Boston College Hockey '13-'14: Tournament Season - One Game At A Time!

Re: Boston College Hockey '13-'14: Tournament Season - One Game At A Time!

Agreed, odd to wonder about the offense for a team that lapped everyone else in goals per game. Just something that has stood out to me as we headed down the stretch. Not surprising the numbers confirmed it, though I didn't expect it to be that dramatic of a difference.

100% agree that the team defense is what needs to solidify if they're to make their run. Between no one clearing a single player out of the crease against ND to gliding back on D to defensive breakkdowns; all that crap needs to stop.

To be honest, I'm not that concerned about Demko despite the shaky series.

Re: Boston College Hockey '13-'14: Tournament Season - One Game At A Time!

I believe in Coach York. He will have to boys back up to snuff.

When we play are best there is no team in the nation that can compare. Let's just hope we get back to playing at our level.

Re: Boston College Hockey '13-'14: Tournament Season - One Game At A Time!

I agree that Demko will settle down quickly. Love Santini's play. Hope Matheson can step up--his play has been scarily spotty. And I gotta love Austin Cangelosi...it's easy to just pay attention to Gaudreau, but that kid has been impressive.

Re: Boston College Hockey '13-'14: Tournament Season - One Game At A Time!

I'm looking for a game like we saw at Conte vs Lowell a few weeks ago. Lowell had very few good chances on Demko and got shutout. BC notched a PPG and 2 EV goals from Gilmour and Cangelosi. McCoshen and Santini were bundling UML players left and right. Play hockey like that and they'll be fine. It starts with defense.
^^^^^^ THIS ^^^^^^

Defense wins championships. Complete team effort in the defensive end, no cruising around waiting for the play to come to them. Make it happen, be aggressive. Be first to the puck and control the play. The offense will take care of itself. This team can do it, this team has done it. Who's faster than us? Who's got more talent than us? It all depends on how bad they want it. Just have to work their arses off every shift. Simple as that.

Sounds like Gaudreau's mom is pushing him to stay for his senior year:

http://www.nytimes.com/2014/03/26/sports/hockey/bu-or-bc-hockey-star-let-brother-pick.html?_r=0

Gaudreau is now wrestling with what to do at the end of this season. He enjoys college life and playing with his brother, but has little left to accomplish at the collegiate level, especially if Boston College wins another national championship.

The Flames are telling Gaudreau to focus on the coming tournaments and then make the decision. Gaudreau’s mother would like to see her son finish college and graduate, and he said his mother usually prevailed in these kinds of things.

“I don’t think he gets it that when you go out there, it’s not going to be all fun anymore,” Jane Gaudreau said. “I don’t think he gets he may be taking the spot of someone who has a wife and three kids.”

She added: “As his mom, I’d like to see him take one more year to get a little bigger, a little stronger, and to enjoy his senior year. He’s never had a homecoming. He’s never had a prom. He missed his high school graduation. He said he’d have a graduation picture for me.

“Have your senior year. You will never get that back.”

If Matthew Gaudreau gets to decide again, he and his brother will return to Boston College. And if Jane Gaudreau was choosing, her sons would be Eagles for another year.

Re: Boston College Hockey '13-'14: Tournament Season - One Game At A Time!

Moms rule. Nothing like browbeating her son with the old "YOU-WILL-BE-SENDING-A-FATHER-OF-THREE-TO-THE-UNEMPLOYMENT-LINE-IF-YOU-LEAVE" trick.

On another matter, I'm sure Denver (and any team that may come up after them) is trying to 'become' Notre Dame...trying to 'do-what-they-did.' The idea of emulating another successful team sounds nice, but you can't just magically morph yourself into one just because it seems like a great recipe.

Hmmmm. Wow.

Poor Calgary fans are going to lose their minds if this happens. Say he gets another 4 pts this year and gets to 168. He'd need a 71 point season as a senior to tie the school record of 239 by Dave Emma. Possible.

If JG returns for his senior year, we should all lobby for a Jane Gaudreau banner in the rafters. :)

That's just cuz I go to so many games. See the same faces all the time at away games, so you get to know folks, at least just to say hi. I even said hi to a BU fan, once. You know me, I'll start up a conversation with a rock. ;) :D
