Boston College 2011-2012 season outlook

Re: Boston College 2011-2012 season outlook

Which games?

I can't remember at this time; I don't have access to the spreadsheet from my current posting location. I'd have to get back to you.

BTW, I would call the BC schedule effectively complete, although only one game I think is unknown. I have 31 non-exempt games known. Merrimack to complete the home/home in February would make 32. Massachusetts Lowell on October 29th for that home/home would make 33. The only question is which beanpot weekend you'd play UVM (or if it's completely another weekend and you get both of those weekends off).

I asked the same quesiton in the BU thread as well just out of curiosity...

For those Eagle fans who are New England born and bred... how do you rank last night as compared to the recent BC NCAA championships?

For me, 2001 BC title ranks #1. From there, it's really hard to say because in a vacuum, I'd take a BC title over the Bruins. That being said, I'll still put the Bruins winning this Cup #2.

Re: Boston College 2011-2012 season outlook

I love the B's but BC 2001 is #1, BC 2008 is #2 and BC 2010 is #3, nothing else is close;):p

Right there with 2001. The first one after a long wait is always the best.

I'd have to say the Bruins' win was better for me.

Re: Boston College 2011-2012 season outlook

Just got a look at UNH's schedule the last day or so and for some reason, there's no home and home for UNH/BC next year. In fact, UNH doesn't have a home and home with any of the Boston schools, and has only three all season (UML, PC, MC). Does that seem messed up to anyone here? That was one of the great things about our league that separated us from the other leagues. Pretty stupid as far as I'm concerned...

GO BRUINS!

Re: Boston College 2011-2012 season outlook

The 2001 NC was the pinnacle for me. Even 2004 Red Sox didn't touch it.

With all the Bruins hoopla, there is some opportunity for college programs to gain some notoriety next year. I hope BC can be successful and hopefully pull in some new fans.

Just took a peek back at the previous seasons, and its been since they decided to do two games at UMass or home vs. UMass in the same weekend that the number of home and homes have dwindled... It was 5 last year, 4 the year before (speaking only of UNH), and prior to that it was 7 for all of them that I saw (the max)
But the fact that we don't play you guys or BU home and home next year is a joke. I don't know if its the league joke, or UNH's joke, but its a joke.

re: where the Bruins win ranks

Over the course of the entire twelve months of the year, there's no team in any sport I follow more closely than BC hockey. But there's something embedded deep inside of me with the Bruins, instilled from my father and my grandfather and my uncles, that can never be replaced, and that's why the Bruins winning the Cup after being awful for most of my life is my favorite sports memory of all time.

The money and effort that went into my BC degree, the time I spent at the school, and travels across the country for 5 years to see the team still can't add up to that deep-rooted, tribal, family connection with the hometown team - especially since they're my favorite of all the pro teams in town. That's just me, though.

I'd say it's a different, special kind of excitement with BC... it's a different kind of emotion stirred, being there in Detroit with close friends to see my school win a title. Seeing BC win it all in '08 and '10 felt more personal; seeing the B's win it all (and the Sox in '04) feels more Cosmic and Big and Spectacular.

In 2001 I was 13 and the only connection I had to BC was that they had Boston on the jerseys, and I was duly excited to see them win it all as my father and I had attended many BC games during my childhood. I'd imagine it would rank higher for me if I were an alum at that point, though. I feel a retroactive sense of jubilation and relief about 2001 now that I could not have understood at the time.

Thats a pretty good way to put it, and mirrors how I felt about the BU NCAA's in 95 and 09.... as compared to the Sox and the Bruins... personal vs big.

Anyone else surprised Destry Straight was not drafted? I remember him receiving an "A" rating by Central Scouting back in October or November. Those tend to go to 1st round picks.

Re: Boston College 2011-2012 season outlook

nope, big difference between what nhl teams want vs a good jr and college player.

Boston22's thought was how did he go from a projected 1st round pick to no pick at all? I was wondering the same thing myself.I believe the answer is that these things can fluctuate wildly over the course of the year (how did Ambroz slide to the 5th round?). As you implied, Straight should still be a good college player anyway.

Ambrose posted on the UNH thread that the word is, the Jan 7th UNH@BC game will actually be the weekend of Jan 28th so there WILL be a home and home series. They're just working out the details for a UNH/Maine Fenway game the weekend of Jan 7th... I like this two-fold... and hopefully it pans out.

I'm not losing any sleep. The NHL geniuses didn't draft John Muse either.
