Bohemian Rap City: Movies Thread

I saw Us tonight. Holy Exposition Dump, Batman. The first 90-100 minutes was great. The ending was absolute garbage. People are over the moon with how awesome it is but I didn't like it at all. I'd give the first two acts an 8.5 and the ending a 3. Overall I'd say a 6.

I didn’t post much here on it last week, but I agree. I think get out was much better.

I think if you stop watching before they get to the end and they explain everything it would be so much better. Just imagine them driving to the beach and then the credits roll. Would leave everything mysterious and creepy. As we've learned from horror/thrillers through the years, whatever we come up with for the Big Bad or inevitable countless theories about an ambiguous ending are almost always better than what we are shown. Imagine if at the end of Inception there had been a tacked on ending with DiCaprio and Caine explaining what everything meant as the top keeps spinning. No. Just let the audience wonder, discuss and theorize.

OK, in all seriousness, when should we walk out? I am perfectly willing to do this. Is there an Exact Moment where the end ought to have been? With no spoilers beyond that point, please.

When they're driving and reach the beach. I don't remember what happened just before, but when they arrive at the beach they see the kid wearing red...go ahead and leave.

Thanks. Will report back whether that makes it a good movie.

Re: Bohemian Rap City: Movies Thread

I didn’t think we had that much difference in movie tastes. Outside of movies pre-90s.

If somebody says a movie is "pseudo-intellectual" I am going to give it a shot. I'd MUCH rather somebody swing for the fences and miss than just take pitch the way the stench of Spielbergs does.

I loved Get Out.

I saw Get Out before I had heard of it, before I knew who directed it, or really knew that it was getting amazing reviews.

I didn’t hate it, I just didn’t think it was... anything. There was no great allegory or deep meaning. It was just a high profile made-for-SyFy movie.

I'm not going to pretend "Get Out" was high art or anything, but it was just...fun. It was paced very well, there was the perfect mix of awkward humor and weirdness. I really can't put my finger on specific things about it that made it great, but it just was.

Re: Bohemian Rap City: Movies Thread

Another terrible movie. 🤣

It IS a terrible movie. However, that is what makes it great. It's awesomely horrible. A complete train wreck of cliches, bad acting, and bad storyline. But BECAUSE it tries to be good...we must appreciate how bad it turned out. ;)

See also: Superman III and Predator.
