Re: Boston College Hockey, '12-'13, Volume II: #JohnnyHockey or #GaudreaubeyBaker?

Can they do that? It's a nonconference game.

Good question. At first I thought of course, but I don't know for sure. I'm assuming they can though.

If Roy had scored on the 6x5 breakway, would the goal have stood? What's the rule on that? Could they have penalized NU after the whistle?

I forget which situation it was where NU had 6 on the ice but I think it was after the Roy breakaway...all the refs got together and nothing came of it. I think they could have reached a conclusion right after he scored that they had six on the ice, but I don't think it's something they could have used replay for like the NFL does. In the NFL, you can challenge a play and have it reviewed if you think the other team had too many on the field.

Meanwhile, while we were all paying attention to the proceedings at the Garden... suddenly BC is facing the #2 and #3 teams in Hockey East this weekend.

First place up for grabs Friday night...expecting a tough game from MC.

Tim B is the leader in calling ticky tack crap, completely inconsequential stuff in regard to what's happening in the game. Wish they kept stats on how many penalties each ref calls per game. Although I'd guess if you look at all the games he refs, the PIMs in general are higher than other games.

Re: Boston College Hockey, '12-'13, Volume II: #JohnnyHockey or #GaudreaubeyBaker?

I'm pretty sure HE can tack on punishment, why wouldn't they? They're all still HE teams. Was that Alexxxxxx's 3 game misconduct? I thought that carried an auto 1 game suspension (only knew about that this year cause Matheson has 2).

No way they'd review the too many men, it would completely open up a can of worms. Have the game on DVR didn't notice it until twitter absolutely blew up afterwards, will look for it.

That's what annoys me about Bennedetto, more than any other ref in HE it always has to be about him. King of the ticky tack $h!t (and usually wrong, just look at the first 30 min of last night).

Re: Correlation of Ref to PIMs I'm sure someone had a lot of time on their hands they can calculate it as the boxscores have who reffed the games (obviously not who called each penalty but I'm sure you'd find a trend).

Brickley was flipping out about how egregious it was and he was appalled the refs didn't catch it. Especially after they conferenced. Which, jd, I'm pretty sure was after the first instance - not the breakaway

I almost wished it went in just to see what happened. I don't think it's reviewable. Didn't a college bouncy ball team hit a game winning three with too many guys on the court within the last 3 years (western Kentucky or something?)

Anyway, I think too many men is usually the responsibility of the linesmen not the head refs

Edit: looks like it was west ky that lost on a layup by Louisiana Lafayette last January who had 6 guys out there. Close enough

Oh man you haven't seen it yet Claver? Let me know when you do. It's incredible.

And it happened TWICE!

Support BC in quest for two more hockey Beanpots tonight - either go to Matthews for the Women's D1 championship or to not Bright for the Men's Club championship game. Women's game is definitely at 8; guessing men's is too, but not 100% sure. Both are playing Northeastern. (Games have the same pairing rotation as the Men's D1 and this year the first round games had the same results. Second round should as well.)

What, no women's club pot?

The real question would have been, if they would have given all 6 skaters a +1 :D

I don't think so. Don't think BC has a women's club team though I could easily be wrong. Northeastern and Harvard definitely do have women's club teams in addition to men's.

Congrats to the husky ladies

I hadn't seen Benedetto yet this year so I thought maybe they had wisely parted ways with him. If he refs the MC/BC tilt friday, I'm going to be rip.

Him and Gravelese were awful in the pot final. I doubt the new head of officials give us the 2 refs who haven't been good in the last 5 years
