC Championships and Beanpots are on the left side, and the Hobey Baker banner, national championships, Travis Roy and Harry Agganis are above 108. I've been paying a lot of attention to banners this year, so I'm fairly certain about this.

Not to spend too much time on this minor issue but ... you enter the arena on the side near Sec. 108. From there, you have a nice view right away of the HE banners across the rink. I think that would be a good spot for the Nat'l championship banners.

Also, anyone looking for a quick chuckle should visit the thread discussing the article in which LA Kings' GM Dean Lombardi is quoted taking verbal shots at Red Berenson. While the UM fans are all over Lombardi for dissing a college hockey legend and college hockey in general, apparently there is at least one program that he likes:

Michigan is the worst." continued Lombardi. "For hockey people, if you've got a choice between a kid - all things being equal - one's going to Michigan and one's going to Boston University, you all want your player [going to Boston University]."

This... but it is nice to know someone likes us.

The NC banners will stay over 108 so I can stare at them all the time. :p

Wow. And Michigan has turned out a lot of solid pro's. One of my favs is now on my favorite NHL team. Good ink for BU.

Speaking of JP's postgame comments, I wonder if Monday was a "practice without pucks".

Are there still Beanpot tickets on sale at BU?

Re: Boston University 2009-2010 Season Thread II: Still got a pulse, time for CPR

Maybe a new thread before the beanpot will bring some luck...
