Boston College: It's Trophy Time

Re: Boston College: It's Trophy Time

You talking patpong? Yup

Yes!! Thanks for the correction. Itaewon is in Seoul, I think the shopping district (bought a horrible "winter" coat there on my way to live in Boston for the first time (really first time in cold weather). All my friends had CB jackets over a t-shirt, my cheap Korean made jacket was over three or four layers and I was still cold!)

Darn straight. These Eagles certainly have the talent.
I can live with them playing hard for 60:00 and not getting puck luck. Chit happens. But when they get outworked by an opponent for any amount of time, that is not Boston College hockey. BC doesn't get out worked. BC doesn't get out hustled.
How bad do they want it? They've shown killer instinct during the season. Bring it now. . . ONE game. . . Bring it.
And cut down on the friggin' penalties fer chrissake.

Re: Boston College: It's Trophy Time

I can't believe so many people are picking BC to come out of this bracket. One guy in the USCHO cites the advantage that BC had an extra day of rest by losing on Friday night. LOL. I mean, I know it's BC in Worcester but.... I don't know, the jury is out.

Re: Boston College: It's Trophy Time

well, you gotta pick somebody. not like we're talking about a cinderella #4 seed that just snuck in. we know that playing your best going in to this doesn't necessarily mean much. i have no idea if they can find their game but if they do, there's no reason they can't win this regional. the jury is definitely still out though. with the way they have been playing, they could easily lose tonight. i'm just looking for them to play some good hockey and take it from there.

Re: Boston College: It's Trophy Time

Still very concerned about the penalty situation. Most penalized team in the tourney by a good margin. They have been able to play through that most of the season but usually you pay a price at some point and that is what is so scary about one-and-done tourneys with a team with a penalty problem.

Re: Boston College: It's Trophy Time

agreed. #4 PP against the #4 PK. with the way some of these guys can skate, there's really no need to put yourself in position to take/get called for a penalty. i will enjoy not seeing HE refs though.

Re: Boston College: It's Trophy Time

This weekend really seems to be a crossroads for the program.
To be honest, your "crossroads" are pretty narrow; continue to be a top 5 team every year without the National Title or top 5 team with the National Title. #1stworldcollegehockeyfanproblems
There is NO WAY that BC drops back amongst the unwashed masses (remember, I'm a Merrimack fan so I am qualified to comment on that assemblage).
I do wonder a little bit about the on-ice leadership of this team as they are young. Love Doherty, but can he rally them? McCoshen? Who is this year's Tommy Cross?

Yea we're spoiled. I appreciate the perspective you (and others) can bring to the board with a reminder like this.

Early on Doherty really seemed to have things going great as captain you could just see it on the ice. They rallied early around the loss of that wimp Bracco and seemed to come together nicely. Gaudreau got plugged in to a spot and really performed well. Things are a bit out of control now and it's something worth pointing out. I still think Doherty is a great captain personally. #21 has not been as good lately and that hasn't helped. Injuries. Soft play from some of the bigger forwards. Stupid penalties/constant flow of guys to the box. Passing to the other team.

Need to get rid of that nonsense and get back to what was working before. We're going to find out a lot about this team this weekend. Who is this team's go to guy? Fitzgerald? How do we feel about the situation behind the bench? Leadership on the ice? What will Demko's legacy be? 2 Beanpots and 1 FF? Or something bigger?

It's kind of exciting (unless what we find out is bad). They could play well and lose and I'd be ok with that. Just play hard and smart.

Re: Boston College: It's Trophy Time

I posted this over at the Harvard thread...
"There won't be any Hockey East officials in the building tonight. Don't count on any ticky tack power plays.
BC and Harvard each had 2 penalties against in the Beanpot. They were not HE officials. Big difference."

I really think being away from HE officiating is a plus. BC gets a lot of ticky tack penalties called against them all year. Not usually so in the NCAA's with neutral refs.
Either way, penalties or no penalties, these guys can get it done if they come to play for 60:00.

You may be right. I always used to be thrilled to get away from HE refs. BUT, I've never seen a BC team take this many penalties.

And perhaps a different worry on the same topic, these refs are absolutely schooled and reminded hardcore going into the tournament about the big penalties that get you 5 and a DQ or game misconduct. And we have a few guys that seem to like taking these types of penalties.

Just give me efforts like that. All i ask!

..actually wasn't that much of an effort for the gm.. first half was all BC.. second half.. especially 3rd period was all HU.. only Crimson problem was holding on to the puck too long in key situations.. resulting in the eng. anyway, gluck tomorrow.

Re: Boston College: It's Trophy Time

Not sure what that means but BC played a hell of a lot better than in previous games. Certainly wasn't all harvard.

Huh? This game was never in doubt...

..did not question the gm.. was just commenting on the effort of both teams.. first half of the gm, versus second half. I thought BC started real well.. after HU scored.. they really stepped it up until that ENG late in the 3rd.. is all.

Re: Boston College: It's Trophy Time

That was a nice effort. Gotta bring it as hard or more tonight... Duluth is very good.
Tuch playing along side Fitz and White payed dividends. Nice line.
No 4th line last night. That's a little concerning. Brown and Calnan alternated time with Cango/Wood. Zeke got a few shifts with same. Dudek never saw the ice.

York juggled lines for this (playoff) game? You can do that? ;)
