Re: Boston College Hockey, '12-'13, Volume II: #JohnnyHockey or #GaudreaubeyBaker?
For those non-twits:
Chris Brann @Nolesgolfer: What do you think is the key for this team to make another national championship run? #AskCoachYork
I think that it starts from the goal line extended out to your top offensive players. Parker has been our main stay on defense down the line with the emergence of our young defensemen, which has been important for us. Pat Wey has been a rock for us on defense, who has been a real catalyst from there, paired with Isaac as most improved. Doherty, Matheson, and Jeke have emerged as our steady defense with Pat and Isaac. I think we have some really outstanding offensive players, but I think to win championships, from the blueline back is really important.
@JaneRStanton: What was your favorite thing about BC when you were a student here? #AskCoachYork
I think just the spirit on campus. The Eagle Spirit, just the feeling among us us and what an amazing experience it is to be here at BC. Whether you were a hockey player, in the dramatic club, or working for @bcheights, it was just being here at Boston College.
@BCHysteria
Of your five national titles, does any of them hold special meaning to you? @BCHockeyNews #AskCoachYork
I think the next one is the one that we are trying to accomplish... the pursuit of the next one. That would be my favorite, the next one.
@sirstruck: @BCHockeyNews We've all read about your affinity for DD in the morning, but what's your fave Watertown restaurant for dinner? #AskCoachYork
Clearly it's Porcini's! It's within a mile of my house, and it reminds me of walking to a Cheers type atmosphere. The service and the food is outstanding.
@JamisonCoyle: What's the toughest rink to play in on the road in @hockey_east and why? #AskCoachYork
I think probably Alfond Arena at the University of Maine. The students are right on top of you, and it's a great atmosphere. It brings out our best because of the crowd the rivalry we have. It's one of the hardest places to play, but one of the best places to play
@32nicolevicius: #AskCoachYork How do you keep your players focused and conditioned for such a long season?
We embrace the daily improvement and the daily process that you have to go through. Sometimes it's a grind, but our whole atmosphere at the rink each day is to embrace it, work through it, and get better. We try to use a microscope and make everything that we have go into this day.
@ACal6888: @BCHockeyNews What do you write in your notebook? #AskCoachYork
I keep combinations of all of our lines, penalty kills, power-play units, 4-on-4 combinations And then anything that happens during the course of the game that I can refer to. I keep that notebook specifically for each team, so there are some tendencies that I can look at after every game.
@MikeBillings16: #AskCoachYork what benefits does college hockey offer to a player's development over the Canadian Junior leagues?
I think both offer many advantages, and I am very aware of that. Personally, I prefer the college route for a number of factors. One of which is that your NHL career is not going to last with affinity. With a college degree you can secure and thrive in a position later in life. I have a preference and am biased when I say that the college route is the way to go if you can handle the academics.
@SteveandNate: @BCHockeyNews How does BC's Catholic faith shape recruiting and the character of the team? #askcoachyork
I think on-campus, in the classrooms, in the dorms, it encourages you to become a better person. That isn't directed just to the Catholics on campus, because whatever religion you embrace, the idea is just to be a better person. Each day, I think it is reflected in the Eagle Spirit here. It encompasses every part of daily life.
@findingniemeies: #AskCoachYork what would you like to say to all the SuperFans as @BCHockeyNews heads into trophy season?
How incredibly proud we are that our following has grown exponentially every year since I have been here. It was mind-boggling how many students were in attendance at the #Beanpot. More so now than ever, we are the biggest student ticket crowd at the #Beanpot.Coming from our ticket office, we broke every record for #Beanpot ticket sales. When you have that many students coming out, it inspires us, from the coaching staff to the backup goaltender we are inspired.
@Salzano14: How does BC manage to keep top players for at least 3 years? Do players come in knowing that's the expectation? #AskCoachYork @BCSportsNews
Your expectation is 4 years, and with that, a degree and a ring. If a player elects to leave school early, the only thing you can do to ensure that you get your degree is to come for 3 or four years.
@Trish_Milla: @BCSportsNews What advice do you have for coaches aiming to establish a culture of good character on a competitive team?
If the leaders of your locker room have solid character, then they can lead the way and then younger players can follow the older players.I think it is very important to bring in young men that have good character. It is awfully hard to switch character around.Captains who have great character when they came to BC set the norm here.We take great pride in that. It's awfully hard if they aren't raised in the right environment before they come to BC.
