Boston College Offseason (Continued)

Re: Boston College Offseason (Continued)

28 now: 3 Goalies, 9 D, 16 F to be cut to 22.

I would assume 2 G, 7 D and 13 F or if they go with 3 G take away either a D or F.

Only way Dumoulin does not make it is if 3 D cuts are all BC players.
Samuelson did not dress for the last 2 games and Wey missed 2 earlier so I would think Wey has a slightly better shot but there still is a week of camp in December to make a final push. A strong first half of the college season could help any of the contenders as well.

They will take 2G, 7D and 13F. I agree with you that Dumoulin will be on the team, but do not forget that there will be players at the December camp that were not in Lake Placid this week. There is a lot of hockey to be played between now and December. Four or five guys made the team last year after being passed up for the summer camp, and a few the year before that as well.

Re: Boston College Offseason (Continued)

Based on what I saw out of Dumoulin during the title run last year, I suspect his stock will go up between now and December. I really think he's going to emerge nationally this year.

Re: Boston College Offseason (Continued)

The camp they just had was all about validating the natl program. They will be now out watching games and will be adding to it.
I heard yesterday from one of the guys there who said Dumoulin did fine and is in the running but not a top 6 right now. They said Samuelson and Wey are off the list, outisde a great first half+.
They will now start looking at others to fill specific roles. They have their top O guys like Fowler in place. After him they like Clendenning. Just like John Moore last year, who was bumped in favor of Ramage, Lashoff etc, Dumoulin is not a PP guy on that team and they are not looking for the best 6 but the right 6.

Guys like Tory Krug from Mich State and others will now geta chance.

Re: Boston College Offseason (Continued)

As BC fans, we all know how good Dumoulin was from day one last year. It's hard to imagine him not being one of the "right" six. He could and did play in every game situation. I will just be surprised if he doesn't have a great first half of the season and work his way into that lineup. Obviously I haven't seen these other guys on a regular basis, so it's hard to compare. Never expected Wey or Samuelsson to make it, but in the end, I think Dumoulin will be a top-6 on that team. If not, I'll gladly take him in the Dartmouth Holiday Tournament :)

Re: Boston College Offseason (Continued)

The thing with Dumoulin is that he's a very good all around player but isn't flashy and doesn't stick out as a PP QB, defensive defenseman, etc. You really have to watch him closely to appreciate how ridiculously nasty he is. So as hokydad alluded to, do they have a role for a guy like Dumoulin? Or do they risk building a team with specialists and not pick him? I think it would be absolute buffoonery to not have him on the team but it is what it is and the US has a lot of able guys back there on D this year. Fowler making the NHL or not will have an impact on the position. And I think one other guy that just signed could have an impact on that as he is eligible but obviously would not play if he was up with the big club by Christmas time.

Re: Boston College Offseason (Continued)

Denver will visit BC for one game in 2011-12. DU was willing to play two, but BC told them that the fans won't turn for a two game series. So DU will play BU the following night.

Re: Boston College Offseason (Continued)

They really said that? Wow, that's the first I've ever heard that excuse and don't even know if I buy it (the BC reasoning). How can they say that when BC hasn't even tried it in years???

Edit: on top of that, I don't like that in a way, BC is helping BU out. Granted, BU has no problem scheduling powerhouses anyway, but they certainly don't need any help.

i looked back on the HE site and they have results from 1998-1999 and since that year (inclusive) we have not had a back to back night weekend OOC series at Conte..........can't imagine that DU would not put 6000 in for both nights though i may be naive thinking that. If they didn't (hypothetical) i bet the Sioux would;)

yah they usually link up with NU to complete the series for the big western opponents. i had never heard anything as to a reasoning, but it had to be a conscious decision some where along the lines.

Re: Boston College Offseason (Continued)

Face it, no one cares about hockey at any level anymore except the hardcore fans. There are no casual hockey fans, and even fewer casual college hockey fans.
There's always good crowds when the students are on break. Decent seats for short money = casual fans come to the games.

and Conte becomes the largest day care center in eastern MA but that's a good thing. that T'giving weekend game always draws well, even the Clarkson game had at least a decent crowd of about 5700.........the most packed i've ever seen Conte (my sample size isn't as big as the rest of you) was a couple years ago when Harvard was there. there were virtually no empty seats, even in the lower bowl:eek:

The last one that I can recall was a doubleheader against Minnesota in the Woog years when they had the Westrums (who were particularly dirty that series). Had to have been either my freshman or sophomore years... so either Christmas break 97-98 or 98-99. Farkas scored 4 goals in one of those games.

I think it's worth trying again, especially considering the recent hordes of people that show up to games over the break. Bring in a Michigan or a Minnesota and you'll fill that place up quickly two nights in a row with group sales and some of the discounted tickets they do during break anyway.

I thought that was Wisconsin, not Minny. Gotta look that one up. ;)

Re: Boston College Offseason (Continued)

You had it right on Minny... 1999-2000 season, 10/29 & 10/30.
They had Wisconsin for a single in 2000-2001 on 10/27. I remember that being a pretty physical game also.

Closer. Jan 2nd and 3rd. The BC website archive doesn't even have anything on that second game at 1 pm but the Minnie website does. Apparently there were a combined 127 PIMS in that first game when Farkas potted 4 goals, including a scrum that Minnesota instigated a minute after BC had scored their fourth goal of the 3rd period to pull away that got 5 guys game misconducts. Second day was uneventful and was a 3-3 tie. The only thing I was wrong about was that they only had 1 Westrum at the time. I thought there were two of them.

Good memory! I don't remember all of the details, but I remember the dirty crap and penalties.

Here's an example of my memory...

He's played golf every day since his retirement 25 years ago. One day he arrives home looking downcast.
"That's it," he tells his wife, "I'm giving up golf. My eyesight has got so bad, once I've hit the ball, I can't see where it went."
His wife sympathizes. As they sit down she says, "Why don't you take my brother with you, and give it one more try?"
"That's no good," sighs Arthur. "Your brother is a hundred and three years old. He can't help."
"He may be a hundred and three," says the wife, "but his eyesight is perfect."
So the next day Arthur heads off to the golf course with his brother-in-law.
He tees up, takes an almighty swing and squints down the fairway. He turns to the brother-in-law, "Did you see the ball?"
"Of course I did," says the brother-in-law, "I have perfect eyesight."
"Where did it go?" asks Arthur.
"I don't remember."

OK... maybe that's actually a better example of Murrays' memory. ;) :D

Re: Boston College Offseason (Continued)

I went to the Clarkson @ BC game last year, around Thanksgiving, and the place was banged out. If they could fill it against a team like them, they'd have no problem selling out multiple nights for Minnesota or Miami.

Re: Boston College Offseason (Continued)

Hearing that the two Merrimack games have in fact been flipped, so banner night is now Friday, 10/29.
