Re: Boston College Eagles 2013-2014 season thread -Speed returns to The Heights

Good ending until holiday tournament after last weekend's blip with Holy Cross. I think the lines will stabilize and hopefully BC's team defense plays like this more consistently than what we have seen in games like Holy Cross, Maine, Minnesota, etc. I'm impressed with the freshmen sharing the load so far but still some kinks to work out obviously. Looking for consistent, winning hockey from this team as we go into the 2nd half of hockey and less mistakes that are costly. But I see these things as a learning experience for this team that makes them gel and stronger by March.

I'm thinking of driving to the tournament at the end of the month. Going to check the ticket office for the price of the 2-day set of tickets.

recalling my pens from mookie's youth.. any chance we can trade you our #1 pick next year for 4 or 5 guys y'all will cut anyway, along with a 3rd liner or two? we need some hockey players!

I feel your pain but in the 70s, 80s, and 90s BU basically owned us. But you guys did get Jack Eichel recently ) You have no idea how much **** how I or any BC fan received when we didn't win a Beanpot or anything for that matter. Yeah we did have some good players but not enough depth like BU did. I guess things come in cycles but you guys still ahead by a lot in Beanpot wins.

Pretty impressive a team with the speed BC has went all weekend without a powerplay

is Kevin Hayes currently playing better than his brother ever did at BC? Maybe an outlandish statement given Jimmy's great career ,but maybe not

The older Hayes topped out with a 21-12-33 scoring line his last (Junior) year as an Eagle, so strictly from a point standpoint, it looks like Kevin will easily surpass that total this year. Jimmy was a good goal scorer, but Kevin seems to be a better all around player. You have to wonder if things would have ended up differently for the Eagles last year if he hadn't been hurt....

KH had a great 1st half but let's see what happens in the 2nd half. This was expected of him from the start, but this year his goal production is finally happening. Has he even scored 10 goals in a season let alone a half season ? I even see some feistiness in his play and penalties to add an edge to his play.

I've been impressed. Very impressed. And even though it's only the first half, he's been consistent over that half. I'm going to be optimistic and believe that his season is a Chris Collins like Senior breakout.

The season is barely a third over, so even if Hayes' PPG going forward are only 50% of what they were over the first third of the season, he'll still finish with over 40 points. My guess is that he finishes with 50+ points.

Re: Boston College Eagles 2013-2014 season thread -Speed returns to The Heights

Some interesting stats as we head to the Christmas break (defensive edition!):

McCoshen is at +18, no defenseman was that high last year. He might make a run at Dumoulin's absurd +40. Despite the results this weekend, he was only +1
Last year, defensemen not named Matheson had 6 goals, so far already 8
BC has 10% more shots per game (33 vs 30) despite 20% less time on the powerplay per game but allowing slightly less shots per game despite more time on the PK

Re: Boston College Eagles 2013-2014 season thread -Speed returns to The Heights

we thought the refs were bad this weekend in that BC had zero PP chances, but the fact Matheson stayed out of the box is more telling ;)

Re: Boston College Eagles 2013-2014 season thread -Speed returns to The Heights

^^^ true that...............so we have Bowling Green and then Robert Morris or Penn St in this "Classic" and they are using that term loosely. Weird that this is our holiday tournament this year . Are we gonna pay attention to both? that seems to be one of the issues with this team . Then we have the Almighty "Frozen Fenway" stuff. I'm looking forward to watching a really boring ND hockey game...................on TV from home. After ND there are more big ones. PC at home then at Brown then BU And Maine both at Conte. That is a huge five game stretch

Re: Boston College Eagles 2013-2014 season thread -Speed returns to The Heights

If there is one program right now that would absolutely be unacceptable losing to it would be Pedd State. BC can't score enough goals on that school.

Re: Boston College Eagles 2013-2014 season thread -Speed returns to The Heights

Any TV for the Christmas tournament?

I don't know if it was here or EA but someone mentioned the idea of RS'ing Jeke. It would make snese if the health of the D continues *knock on wood*, no defensemen coming in next season (we'll see on Hanifin), and with MacLeod graduating and Matheson a flight risk.

looks like no TV. HE site is usually pretty good at having the stations on the schedule if a game is televised. I bet we cant even buy the feed for this "classic"
