Boston College Hockey 2010-2011, Part III - Championship Season Has Begun

Re: Boston College Hockey 2010-2011, Part III - Championship Season Has Begun

I wish it was a Frozen Four loss. At least BC would have won two games and lost to national champion UND...

Anyway, I don't care what the word on campus is. I don't buy it for one second that Cam was checked out. I say this because everyone knew he was leaving anyway. He knew it. Columbus knew it. It wasn't a development.

I also don't buy for one second that Muse was "checked out". Even if he was, he wasn't the reason they lost.

I agree. I am not buying it at all.

Re: Boston College Hockey 2010-2011, Part III - Championship Season Has Begun

D was brutal, end of story.

I can't say this enough, and I know I'm preaching to the choir here as you and I both were all over the fact that there was no way in heck Samuelsson was going to make the WJC team, but my God was he terrible from the Beanpot right up to the final weekend.

Hard to believe he even got an invite to the WJC camp and even harder to believe he was a 2nd round pick. He does get into a few nice streaks but they are fairly short and don't have huge impacts like his bad streaks do.

I know, you're going to say it's because of his last name... Maybe. All I know is he needs to pick it up next year. Bottom 3 defense is the key to next season. End of story IMO. That means Samuelsson, Shea, Alber (to a lesser extent) and Macleod need to get working this summer. If #5 takes another summer vacation to Sweden the mongoloid Pens fans on HF are going to all die of heart attacks (one can hope).

Agreed 100% with all 7 top dmen returning and breaking in a new goalie it has to be the key.

I know you and others have been on the Wey bandwagon but I thought he was brutal as well in the playoffs. He experienced the typical post-WJC bump in his play but the amount of times he coughed the puck up, couldn't hold the line, etc was extremely frustrating. Huge gap between Dumoulin, Cross & everyone else towards the end of the year IMO.

By word on campus, I meant one of the player's girlfriend.

Maybe Cam wasn't trying to lose to make the season end sooner, but he still wasn't focused.

Perhaps this girl simply doesn't like Cam. Not attacking you, I just refuse to accept that as an excuse.

With regards to Muse, I haven't had the balls to watch the DVR yet but how many did people think he should've had? 1? 2? The D was a joke a week ago. Neither of them were the reason we lost.

Thankfully I don't have it on DVR, but IMO he did misplay the 2nd CC goal. Other than that, not sure on the PP goal that made it 5-2. The rest was just horrific defense.

I still have confidence in Alber. Maybe he won't be as good as he was as a freshman, but I think he'll be better than he was this year. I just don't want to see Shea and Samuelsson paired together.

No doubt, he wasn't nearly as good as he was early on. I would expect him to continue his development though. Sure would be nice if MacLeod could get some time.

Re: Boston College Hockey 2010-2011, Part III - Championship Season Has Begun

Word on campus is that the Frozen Four loss was largely because two of our main players were not in the game in a sense.
Cam had just found out before the game about his offer from Columbus, and was completely checked out.
Muse had just heard that he was not getting an offer from Columbus (apparently they thought they would play together?) and so his head was not in the game - my friend said he was devastated.
That's really disappointing about Cam; kinda selfish if he wanted to end the season so he could go pro earlier. As for Muse, that just sucks. Two national championships, and he couldn't even get an amateur tryout contract??

Disagree with Atkinson, Muse possibly. First off, Atkinson I don't think dogged it at all. He had a goal, took 7 shots...and it's not like the offer came out of no where and surprised him.

Muse is tougher to tell, especially because i didn't see the game. The NCAA has some highlights up but it only really covers 4-5 of the goals scored. Based on those highlights my thoughts are this. On most of the goals they were not saves that could go either way, with the exception of 1 which Muse has zero chance on. The others well, wasn't surprised to see the puck go in, BUT they are saves one would expect Muse to make in the playoffs, maybe not all of them, but at least some of them. They would be spectacular saves, but again isn't that what is expected from John Muse in the playoffs. For that reason it would appear that maybe he wasn't 100% focused as in the past. I'm not saying he wasn't focused at all, but even say going into things with a bad mood could be the difference between being superman and an average goaltender for the game. Regardless, no one will ever really know. But I think it's plausible that if in fact Muse was told he wasn't getting a contract offer before the game, that could have played on his mind/attitude and affected the game. Not saying it makes a difference in the overall outcome, but it's a possibility. At least IMO

D was brutal, end of story.

The team D was brutal. All you guys want to pin this on the defense, you are only 2/6th's right. From Muse through to the forwards, the team D was beat to loose pucks and lost more battles than they won. This goes on the forwards too. It takes all 6 to effectively play defense.

Re: Boston College Hockey 2010-2011, Part III - Championship Season Has Begun

Atkinson and Dumolin are both on CHN's 1st team all stars.

Agreed. BC is at their best though when F's are up to blue line looking to break out quick. Not stuck deep and muling it out. CC was to quick to get to the puck and put pressure on BC's D for that to work.

That play where Scwartz caught Cross behind the net and hit his brother for a goal had not happened all year. I can only assume that CC's coaching staff saw something on tape and went after it. If he doesnt catch him and cross gets it up ice, CC is dead...

Re: Boston College Hockey 2010-2011, Part III - Championship Season Has Begun

Yet you pontificate a small novel on the subject..... ;)

I'm in writing mode lately. I will say I am surprised he hasn't been signed. Clearly a top talent, and a high pressure goalie. Seems he would be sought after. But then again, I think the goalie position is the toughest position for a college player to break into. It amazes me at the length of time goalies like Howard, Thomas, Schnieder etc toiled before getting a legit shot. Heck, I still think the Bruins would prefer to not have Thomas in net the way they rotate him and Tookoo. What other team would take the best goalie in hockey and play him half the time? Anyways, I think Muse should have been signed and I think there its up for debate if he was affected during the playoffs. Of course, that debate only stems from the absurd numbers he has put up in the playoffs...

Re: Boston College Hockey 2010-2011, Part III - Championship Season Has Begun

There isn't a lot of point to a goalie rushing to sign. Highly unlikely they are going to get in a game to get a taste of the next level when the season is almost over. Big difference there between getting a goalie into some games and a skater. Also makes sense for a free agent goalie to take time to think through any offers to decide which provides the best opportunity to play and then move up.

The idea that he was off because he was pouting is beyond insulting to him. If a player's girlfriend did talk to you, maybe she just thinks you are an *** and wanted you to prove it in public.

Doesn't happen often, but I completely agree ;)

You aren't a player's girlfriend are you?

Re: Boston College Hockey 2010-2011, Part III - Championship Season Has Begun

Cam Atkinson scored a late third period game winning goal and added a primary assist on the game tying goal to lead the Springfield Falcons to a 3-2 win over Bridgeport ... was the game's #1 star.

Tough OOC next year for a young team:

Ice Breaker (NoDak, Michigan St, Air Force)
Great Lakes Invitational (vs. Michigan then Michigan St/Michigan Tech)
vs. Denver
@ Yale

nice, all those juicy games and we get one of them. i guess we should be thankful after no OOC home games this year..............when i got on to USCHO for a split second i thought last week was just a nightmare as i thought the FF picture on the front page had atkinson in it, the UMD person looked like him and the helmet color was right:o:(

Re: Boston College Hockey 2010-2011, Part III - Championship Season Has Begun

I'm all in favor of a tough OOC schedule. Can't prepare too early for March and April. Maybe if we had seen Colorado College a little earlier in the year.... Oh never mind...

Re: Boston College Hockey 2010-2011, Part III - Championship Season Has Begun

Well, at least we could make the drive to New Haven. Gotta imagine a schedule like that will help in their PWR regardless. Definitely a tough slate.
