Boston College: It's Trophy Time

Re: Boston College: It's Trophy Time

I was in the building for both games. Makes it exciting. Same as last night. :)

Steve ) call the electrician )

I think this on and off thing didn't work last night )

Not that it mattered to BC since they clinched 1st but still they hopefully had no injuries and be ready for 60 minutes of hockey in post season play

Re: Boston College: It's Trophy Time

i get the humor but they've drawn well since being in HE and this year ,600/game more than BU and only 100 or so a game behind BC. Let's see if the fandom down there knows that they aren't supposed to go to the first round or QF's:p

Actually, UConn outdrew BC this year in just Hockey East play by 403.

I think some of the teams fudge those numbers. It sure didn't look like there were 4,800 fans in the XL when UConn played Lowell, and Lowell had a couple of games when the students were on break and yet crowds of 5,000+ were reported. I suspect they may be counting the full student allotment even when the students don't show.

Re: Boston College: It's Trophy Time

that story down below about the goofs says as much. they put in a throw away line how attendance doesn't meet up to what attendance states.

I think it's 'paid attendance', which doesn't necessarily mean they have to show up. But to your point, yes, to quote Elmer 'There's sumtim' skwewy around heeyah'

Re: Boston College: It's Trophy Time

Nice to see BC take care of business on Friday night. For Saturday, I got the sense they were simply going in there with the possibility of taking a point or two with just some effort like but it didn't happen. They were playing like they were just trying to avoid injuries - avoid contact and flipping it to Lowell players and flipping it into void space where Lowell players would get to it first. The fact they played the 4th line as much as they did on Saturday was a good indicator they were just seeing if they could steal a point. They almost did.

How do you not call a tripping penalty after Fitzgerald's spin move led to the break that UML scored a SHG on? I don't know about that. Also, I will say Cangelosi has been phenomenal this year but that facemask penalty goes up there on the all-time list of worst penalties ever taken. Of course, the typical matching penalty we usually see from the HE officials somehow magically didn't happen there. Not that it mattered as it didn't cost BC and clearly BC was outplayed on Saturday.

Thought 21 really had a rough weekend. I think he's had a very surprisingly good year, he can make plays in the neutral zone and offensive zone but his defensive zone play is still meh. With a few mins left on Friday he bolted the D zone without the puck thinking he was going to pick it out on the way around his man inside the blue line rather than battle for it. He didn't get the puck and UML came in with numbers and I almost had a heart attack.

All in all you cannot complain about a team that goes two months without a loss. The week of rest will be great for this team. And they finally got a loss out of their system. You never want to ride into the playoffs on a streak like this. Missing White took a tremendous toll on the lineup. Really, with a single guy missing up front everything is very different. It's pretty crazy how different they are with just one forward missing. A full lineup and playoff intensity will really make BC a brutal team to go up against in the playoffs.

Want to see Demko go into lockdown mode here. His legacy at BC really rests on these two tournaments and how they pan out and how well he performs. He did stand on his head on Saturday.

Hey Ray. . . I should have explained my on/off switch previously, but I mean in games they have a lead. Have seen it many times this season.
Vs Michigan St, up 4-1 in the 3rd, they go into cruise control (turn it off) and give up 3 in under 2:00 and MSU ties the game they have no business being close in. BC then gives it their best fu (turn it back on) and score two, winning 6-4.

At UNH in November, BC holding a 3-1 lead in the third and having taken their foot off the pedal, UNH scores to get within one. Four minutes later, the Eagles turn it back on and score two goals in under a minute, winning 6-3. Similar in the PC home game, BC cruising at 5-2 and give PC a goal, they turn it back on for 2 more for a 7-3 final. There are other games this season where this has happened.

Those are some examples of my definition of the on/off switch.
Vs Notre Dame, we blew the lead and never recovered. But in that one, we didn't turn it off, IMO. We were just gassed by having 3 key guys sitting in the stands watching and we were unable to recover.

FWIW, I prefer no on/off switch as well, but it sure is nice that they have the 'on' switch in the arsenal. Always best to get up on the opponent and keep piling it on and put them away, or at least keep the foot on the pedal and not let them back in the game. But this is still a young team that hopefully has learned, that at this level, any team, regardless of record or conference, is capable of burning you at any given time, even if you are the far superior team talent wise.

It's 'lose and go home' season. Play with the 'off' switch now and they're asking for trouble.

Just heard bc is 1 game away from setting history!!! When "since WW2" is mentioned that's special too since many of your posters here served in that war :p

Why does Mookie hate the elderly? Mookie will be elderly some day himself. Will Mookie be revered as the elderly are in some societies or will Mookie be cast aside as they are in others?

I love the old people. I love Hispanics. I love the highly educated. I love the poorly educated!

Re: Boston College: It's Trophy Time

With a Merrimack win tonight, we get Vermont.
With a UNH win, we get UNH.

I have no preference. Take all comers.
