Boston College Off-Season Thread: 2012 National Champions

Re: Boston College Off-Season Thread: 2012 National Champions

Who was that guy in the BC student section who slept through the whole game? It even drew attention from Deadspin. My wife was openly wondering if the guy was dead.

My wife mentioned it first to me. We both concluded it might have been Weekend at Bernies -- for real!

Re: Boston College Off-Season Thread: 2012 National Champions

Uh, he's a BC fan...

Even if BU did have a scholarship for Gaudreau, hard to imagine he still doesn't end up at BC.

Just think how it felt after BC lost to UND in 2000 and then how it felt losing to MSU in 2007. Sitting on one title under York...and now to have 5 national titles. Tied with minnesota...would sure be great to tie wisconsin soon ;)

I never thought this would happen this year, much like I didn't expect 2010. Will be losing a lot of talent, but already can't wait for october.

If someone has the time, i'd love to know what milner's numbers were over the 19 game winning streak...

We don't need official awards or recognition to say that milner was/is the best goaltender in hockey east and gaudreau was/is the best freshman.

Nice job by BU fans here, i think it's worth mentioning

Re: Boston College Off-Season Thread: 2012 National Champions

My favorite stat is 32-5 in GF-GA in last 3 FF's Eagles have been in.....and never gave up more than 1. Incredible

How was the bc crowd in tampa?

Re: Boston College Off-Season Thread: 2012 National Champions

That's one of the best college hockey teams I've seen. They make so few mistakes. They don't turn the puck over, they nearly always get it deep in the offensive zone if they don't have an opportunity for a good shot. They do so many of the little things right. It's definitely a well deserved title. Being a CCHA guy, I was rooting for Ferris, but congrats to BC. You've earned t.

I dont have a sample size to compare it to only having been to the last Boston one but i thought excellent though dwarfed by Minnesota even after beating them. I stayed until all the players left the ice and there were a lot of them down with the team. Nice to see the players tossing sticks etc into the crowd led by Kreider

Re: Boston College Off-Season Thread: 2012 National Champions

I think that was to be expected with the Gophs not having been in a FF since I believe 2005.

BTW, glad there were no OT games in the FF...means my DVR recordings are safe ;)

Re: Boston College Off-Season Thread: 2012 National Champions

Just got back from Tampa. Great job by BC's coaches and players. I've been to a lot of Frozen Fours and this was by far the biggest BC fan contingent I can remember. Loud and plentiful. This title wont' be the last one either. That team is loaded. Congrats.

Re: Boston College Off-Season Thread: 2012 National Champions

There's just no stopping your program. Ferris State was game, but BC did what they do this time of year.

York is the best college hockey coach ever. No debate about it.

Re: Boston College Off-Season Thread: 2012 National Champions

I was sitting right by him, and you can actually see me clapping in the background of that deadspin video. He is indeed a BC fan, although not a student. He got very drunk and passed out (as if you couldn't tell). Security was gonna escort him out/get medical help for him after we won the game, but he promptly got up and insisted he was OK. At one point I remember during the celebration he was just screaming non-sense words and noises. We had a lot of fun making fun of him at the game. And that picture is priceless - he really does look like he is dead. I would like to reassure anyone who was worried though - he is indeed alive, and walked away from the game!

well milner actually had a 20 game win streak going back to 12.30.11 (last loss was BU on 12.2.11)

20-0; 1.07 GAA; .960 save %, 5 shutouts

Re: Boston College Off-Season Thread: 2012 National Champions

Unbelievable. Are those shutouts including the blowout games he was pulled early from? I think there were two of those games...

Re: Boston College Off-Season Thread: 2012 National Champions

yes. it includes the 49:14 mins of shutout he got against PC on 2/25. and the 59:10 of shutout he got against vermont on 3/3

the others were all 60+ minutes

it was good. definitely the biggest crowd in a frozen four for the BC contingent. probably werent as loud as the FSU fans - but its hard to say because the entire arena, save the BC fans, were pulling for ferris. it was like a tampa home game when they scored.

always fun to shut up an entire arena like that.

Re: Boston College Off-Season Thread: 2012 National Champions

I assume 2010 was dominated by Wisconsin fans. How was 2008? Nationally, ND is hated (and loved) by more people than BC is. 2001 was great because it was in Albany. One day, BC is going to win a national title in Boston over a non-eastern team ;) Would love to be a part of that scene.

Re: Boston College Off-Season Thread: 2012 National Champions

Superb effort by the Eagles. Ferris St. played a good game, and I was on edge until the Johnny G. fabulous goal. Then I could relax. College hockey is by far the best sport to watch on TV and I wish I was close enough to attend games, but in KY there is only one sport. I used to attend all the hockey games when at the Heights in the early sixties and the TV gives me some games from all over the country now, and I am continually impressed with the quality of play. I just wish that the NHL would not poach these kids before they complete 3-4 years, but I guess money is just too big a temptation. Anyway, kudos to Coach York and the young men, they played superbly after the Maine weekend. I had them beating FS in my brackets Final game and they did it. Kudos.
