Boston College Women's Hockey 2018-2019: NO COMMERCIALS, NO MERCY

BC's 3rd goal was gorgeous with a beautiful move at the point to take advantage of the UNH defender's dopey attempt at, well, defending...and then the pass to Keller in the slot for the blast to pay dirt.
Oh yeah, that one was my favorite

Not to discredit BC but several of these goals were assisted by some hopelessly ****ty goaltending.
Yes indeed. Though I'm not sure you see too many 7 goal efforts that don't have at least some help from the goalie

I highly recommend watching BC's post game press conference with Megan Keller and Makenna Newkirk in the press corps: https://www.pscp.tv/w/1djGXOOLjaEKZ

I was just pleased to hear a reporter actually ask the coach what plus 1 means. I doubt if many of them know. The reporters were a little hard on Newkirk though, she did have 3 shots on goal besides being plus 1. :)

It's amazing how much ground BC has gained this month nationally, in spite of leaving some points behind.

I guess the Eagles were grounded today vs UNH. Looks like it is lights out on the National spot light this week. I would have liked to hear what the Needham Times reporters asked the Coach after the game."Hey Coach could you tell us how Newkirker and Heller played today" "Coach could you explain how you can be considered in the National spotlight when your goalie is not very good" "Hey coach how do the the six or seven players on bench don't play in games. Do you have a JV team that they play on during the week? Lights out.

I suppose. But 10-1-1 is a pretty solid run. The difference is we're gaining ground from, like, 10th, where 10-1-1 is excellent, rather than from like 3rd, where it's bad.

I've had parents complaining about them shortening the bench and I've had parents complaining about them rolling four lines. You can't win.

Also I'd cut the goalie some slack, and I'll leave it at that. Expect a big year from her next year. The bigger issue at present is defensive failures allowing odd-player rushes in the first place.

All in all I'm guessing Clarkson, Princeton, BU, Wisconsin, and the Northeastern of the last few weeks would love to trade places with us this weekend.

I said this month, where it is 5-1-1. The NU win is great. The three wins over teams that didn't even make HEA's postseason shouldn't shift the universe too much. The 1-0-1 with UNH is more "meh" in terms of gaining ground. So yeah, I stand by what I said. It's more about other teams losing to weak teams than any emphatic statement that the Eagles have made.

Not sure why Wisconsin would trade with you, as its ties were against a stronger opponent. Or are you saying Wisconsin would rather play your Huskies than theirs? If you mean your roster, my imagination cannot fathom Mark Johnson coaching a team where players are so indifferent to defending.

With slight modifications, I approve this message...:)

Lol I thought Wisconsin lost the first game but my memory failed me. I'm sure I can be forgive for forgetting what happened Friday when Saturday was so crazy lol.

Also hey at least our loss of the regular season trophy was less painful than Wisconsin's? So there is that!

I think that both Wisconsin and Minnesota were trying to dodge Bye. Both have struggled to post wins versus Bye over the years.

I know you're joking but I can tell you that back when WHEA had byes, the teams with them struggled with the two week break. I'm pretty sure that's why they got rid of them.

I'm not totally joking. Minnesota had a bye two weeks ago, so they really don't need another one. Wisconsin has played seven weeks in a row, so it might have helped the Badgers a bit, but the Gophers are still trying to figure things out. I guess they'll have to do it in practice. Maybe they can add some new PP wrinkles or something instead.

I think that the CHA teams were a little sluggish coming out of the bye week as well when they had them a few years back. The timing is kind of messed up. However, Minnesota won its first title after a three-week break between the WCHA tourney and the Frozen Four, so it is what you make it.

FWIW, Joel Johnson has expressed the opinion that he wanted the bye. I largely see his point. Sometimes the bye helps, sometimes it hurts, and there's really no way to know in advance which it's going to be.
