Re: Boston University 2009-2010 Season Thread II: Still got a pulse, time for CPR

Great start to the new year for the Terriers. I'm afraid that BU will soon be leaving my Friars behind in the HE cellar if this keeps up. :( ;)

BTW Scoring a short handed goal on a 6 on 3 disadvantage to ice the game is just showing off!!! :p

Re: Boston University 2009-2010 Season Thread II: Still got a pulse, time for CPR

Apparently no one paid any attention to the mentions of the 4pm start time given that there is no score update thread for this game.

And I do see Barry Melrose! I didn't think he did regular season games. We should all feel so lucky that he's here! :)

I knew what time the game started, but my parents decided to stop by last minute and by then the Terriers were playing decently so I didn't want to ruin a good thing. :D

Re: Boston University 2009-2010 Season Thread II: Still got a pulse, time for CPR

But why not Saturday afternoon? Games at 11:00 and 2:30?

The shadows are going to be very interesting ... we were talking about that while watching the Bruins game.

That would make far too much sense. There might be a limit on how long they want to keep the rink up, though.

As far as the shadows, we've already played a game in MSG, advantage BU! :p

13 penalties (4 from Gaudet, ouch) is far far far too many, lucky to come out of there with a win. Still like the scoring increase, a good start was all I could ask for, and the Gryba goal (SHG at that :D) was icing (punny!) on the cake.

at $10large/hr they would gladly keep it up until march.

and gryba's shortie was pudding, not icing. pudding. :p

Pudding and gravy aren't as funny though! Don't you get it, i was like icing the puck except we were shorthanded and it went in the net, and it iced the game away and it was like icing on a cake and, and, and... Meh, I give up.

Can some of you weigh in on Zach Cohen comparisons on other BU teams based on his last 2 years. Unheralded but big contributer, clutch in big games, not super skilled, etc. You know the profile.

I am thinking Kenny Rausch, Prendergast, Matt Marden, MacGregor, amongst others.

oh my, i read "kenny roche" and almost spit up my drink.

lesson learned - don't read quickly & don't read and scroll with your right hand while drinking with your left.

Re: Boston University 2009-2010 Season Thread II: Still got a pulse, time for CPR

Nice game by BU. Lots of penalties but a few of them were phantom calls. I liked the effort though. They also set up the offense much better and only make a handful of stupid plays on D. Not sure if this is the effect of Parker blasting the team in the Friend of Hockey letter, but with play like this they ought to get out of the basement. :( :o

Cohen - Rausch is a decent comparison, sorta like Colby Cohen - Tom Morrow:D

Re: Boston University 2009-2010 Season Thread II: Still got a pulse, time for CPR

Honestly, tonight I was more impressed by the hustle than the actual win. They played like they cared, something that I haven't really seen this season. Keep it up, guys!

Re: Boston University 2009-2010 Season Thread II: Still got a pulse, time for CPR

Good effort and nice to get a win. Poor Gaudet...4 penalties. I was livid at Gryba for taking the penalty when we were up 3-1 and had a power play. Sure enough, after Gaudet makes it a 5-3 they score to make it 3-2, and I started saying "here we go again". There were times in the game (mostly early on) when the team couldn't pass the puck to save their lives. It was almost comical. Unobstructed, no pressure pass goes five feet off the mark and UMass picks it up and comes the other way. AARGH!

Melrose kept calling them the Cohen brothers, even after he was told they weren't. Otherwise he did all right. He was harping on UMass quite a bit.

Just watched BC cough up a 2 goal lead to Denver and lose. Not sure that's a good thing, as they will be looking to right the ship after losing 2 out there.

Incredible how weak Hockey East has been this year following last year which was arguably HEA's strongest year since 1999. Of course, BU has unfortunately played a hand in that. I don't think there is one HEA team that is a serious contender for the national title this year.

The penalty by Gryba was a hit one second after the guy lost the puck. That's a perfectly legal check. Not mad at Gryba for that one bit. The one earlier was bad though.

Gaudet man, keep your stick on the ice!

Re: Boston University 2009-2010 Season Thread II: Still got a pulse, time for CPR

Gryba was awesome today. He was playing just about as angry as I've seen him play ever, which is saying a lot. It looked like he was trying to kill someone with every hit, and only one of them (the elbow, which wasn't dirty, but he did hit the guy in the head so I understood the call) was really borderline to me.

Add to that Colby Cohen playing easily his best game of the year (and I say that with no regard for his points...those were bonuses to me), and Warsofsky being an upgrade over Rosen and maybe, just maybe that defense we thought would be such a strength will finally start living up to expectations.

There was some sloppy play, understandable in their first game in a few weeks, but the effort was there throughout and there was a lot better play than we've seen at basically any time. I don't think they can climb out of the hole they dug, but if they play like this the rest of the way I'll at least have respect for how they've worked.

Re: Boston University 2009-2010 Season Thread II: Still got a pulse, time for CPR

Even the earlier penalty on Gryba was borderline, and more of a case of Gryba being tall and the guy ducking than any fault on Gryba's part.

Re: Boston University 2009-2010 Season Thread II: Still got a pulse, time for CPR

Good start to second half.

Strong play from senior class with Cohen, Gryba and Popko all showing leadership, grit and strong play.

Forwards played with effort both ways. Great to see traffic in front of U Mass net all game.

Defense made none of the glaring errors seen regularly in the first half although Shatty's outlet passes were scary at times.

Kieran looked strong in the net without to much pressure.

Penalties a concdern but many seemed borderline calls or just plain bad calls.

The post game skate was fun as well.

Good start to January and can't wait to freeze my a** at Fenway!

Re: Boston University 2009-2010 Season Thread II: Still got a pulse, time for CPR

I'm glad to see Jack did exactly what I would have done after the RPI debacle. "GET THE HELL OUT OF HERE! I DON'T WANT TO SEE YOU UNTIL AFTER CHRISTMAS!" Looks like it worked. :)

The Cohen brothers had it going on. ;) Colby sure can shoot.

Gryba was a beast and Melrose has a serious man crush on him. :)

I love that Rhett slayed the Eagles out in Denver. :) (One of the better 3rd periods of hockey I've watched in a long time. Those two teams are so ahead of BU right now it's depressing.)

BU Hockey: Time to Pull Out the Touques!

EDIT TO ADD: Milan is a major concern to me. He still doesn't look right. This team may need to sore 7 a lot in the 2nd half if they want to win.

Seriously, why Dan whatshisname didn't correct Melrose immediately is beyond me. Both of Colby goals came from the exact same spot.

Yeah, he was all about The Gryba!

That made me giggle too. What are the odds???

That's OK by me!

he said later he knew they weren't brothers.... now whether or not somebody unmisremembered for him or not,  :p

Re: Boston University 2009-2010 Season Thread II: Still got a pulse, time for CPR

just curious, is Barry Melrose the only person who calls Jack Parker "Jackie Parker"?

I assume at some point that must have been a nickname for him, but I don't think I've ever heard anyone except Melrose and a few other national announcers use "Jackie" instead of "Jack." Is this a holdover from the 70s?
