Boston College Offseason Thread: Basking in the glow.. again

Re: Boston College Offseason Thread: Basking in the glow.. again

Is there any chance of Muse leaving? His stock probably won't get any better than it is now and this year might be his best chance of getting on track to a pro team...

Plus, there's always the chance of getting unseated by Milner or Billett. It's a good problem to have. I guess it depends on what his priorities are.

Not sure how dependable the source is but I had heard a couple of weeks ago that, depending on how the season ended, he was considering leaving. It's entirely possible he could lose his job to Milner or Billett. I would think his value couldn't get much higher than it is right now. I hope he stays but wouldn't blame him at all for at least looking into it.

Re: Boston College Offseason Thread: Basking in the glow.. again

Awesome season! Glad to say I was there for more than half of the games, and either watched or listened to a few more on TV. It still hasn't really sunk in with me that we are the 2010 National Champions. Hopefully it will soon.

Anyway, does anyone know what our OOC schedule looks like next year? I hear we are playing at DU for a weekend, and that we also have a home game against Wisconsin. I know the Beanpot will take up two games, and we will usually play Harvard in a non-Beanpot game. So that leaves us with one game...I've heard that we are supposed to be l playing in the GLI but I'm wondering what's happening to our usual game against Notre Dame...since the football game is too early to be during hockey season this year for the normal football/hockey weekend with them (October 2nd).

Re: Boston College Offseason Thread: Basking in the glow.. again

I've heard that Notre Dame is off the schedule next year.

I'd be surprised if BC opens with Wisconsin at home, as York is too classy to want to host banner night against the team BC beat in Detroit.

Does he have any say in it? I read that their trip involves a game at UNH...wouldn't this have already been scheduled prior to the NC game?

I know if he had the choice he wouldn't play Wisco on opening night, but does he have a choice?

What could be done is to reverse games that weekend with UNH if necessary so that BC plays Wisconsin in the second game of the weekend and possibly open with someone else the night before.

Re: Boston College Offseason Thread: Basking in the glow.. again

Congratulations on winning it all, again. I was very impressed with the defensive game plan used in the championship. The lopsided score was a result of the Badgers inability to get past the BC defense -- who says small guys can't play defense? As the game wore on, it was obvious Wisco was taking more chances, and that allowed your team speed to expose those holes.

It's sort of like seeing a past love get married to an old friend; you're not completely over her, and you'd like her to come home, but at least she's in good hands  (was that too obscure? think of the trophy as 'the girl', maybe then it'll make more sense . . .)

Congratulations again, Eagles (and fans).

Re: Boston College Offseason Thread: Basking in the glow.. again

Still talk about Muse "losing" his job? Come on guys, I would fully expect a rotation like we saw this year, but we all know and everyone on that team knows who is in net when the playoffs come around. I don't think his stats jump out at any team like a Thiessen, so I'd be surprised if he leaves.

Re: Boston College Offseason Thread: Basking in the glow.. again

Great run Eagles. What were they 13-0-1 and trailed 55 seconds during that entire span? Unreal when you think about it.

Totally off the subject, but seeing as we are discussing players leaving, any chance Coach Cav leaves? I'm not familiar with all of the head coach vacancies and he has been pretty selective up to this point, but that would be a huge loss as well. Ultimately Jerry is the leader, but Cav is unbelievable selling BC behind the scenes with recruits and parents. He has been instrumental with the year over year success and the steady stream of superior talent going through BC. Hate to see him go, not sure if anyone has any inside info. Probably too early, but figured I'd throw it out there.

Re: Boston College Offseason Thread: Basking in the glow.. again

I think Cav is ready for a head coaching opportunity, but would he want that right now? Or is he happy with his role as top assistant (I imagine he's making a good amount). You have to think that there's a loyalty factor in that he'll get the job when York retires.

Looking around Hockey East, the only job that might become available is Providence. What's better? HC at Providence or York's top assistant at BC? I think it's a no brainer.

There will be some loyalty factor, but BC could put more emphasis on alumni. Brownie and Dennehy (I'm sure there are more alums coaching out there) are both alums and will be seriously considered. Unfortunately the coaching profession is highly political.

You are right though, he is in a good position. Just wanted to see if anyone knew anything.

How sweet it is. The Sun is shining and the Eagles are once again National Champions. All is right with the world.

Re: Boston College Offseason Thread: Basking in the glow.. again

I think Cav has been around long enough to be considered enough of a "BC Guy" to be considered as York's successor. He even worked for York back at BG. If he were to leave, I would hope it's for seasoning elsewhere with the eventual goal of coming back to take over BC.

When it comes to succession, I hope BC doesn't put too much emphasis on loyalty and being a "BC Guy". The new bouncyball coach isn't, so that bodes well.

Re: Boston College Offseason Thread: Basking in the glow.. again

I just hope Jerry picks the next guy. He knows who is best to take over.

I think the great thing about having our titles line up the way they did, is that Jerry had this junior class win a title as freshmen, and then fail to repeat as sophomores and come back and get this one as juniors. They get another shot as seniors to get it right this time at trying to repeat - they not only have the experience of not doing so last year and knowing what went wrong but also the added emphasis to go out on top as seniors as well. And I think that's a huge advantage in addition to having what looks like a loaded team next year (then again tons of talent on last year's team that struggled).

Just the 4 seniors leaving is going to be a monumental task to replace them. It's almost impossible to quantify what they did for this team this year.

Cav won't be offered the BC job.

A little bird told me that BG's AD was interviewing guys while at the FF. But not one mention of Cav came up. Person mentioned several others though. :D With Berg getting the job with BG, I wonder where that leaves the other big name assistants.

BTW, hopefully York's 850th win is recognized today at the celebration.
