Boston College Women's Hockey '10: Thunstromian Dominance

Re: Boston College Women's Hockey '10: Thunstromian Dominance

I'M SO HAPPYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYY!!!!!!!!!!!!11111

And I gotta say... it might just be three games, but they are a whole new team. Kinger changed something drastically and it's working. They are playing a whole different style of hockey.

If we can keep it up, I will be praising Kinger from the rooftops because there has absolutely been a change in our basic style of play for the better.

God, I have waited so long to see us win up there.

Grant:

Not sure who was with you at today's game, but it was great from afar (internet TV) to hear your trumpeting support for the Eagles. No doubt the girls appreciated and responded to your encouragement.

In response to your message about something changing, I have several theories:

1. Young team gaining experience, maturity and confidence. Thus beginning to play up to their individual potential.
2. Offensive lines and defensive lines have finally been settled. Thus, players beginning to become more familiar with their linemates and are playing like a team.
3. Beginning to do the little things better. (a)Less silly penalties, thus not always shorthanded. (b) Breaking out of their own zone much better than earlier in the year (seemed like earlier they were in love with passing the puck behind their own net - now much more north/south). (c) short passing game is much improved and thus creating more flow in the game. (d) defense is holding the blue line much better while in the offensive zone. my guess is they are more confident in themselves and bc goaltending, so they are playing more aggressively on the blue line.
4. Team is becoming stronger as the year goes on. The team's hard work ethic of weight training and cardio plays into this, but I think the bigger part is that there are so many freshman on the team that are now developed into collegiate strength players (same thing happened last year with several of the freshman that found their stride in the second half of the year).
5. Coaches keeping a consistent message and style. The coaches did not panic when things were not going well earlier in the year and have guided the team to this point.

Still very concerned about the power play and power play kill, but perhaps this will be an area of focus over the next week. Not sure who BC will play next week, but after today's game BC has now beaten every team in HE at least once, so anything can happen. Looking forward to tomorrow's game.

Go Eagles.

I'm not sure. It looks like the team is playing a completely different style of play since the last time I've seen them. They are skating with the puck WAYYYYYY, way more instead of making (like you mentioned) all the random, unnecessary passes. It has made for a *dramatic* change in gameplay.

Well, I appreciate that they are ending my senior year with a bang!

Also, BCWH Superfan joe and eetzasqueed were with me.

It may have just been me, but Thunstrom's speed was on a different level than even her usual lightning-fast ways today.

Definitely a bit of miscommunication on the UNH goal. BC had 4-5 players touch the puck in the neutral zone but no one wanted to take possession of it, then they lost it and UNH was able to press an attack and score in short order. Other than that... they really were in sync all afternoon.

It must have been the "jet"-black hair! HAHAHAHAHAHA!!!!

Nothing? Nothing at all? Bueller?

Well, I thought it was funny.

Re: Boston College Women's Hockey '10: Thunstromian Dominance

I don't want to overreact to three games but...

With the parity in this league, if they can play like that, they can beat anyone in the upcoming tournament.

I agree with Grant's observation - they seemed to carry the puck into the offensive zone more often instead of heaving hail-mary passes and hoping something happens. It made a huge difference.

It was SO nice to see BC win at UNH. I know the game "didn't matter" in the standings, but it certainly means a lot for this team's confidence and momentum heading into the playoffs. They absolutely believe in themselves again, which is the first step.

Re: Boston College Women's Hockey '10: Thunstromian Dominance

You guys have a ton of momentum now...Northeastern on the other hand...

Re: Boston College Women's Hockey '10: Thunstromian Dominance

Well that was unpleasant. I'm hoping that game was a result of us having zero to play for and UNH having everything to play for.

Here's the sign Joe and I put up on the glass:
