Boston College Women's Hockey 2018-2019: NO COMMERCIALS, NO MERCY

Re: Boston College Women's Hockey 2018-2019: NO COMMERCIALS, NO MERCY

You guys have more talent than anyone in the country..............

Wisconsin's top 11 forwards, top 6 D and their goalie have all worn either the Team USA or Team Canada jersey, making this a pretty loose statement.

A Midwestern elitist would say that both Wisconsin and Minnesota can easily match or exceed bc's supposed talent...;)

I mean, honestly, "Minnesota and Wisconsin are just better" is a take that doesn't get thrown around enough W/R/T why BC has had such talented teams but no titles. Even in our undefeated season, that final was always going to be a pick 'em regardless of which WCHA team we played. We have a lot of talent but the other teams do too. Sometimes you just get beat.

I realize that Clarkson has a few, but you could make an argument that they pulled it out as an underdog in the non-Olympic year and then lucked out by having their best teams in the Olympic years when Minnesota and Wisconsin were down. Not that it takes anything at all away from it, but BC hasn't had that benefit.

I guess I'm just making excuses but having good players doesn't mean the other team doesn't have good players too. Realistically, even though we've been to the FF seven times, BC's only been a true contender for the national title, what, twice?

--2007 we had 10 losses and were basically an 8 seed that got a lucky draw, we weren't even in the same universe as Wisconsin, still forced 2OT against a Duluth team ranked higher than us.

--2011 7 losses and 6 ties, we played Wisconsin shockingly close and lost in the waning seconds but we were never winning that game

--2012 we had 10 losses and got blitzed by a ridiculous Wisconsin team

--2013 #4 seed, we were pretty good but ran into the best women's college team ever assembled, and still forced OT

--2015 you could definitely call us a contender, we shouldn't have lost that Harvard game. Even so, eventual champion Minnesota was the #1 seed. But yes, this was a year we could have won.

--2016 obviously a contender, yet everyone knew BC vs. Minnesota was a toss up. Still certainly could have won.

--2017, #4 seed, huge underdog against another fking Wisconsin juggernaut, still managed to play up to their level and lost in the waning seconds.

So... one year we were MAYBE the best team but really probably a coin flip,
one year we were a very serious contender but still not the best team,
three years we pretty good but definitely worse than who we lost to, and
two years we were frankly just happy to be there.

And I would say that in four of those seven years (2007, 2011, 2013, 2017) I would argue that we punched well above our weight.

I mean, sports, you know? ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

May be BC should change their uniform colors to Green, Wisconsin and Minnesota Kryptonite ;) .

Green is far more effective versus UM than it is against UW. Clarkson isn't alone in haunting us: Bemidji, Vermont, and North Dakota, back in the days when it could be bothered to exist. The Badgers losses to those teams are more rare.

Let me clarify that, the Wisconsin and Minnesota Kryptonite in the NC$$ Championship game. ;)

Are you saying you haven't heard or seen smokeshow used on the internet before...Seriously?

Or are you saying "smokeshow of the week" is the phrase you haven't seen or heard? Meh...I'm probably just confused...:)

"Smokeshow of the week", the phrase. lol

No one has ever used it on the internet before ever. Ever.

You see glimpses of what bc is capable of doing but it still seems to be that they can't shake the problem of letting teams with supposedly less talent hang with them.

Penalty kill, man.

I'm less annoyed about this game than I was about the last BU game (I mean, obviously).

Few things:

(1) The penalty kill is a dogpile right now. If we fix that we're probably not in very many close games. That's a specific, fixable thing that will pay off once it's better. BU was like 5 for 11 against us and Merrimack today was 2 for 4. Teams are not going to keep scoring on us at a 50% rate on the power play. Looking back I think this is the biggest issue of the "December To Not Remember." Other smaller things just compounded the issue.
(2) The last few games had been a case of us taking pointless shots and making goalies look good. Demers looked AWESOME today. Usually we say "oh we could have had more goals," just based on the shot count, but today we REALLY had a ton of Grade A opportunities that Demers went nuts on. This was the first time I actually felt okay about the goalie looking good, because it wasn't our doing for once.
(3) GREAT response in overtime. Almost won it a few seconds before. Way to dig deep and find a way to get it done.
(4) No Barnes today. I do not expect us to be without her long-term but we have a month off after tomorrow anyway.

So in other words...It kinda sucked that overtime was needed but with the funk that bc has been in, you'll take it. ;)
