Re: Boston College 2010-2011 In-Season Thread: Long Live The "Eagle" Empire!

The fact that the ACC is absolutely a national power in soccer is irrelevant to you? Congratulations to Brown? Teams outside the big conferences can have good years.

Are you serious with this crap?

Yes, it is irelevant. So by that reasoning, Merrimack Hockey should be higher ranked because they play in a national power like Hockey East instead of the ECAC? You guys should stick to hockey and stop pretending to be a football "power". Oh wait, BC is in the ACC, so by osmosis, they are a national power, too. Got it.

ps- It's too bad a school like Notre Dame can never excel at football due to the fact that they aren't in a "powerhouse conference".

1) Merrimack sucks. But yes, in general, playing a tougher schedule indeed will give you a higher ranking given the same records.

2) No one is pretending that BC is a "power" in football. In fact, the whole reason this is being discussed is that BC appears to suck to holy hell this year.

3) The ACC sucks in football. However, the discussion was about how the move to the ACC was good for BC. Considering the Big East sucks in football even worse, I would say that the move to the ACC was good for BC in football even aside of the side benefits of non-revenue sports benefits and monetary benefits.

4) The Notre Dame example is different and you know it. It's all about recruiting in college sports, and Notre Dame's tradition does plenty for that. Recruiting is why BC will be better over the years in soccer than Brown will be. It's ALL about recruiting. Big time recruits want to play in the ACC. The want to play the big name schools.

Do you seriously think that, personal factors aside, big name players are going to consider a school in the ECAC and a school in the ACC equally? 4 out of the last 5 national champions played for the ACC. Yeah, conference affiliation TOTALLY doesn't matter!

Eagles beat Toronto 8-0. A 6 goal second period.

Toronto hasn't been a good team for over 25 years, although they've improved a bit in the last couple of seasons. They play in the softest division of the weakest conference in the CIS. Unfortunately, I would be really surprised if BC doesn't score double digits on them.

Which is weird because the roster sheet said they've had the same coach for 16 years?

These exhibitions always scare me because they tend to get out of hand, leading to some chippy play, but it doesn't seem to scare the coaches.

Are those new sweaters for BC? I don't remember the Under Armor insignia.

Yes, UA has the school's apparel deal now. I was hoping they'd change the uniform a bit, but it is exactly the same less the new logo on the front.

ps- the offensive depth on this team is disgusting. 8 goals by 8 different goal scorers last night. Yikes.

Whoa, you and Onion guy want to have a ******ing contest about soccer, ACC whatever, be my guest, but you're kinda being a tool dumping on Merrimack.
And yes, I agree, playing a tougher schedule indeed will give you a higher ranking (the Boise State/TCU dilema)

One year of finishing 6th in Hockey East and getting knocked out in the first round of the playoffs means we're not allowed to say Merrimack sucks anymore?

Oh, but everyone thinks they're going to be awesome this year. Just like Lowell last year.

I'll be curious what kind of crowd you get considering the Patriots are playing Indianapolis that afternoon. I can't wait to see how Moss does vs. that Indy secondary, oh wait...fail.

Pats game is at 4 and BC usually draws well during the day (tons of kids).

With the reports coming out about Moss now, it's hard to defend him.
