Re: Boston College Season 2014 - 2015 Thread: PART I
Grant summarized the game well. It took BC way too long to ratchet up their intensity. That and the dumb penalties killed their chance of winning a winnable game against a solid Lowell team.
I'm sure it doesn't help the team to play these home games in a morgue-like atmosphere. (Is there anywhere lese where such a big crowd makes so little noise? There must have been about 6500-7000 people there tonight, and a ton of students, and yet it was a library in there.) But that shouldn't really impact them -- the urgency of the moment should be enough.
Two things making me optimistic at the moment:
1) Harvard is really circling the drain right now and hopefully they'll be mentally checked out for that 4:30 PM game on Monday. This is a must win game for BC. The pairwise difference between winning and losing is stark.
2) This team clearly has a "switch," which we saw turned on against UConn, the Mack, Providence, and at BU of course -- and in the third period and OT tonight in which BC outshot UML 20-6 (!!!). So if they can figure out a way to get the switch on for 60 minutes they can make a little run here.
The fact of the matter is, this team has some good pieces, but little margin for error. They need to bring the battle level for 60 minutes every night and limit their mistakes. They haven't been doing that since the Beanpot opener and it's showed in the results. They still have time to get their game back to where it was in January, but only barely. Monday would be a good time to start.
