Boston College: It's Trophy Time

Re: Boston College: It's Trophy Time

I don't think Melrose even watches the game :)

Took him three minutes to figure out who scored the BC goal. "There's the shot and the BC man waiting for the tip-in...it goes behind the net...out front...there's the shot and the BC man is there to tip it in." "Oh.....it's White."

Re: Boston College: It's Trophy Time

Melrose just plain sucks, low point of FF every year is having to listen to him.

Good luck in third BC, you'll need it. Watching this game is like watching the UML/Q regional final two weeks ago, I'm having flashbacks to how Lowell struggled against them and seeing same thing with BC. Q is blocking shots, clogging shooting and passing lanes, not giving BC anything just like Lowell game.

Overall i think BC has been ok but quinnipiac has done a great job blocking shots. And the first goal was a killer. Fitzgerald duffed it, just an unforced error.

Re: Boston College: It's Trophy Time

Did everything but tie it. No complaints from me really, expected a 3-2 game in either direction. Just that first goal given up...that one is frustrating.

Difference was BC came out...I don't like that word but don't know what else to call it..."flat"

Re: Boston College: It's Trophy Time

**** officials ;) Nice job by BC peppering the net at the end, great save by Garteig on McCoshen. Quinnipiac a very disciplined team, will be tough again Saturday if they get the lead.

Especially considering the play was offside and it shouldn't have counted. Putting that aside, the team that won is the team that deserved to win, though in the end BC gave a good accounting of themselves.

I didn't see the replay of the first goal so I can't comment on the off sides. How could they miss that while reviewing the goal?

Congrats to BC on another fine season.

They didn't review it. TV showed a replay a few minutes later that showed it was clearly offside. But as I said, Q outplayed them and deserved to win.

Re: Boston College: It's Trophy Time

Because it was a delayed offside. This is probably not the place, but here I go anyway. I have never understood this rule...going all the way to when they changed it (which is probably, what, 30 years?). Purportedly it is to "speed up" play and eliminate the whistles which disrupt the flow. But the problem as I see it is there is too much "discretion." This is what happened. The puck was shot out to center ice. Two Quinnipiac players were clearly (by at least 10 feet) still in the zone, but when the puck was shot to center it went right to a Q d-man who shot it immediately back in. I guess they would say since Demko "played" the puck that nullifies the offside? I remember in the OLD days, if it was a "delayed" offside and the defending team didn't move the puck IMMEDIATELY out of the zone, the play was blown dead and the offside called, because it was deemed that the defending team was now at a disadvantage. My question is, have they EVER done the same since the new rule has been in effect (blowing it offside if an offensive player DOESN'T touch the puck, even if they are offside)?

And regarding "reviewing" the goal, what are they supposed to do? Go back on EVERY goal until the previous whistle (which could be five minutes) to determine if there were any "violations" before the sequence where the goal was scored? This is why I think this opens up a can of worms. You can't have it both ways. Either it's offside or it isn't. So, to me, once the puck went back in the zone and two players were caught, that's offside. If you don't call it immediately, how can you call it "later?" That's why I have never liked this rule.

Re: Boston College: It's Trophy Time

Good game. The Eagles gave us a handful but we managed to grind out the W. I was impressed with the never quit attitude BC displayed late in the game, especially after going down 3-1.

Re: Boston College: It's Trophy Time

Starman just stated that QU first goal was the correct call. If the dump in, went into the net, it would not have counted but QU clearly cleared the zone and went in and retrieved the puck. Good goal.

I thought the only question was whether everyone actually cleared the zone.

They did. My only point was that the rule gives a tremendous advantage to the attacking team, depending upon how long it takes for them to clear and where the puck is when they do.
