Re: Boston College Hockey '13-'14: Tournament Season - One Game At A Time!

you don't think a combination of these guys with the big three could produce two solid lines? Would the two lines be able to equal the production from the current big line?

I'm going to say emphatically yes because 5v5 they can't do much worse.

Re: Boston College Hockey '13-'14: Tournament Season - One Game At A Time!

The best scoring line that I can remember after that Maine team was 2000-2001 North Dakota's "Line of Fire" featuring Jeff Panzer (81 points), Bryan Lundbohm (69 points), and Ryan Bayda (59 points). Of course, they didn't win the National Championship, losing to BC in the title game. :)

Toews-Oshie-Duncan
Eaves-Eaves-Voce
Heinz-Emma-McInnis

Never got the title either.

BTW regarding the powerplay, BC is operating at 39% (13-33) since February (11 games). They have also scored on the powerplay in every game in which they had a chance (didn't get one vs NU in beanpot)

Hey mookie, what do you think about this debate about breaking up the top line?

Re: Boston College Hockey '13-'14: Tournament Season - One Game At A Time!

what would mookie know about having a top line? ;)

Hey mookie, what do you think about this debate about breaking up the top line?

Have y'all given up hope for the other lines producing?

Y'all had last change all weekend, right?
Did Jackson go out of his way to match up a defensive shutdown line to stop Hayes-Arnold-JG?
If so couldn't jrrrry have used his last change to get matchups he wanted?

Do you have to keep JG with one or the other, then pawn off the 3rd on a new #2? Or is JG big enough to go with 2 freshman et.al and let Hayes & Arnold get a 3rd?

Not sure it's panic time. Should have an easy matchup rd1- so maybe Mookie lets the boys get back on the horse and re-obtain their mojo

Re: Boston College Hockey '13-'14: Tournament Season - One Game At A Time!

But the problem wasn't scoring
It was stopping the other folks from scoring

Defense was fine... goaltending was fine. Only allowed 7 goals and 4 goals in the 2 losses.
New lines would have produced 8 goals and 5 goals and we wouldn't be having this discussion. :D

Re: Boston College Hockey '13-'14: Tournament Season - One Game At A Time!

Remember when Muse went through a stretch where he was continually getting beat high glove side? Look at the game highlites and ND goals. Do any of the ND goals look familiar? Demko isn't just going down on his knees, he's leaning forward and lowering his upper body to the ice. I may be crazy, but seems to me there's an awful lot of net to look at upstairs, and ND found it.

He has a weird style. Most butterfly goalies jump right back up when the puck is cleared away after a save. Demko stays on his knees. Not a whole lot of mobility available there when the opponent is passing the puck around, such as on the 3rd ND goal. Tweak, tweak?

Re: Boston College Hockey '13-'14: Tournament Season - One Game At A Time!

strange how 95% of things I get blasted for become logical discussion down the road

Nostradamus?

1980-81 MN Gophers line of Neal Broten (71 pts), Butsey Erickson (86 pts) and Aaron Broten (106 points) did alright. Lost in the National Championship to Wisconsin, though. They played on the same line in High School too. Not bad for one High school to produce three players of that caliber (yet didn't win the state tourney.) Neal won the first Hobey that year (a year after playing in the Miracle on Ice), but Aaron probably deserved it as much. Don't remember the Maine line much, but this Gopher line was better than the line you list of the DOT line in IMO.

well.... mookiedamus is gonna guess that y'all won't be in too many ylae rematches that finish 8-6!!

2 for 2 for Mr. Bates

If you look at it, it's pretty effing impressive how terrible at his job GDF was outside of getting us into the ACC

I think you need some time to sit back and view his legacy... but basically in a few years when we look back we'll probably have a hard time fathoming the massive amounts of damage that man did to our athletic department. Thank God for Jerry York and the hockey program. The one program he never touched thrived and he had no hand in the success there.

Re: Boston College Hockey '13-'14: Tournament Season - One Game At A Time!

Steve Gone-ahue. I'm actually very surprised with this news.

I didn't expect this talking to people at BC recently, as I didn't think Leahy would allow the AD to do this and just eat another year of his contract.

GDF's last legacy is gone and I hope Bates finds a good replacement with no recruits coming next year. The attendance at the last home game was just embarrassing for this program and I don't think the band was even there on senior night. I agree the damage he did to the programs here put a setback on BC that is clearly obvious. I hope they take down the plaque he put up for himself.

Pretty impressive that Bates has been here for less than 18 months and both of GDF's major hires are gone.
