Boston College 2024-25 TV * JG * MG

Leonard named the captain of the World Junior team and Perreault is one of 4 assistant captains. First time since Marty Reasoner in 1997 that a BC player has been named captain. Reasoner was the player who set BC hockey on to their fabulous run of Frozen 4's.

Reasoner was the beginning of a wave of talent, recruited him away from the Red Baron, three years later they were playing Mich for the championship in the Garden no less. Never forget that game, it was a heart breaker, O'Leary hits the cross bar and BC goes down on a goal that sneaks in between the pipe and Clemmie's skate.

Well, the boys are coming back from the WJC with gold again. Stiga with the OT game winner and USA player of the game award for the gold medal game. Leonard named top forward and MVP. All of the BC players played well, but Leonard was an absolute beast the entire tournament.

Ryan Leonard is one of my favorite non Maine players. Can't root against him. What an absolute stud enjoy him while he's at BC

Lennie is a stud and the top line is a truck. All four goals scored by players who on Comm Ave., amazing. The upcoming BU/BC games are going to be barn burners.

What a game. It is a bit funny that Leonard and Hagens both had glorious chances in OT (Leonard also had a tap in from Zeev with about 6 mins left in regulation that he missed) and Stiga jumps off the bench and wins it. Kind of reminded me of Ben Eaves scoring vs. Michigan in 2004.

What a pass from Zeev, absolutely razor thin window to drop a puck in there and he does it with sauce and landed it right on the tape. Filthy.

Some interesting numbers. BC has played 6 current top 10 PWR teams in a combined 10 games (6 on the road) with an 8-1-1 record in those games. MSU, PC, Maine, WMU, UML, SCSU. Those 6 teams have a combined 24 losses; BC is responsible for 8 of them (33% of their losses).

Even if you include the three top 10 teams they have not played (Minnesota, Denver, OSU), BC is responsible for 22% of all losses in the PWR top 10 (excluding their own 3 losses). Pretty crazy.

Maybe the best single play of the entire tournament by anyone. That was Gretzky-like in its execution. That kid is special. I still can't understand how he fell in the draft to where he was taken.

Perhaps BC will not be overloading the World Juniors next year as they will be playing in a Holiday Tournament December 28 and 29 next season. With Wisconsin hosting look for the Badgers to take on Lake Superior and for heavyweights BC and Western Michigan to battle it out on the opening night. Those games are not yet set but it looks obvious to me.

The very early projection that I saw for next year's team only included Teddy Stiga
Still dangerous to schedule during tournament as BU loss to Yale showed hurts in pairwise

Stiga could be joined by Skahan and William Moore on next years team

Is Skahan ready to go for the rest of the season? Powell and Gustafsson as well? Hopefully they are all back in the lineup. Hagens stepped in nicely and Joyce stepped into Hagens spot nicely as well. Then Stiga taking on the role at D was impressive too. The depth at D is great whenever an injury or illness occurs.

Powell was skating in a regular jersey in practice the other day so I assume he's perfectly fine. Not sure on Gustafsson and Skahan, but you would like to think even semi-serious injuries would be healed up after the 1-month hiatus for the program (Gustafsson last played Dec 4th so over a month for him and Skahan last played Nov 15th). At this point, with their PWR situation, staying healthy to hunt the trophies is going to be the name of the game.

A bit of a post WJC hangover? Merrimack has now won 4 in a row. I'll be surprised (pleasantly) if they can make it 5 tomorrow night. Can't see BC dropping 2 in a row to the Warriors.

Powell did not seem to be as fast as usual, twice he was limping out there, but the absence of Fortescue probably was the key to the poor defensive play. I thought BC should have contested the 5th goal for an offsides but watching the bench they seemed to be engaging the referee but did not follow through.

Laid an egg, defensive zone coverage was poor. Two PP goals for Mack. Not many positives for BC. Fortescue would have helped but they need to score more than 2 goals.

Time for some line changes. How about Gasseau with Leonard and Perreault. Gasseau has the highest shot percentage on the team for those over 25 shots at 22.2%. Imagine Perreault feeding him for an open shot. Then your second line adds flair with Hagens joining Jellvik and Stiga.

Good bounceback performance after Friday's night's disappointment. If they follow through with another good performance Tuesday against Tuesday then I think Friday will start to look like a blip on the radar.

They put 41 on shots on goal and must have had another 20 shots miss or were blocked. Much better coverage in the Dzone with only a few high end chances. The PP goal by Pierre was an absolute snipe. The 5 minutes major in the third was a real worry particularly after they scored in the first minute or two. The penalty was deserved but inadvertent. Need all the defensemen back for the stretch of games coming up. Shout out to Herschuk, under the radar player, not flashy but he is steady and stable presence back there. A lot of very significant games coming up, the next month will give us a good read on what to expect in the post season.
