Boston College Hockey, Part II

Re: Boston College Hockey, Part II

First period just ended and Muse got tossed like a rag doll by LeBlanc at the buzzer. Our guys did nothing. Gawdmit, happened right in front of Sneep. Gotta take that guy out, and take him out hard. I don't give a crap if you get 5 minutes... can't let them abuse your goalie like that.

Short of brawling, they did a good job. Harvard clearly wanted to bother Muse and go hard to the net. After the first time Leblanc did it, Kreider came in and stapled him into the crossbar. Whitney also spilled someone going hard to the net. Both received penalties. Samuelsson was in peoples' faces.

Really impressed with the defense tonight. Add in Cross and Wey to how the D has been playing the past 2 games and keep the offense running wild and this team could be scary. Muse looked solid tonight. All 4 lines put forth great effort. Gotta love it.

Re: Boston College Hockey, Part II

kreider played a very mean game. i guess he was inspired by all the message board coaches calling him soft.

If anyone's traveling out to the UMass game from the Boston area and is willing to give some students a ride shoot me an email gravellese@gmail.com

we have a pretty large group heading out and could use more vehicles.

Yes he did... I think he thrives in games where the refs don't suck (as does BC in general)...

So we're screwed next week. Hansen/Benedetto?

no doubt it will involve scott hansen in some fashion.

what i wouldn't give to play those ********s with the ECAC refs we had tonight. i think thats why i enjoy the ncaa tournament so much. the western teams play a game much more wide open like BC, and as a result, the refs dont put up with the clutch and grab nonsense that HE officials reward as some scoreboard equalizer.

So true.

I think what we saw the last two games is BC breaking down their game into a simple game that allows them to simply out-talent another team.

Their biggest problems were playing stupid and making mistakes. There have been VERY few mistakes (only one I can think of was a Shea turnover in period 1 last night). They have been smart and stayed out of the box. They've been making safe plays.

Add in the fact that we've seen two good, 60 minute efforts and I would hope this team is starting to understand how much talent it has and how far it can go by staying out of the box and simply putting forth a good effort out of the gate rather than waiting until the 3rd period.

Re: Boston College Hockey, Part II

i'd be more worried about bunyon. seems like there's an unnecessary major called in every game he does.

just some perspective after 24 games:

Last year: 11-9-4 (7-7-4)
This year: 14-8-2 (10-6-2)

it hasn't been perfect, but isn't this about what we expected? (everyone besides dave hendrickson)

they're on the upswing and on paper (scary phrase) should be better next year.

they're in a good spot right now. muse is getting that save percentage up and becoming the go-to-guy this team needs him to be, the defense is holding down the fort while guys get healthy, and they are dynamic up front.

8th best PP in the country and the 8th best PK in the country...great combination.

37th in PIMS out of 58 teams...good spot to be at.

a lot of positives so far and a lot of opportunities ahead of them--this friday is one. beat umass and they're the clear #2 in hockey east with time to catch UNH.

Muse has really stepped it up of late. He needs to play both of the next two games. It should no longer be a rotation. Give Milner the {Proviceds and Merrimacks of the world, but all the big games need to go to Muse. It's trophy season.

Re: Boston College Hockey, Part II

Agreed. If Muse isn't ready to drop the hammer now, then we're not going to go to the places we want to go this year anyway. Let's see Muse on Friday and Monday.

J.D., I know the records are close between this year and last year, but imo we've seen FAR more positives from this team thus far. No doubt, they look like they have much more jump in their step than last year's crew.

I'm going to go ahead and say that this has been the most fun I've had watching a BC team in the regular season so far during my four years as a student.

The '07-'08 regular season was a 'trudging along' kind of year before Gerbe carried the team on his undersized back in the postseason. This season has had its ups and downs, with lots of exciting games - and I think the overall top-to-bottom talent level on this team is higher than '08s, just without a Gerbe.

for sure! he was in total control, never looking unsure at any time and made the difficult saves look routine.

Re: Boston College Hockey, Part II

My rant aside (and I really do hate, and no excuse for, our guys letting the opposition tool on our goaltender), but last night was a great game played by the Eagles. All out effort for 60 minutes. They'll be tough to beat bringing it like that from here on out.
John Muse looked relaxed, confident and in control. Good stuff.

Can you imagine if Petrecki was still around? He might be in jail after last night...:p

True.
Or Brennan, Alberts or Orpik. No shenanigans when those guys were on the ice.
Once we get some guys back, I think it's time for Samuelsson to step up and take over the role of 'protector'. Preferably more in the Brennan style than the Petrecki style. Would prefer to see him on the ice for most of his shifts.

I applaud Cam Atkinson for stepping up last night, but that's not his role and should have been handled by the big guy behind him. A d-man sitting out 2:00 with a guy like LeBlanc is a fair trade.

Re: Boston College Hockey, Part II

Not if you already have two walk-on D-men starting due to injuries. I'm sure Brown has told them to cool it.
I had rethought that, and why I said, "Once we get some guys back"... ;)

Last night, I was pizzed. Leblanc got Muse twice on that play at the end of the period, then Harvard continued to hit him throughout the game. I'm of the school that you nip that stuff in the bud as soon as possible. Hats off to the boys if they were following coaches orders, but dang coach, can't leave our post-season ticket hung out to dry.

Wise coaching move to get Muse out of there at the end of the game, shutout be dammed.

OK... I'm done with my rant. We won, played very well and no one was injured.
Go Eagles.

P.S. PROTECT YOUR GOALTENDER! ;)
